As much as we would have liked to see the likes of Dodge Durango SRT and Maserati Levante Trofeo join in on this drag race, we’ll have to settle for FCA’s other two high-performance SUVs. Which is not that bad, considering that what you’e about to see is a straight-line skirmish between the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and the Alfa Romeo Stelvio QV.

Wait, that’s not a fair fight!

Yeah, you’re right. It’s not. This race does seem unfair at first sight and for good reason. It puts power down on all four corners with some help from an eight-speed automatic transmission and needs just 3.5 seconds to set the 0-60 mph interval on fire.

Alfa Romeo’s hard-punching Stelvio QV, on the other hand, is motivated by a 505-horsepower (at 6,500 rpm), 443 pound-feet of torque (at 2,500-5,500 rpm) 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-6. AWD is also on the menu, as is an eight-speed auto transmission that paves the way for a 0-60 mph sprint time of 3.6 seconds, 0.1 seconds slower than the Trackhawk.

If you’re wondering how the Stelvio QV perform similarly to the Trackhawk despite the fact that it packs 202 horsepower less, well, the answer is weight. The Italian SUV weighs 4,360 pounds (just under two tons or exactly 1,978 kilos), while the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is considerably heavier, at 5,363 pounds (almost 2.5 tons or 2,432 kilos, to be more precise).

That said, we couldn’t help but applaud the Stelvio QV’s performance. As you’ll see in the video, the Trackhawk never really manages to shake it off, although towards the end of the race, the sheer amount of horsepower and drag racing-focus has the final word, allowing the American to finish the sprint in front. Of course, things would be completely different on a twisty road or circuit, where the Stelvio would surely run circles around the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. But for now, it’s Jeep’s fan base that gets the bragging rights.
