Hertz is a tried-and-tested name in the rental car game, and its latest offering is going to scratch a lot of sports car itches. As part of the company’s 100th-anniversary celebration, Hertz is offering 100 special edition Chevrolet Corvette Z06s at the cost of just $199 per day. Throw in other fees and taxes and that total bumps up to almost $300, but still, that’s a relative bargain to pay for the chance to spend a day with one of these black and yellow beauties.

Before you get excited about the prospect of going home with a Chevrolet Corvette Z06 100th Anniversary Edition, there are some details that you have to know. The first, and probably, most important is that by virtue of there being only 100 units of this special edition Corvette, not every local Hertz rental place is going to have them. In fact, the sports car will only be available at 14 major airports across the U.S., including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Orlando, San Diego, San Francisco, and Tampa.

If you somehow live near any of these airports and you can avail of these Corvettes, you should also know that they’re not exactly special edition models in the traditional sense of how the term is used these days. According to Hertz, the only thing different about them are their colors — the yellow-on-black body is Hertz’s colors — model number, and special Hertz badging. Everything else comes standard, including all the goodies you’ll normally find on a Corvette sitting inside one of your local dealerships.

So why even bother to rent them, then? It’s a yellow and black Corvette. That’s one. How often do you see one in those colors? If anything, the Chevrolet Camaro, by virtue of its association with Bumblebee and the whole Transformers franchise, has owned that color scheme over the last decade. It’s about time the Corvette got in on the fun. There’s also the fact that even if it’s still a standard Corvette, it still packs 650 horsepower, enough power to make the rental money worth every penny.

The Corvette Z06 is part of Hertz’s Adrenaline Collection. Given its name, you can immediately assume that this collection is made up of other scintillating performance cars, including the Ford Mustang GT, the Dodge Challenger R/T, and the aforementioned Chevrolet Camaro. You can get your adrenaline fix on any one of these models, but the Corvette 100th Anniversary Edition is extra special by virtue of its status and limited quantity.

You might need to act fast, too, because based on Hertz’s history of rolling out special edition rentals, the Corvette 100th Anniversary isn’t going to be available for long. There’s a good chance that it’ll be offered for a few months before it moves on to other things. Still, that should be enough time to save up and spend for a fun weekend with a pretty cool-looking Vette Z06.
