The BMW M2 isn’t scheduled to hit dealerships until 2016, but as early as now, the hype surrounding BMW’s entry-level buzzsaw is continuing to grow. Not that the car doesn’t deserve it because the M2->ke3901 appears to have all the tools in place to be better than its predecessor -- the 1 Series M Coupe -- ever was and is far more compelling than the M235i. So, is the M2 really worth the hype? XCar’s Alex Goy took time out of his presumably busy schedule of testing out cars by giving us a nice walk-around of the M2.

As the fastest version of the 2 Series->ke2065 that money can buy, the M2 certainly has the look of an all-conquering M sports car.->ke506 The big arches gives it a muscular stance and the sharp edges are placed where they’re supposed to be. In other words, the M2 has that unmistakable M->ke546 aura to it, something the 1 Series M Coupe never quite had.

Just as important as its looks, is its beefed up 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that pumps out a healthy 365 horsepower and 343 pound-feet of torque. That’s more than what the 1 Series M and the M235i had, which makes sense, since successors, by definition, generally are better versions of the cars they’re succeeding. The M2’s power output should come in handy, especially for drivers who decide to try out the car’s burnout mode. Yes, the M2 has a burnout mode.

And just in case there’s still some lingering doubts on the authenticity of the M2’s “M-ness”, Goy ended the walk-around by bringing the six-banger engine to life. Just listen to that engine and there’s no question that the M2 has what it takes to quite possibly become BMW’->ke178s go-to M car.
