There’s nothing ordinary about the Engler F.F Superquad

LISTEN 03:25

Quad bikes aren’t new inventions. They’ve been around for some time now, and there are many manufacturers — Honda, Suzuki, Arctic Cat, among them — that build and sell quad bikes. But we’re not here to talk about those quad bikes or all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) as they are otherwise known. We’re here to talk about a unique ATV, and it might as well be called the quad bike: the Engler F.F Superquad. While it does fit the profile of an ATV, the F.F Superquad is anything but a normal quad bike. It’s more like a mishmash between a motorcycle and a supercar carrying enough power to make other exotics weep. YouTube sensation Shmee found some time away from his busy schedule to check out the Superquad ahead of its debut at Salon Prive in the U.K., and, as you may have guessed, even Shmee found himself geeking out over this extraordinary vehicle.

What’s the Engler F.F Superquad all about?

It must be nice to be Shmee, isn’t it? He gets to drive some of the finest cars in the world, and he presumably gets paid by YouTube to do it. This time, Shmee gets to drive the Engler F.F Superquad, arguably one of the most unique four-wheeled creations in recent history. While it’s technically billed as a quad bike, the F.F Superquad, according to Shmee, is classified as a car. That opens it up to all sorts of regulations and safety laws, depending on the country. All that red tape is complicated to talk about, so let’s table that and instead focus on the vehicle itself.

The F.F Superquad looks like a supercar, albeit one with no roof, doors, and steering wheel.

It does have a seat in the middle for two people like most motorcycles, and it comes with the throttle and brakes on the handles. You basically operate it as a motorcycle even if it has the stance and design of a supercar.

Speaking of its design, the F.F Superquad looks properly aggressive the way most supercars are. It has a super aggressive front section with proper supercar headlights. Both the front and rear sections are styled to look like exotics, and that contributes to the eccentric overall look when you factor in the open sides. Of course, the F.F Superquad doesn’t just look like a supercar; it’s powered like one, too.

Making this machine move is an Audi R8-sourced 5.2-liter twin-turbo V-10 engine that produces a whopping 1,100 horsepower. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sends all that power to all four wheels of the bike. Give the F.F Superquad an open road, and it can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 217 mph. Imagine the kind of open-air fun you can have riding this thing. Be sure to wear a helmet and goggles, though, or your face might end up as a meme.

The F.F Superquad is as unique as it is exclusive. Victor Engler, the man behind the machine, said that only ten units will be built per year. Shmee then added that all units to be produced in the first two years — that’s 20 units — are already spoken for. A specific price hasn’t been announced, but if you are interested in buying one, your best bet is to head over the company’s website and inquire there.

Kirby’s first exposure into the world of automobiles happened when he caught Knight Rider on television as a five-year old boy. David Hasselhoff didn’t leave much of an impression on him (that happened later on in Baywatch), but KITT certainly did. To this day, Kirby remains convinced that he will one day own a car with the same ‘spirit’ as the original KITT (not the 2008 monstrosity). He doesn't know when that will be, but until then, he’s committed to expressing his love for KITT, and all cars for that matter, here at TopSpeed.  Read full bio
