If there's one vehicle that singlehandedly revitalized the compact pickup segment, that would be the Ford Maverick. Thanks to its affordable price tag and ingenious practicality, the Maverick has proven to be enough of a hit for Ford to suspend orders temporarily. And, to make ownership even more fun, the Blue Oval brand has finally released the geometry files for the pickup's Ford Integrated Tether System (FITS).

As a recap, FITS are a set of T-shaped slots dotted around the Maverick. In total, there are eight around the cabin, one behind the center console and seven in the under-seat storage bins.

Ford already announced that the geometry files for the FITS tethers will eventually be released. Prior to this, a number of third-party accessory manufacturers and even Ford themselves have developed a host of accessories that fit (no pun intended) into those slots, such as pet food dishes, wireless charging slots, cupholders, trash bins, just to name a few.

Thanks to these geometry files now being made public, anyone who has a bit of engineering know-how and access to a 3D printer will be able to create their own accessories that will fit into these tethers. This feature will definitely please a younger demographic who are into do-it-yourself (DIY) projects and those who are seeking to make their adventures more user-friendly.

These FITS geometry files are free-of-charge, and these are CAD data for the center console and under-seat storage. This is Ford's way of being able to connect with its customers on a much more personal level. If all of this makes you even more excited to get your own Maverick, then you'd be happy to know that Ford will eventually resume accepting orders for its compact pickup soon.
