The Ferrari 488 Pista was placed on this earth for one reason: to go fast. The scarlet demon is powered by a 3.9-liter biturbo V-8 engine that produces 711 horsepower and 567 pound-feet of torque. It’s capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in only 2.85 seconds on its way to a top speed of 211 mph.

It’s going to take a special kind of supercar to match wits with the Pista, especially when it comes to setting lap times. German auto news outlet Auto Motor Und Sport wanted to find out just how fast the 488 Pista can go on a track, so they brought the Italian supercar to Mendig, a former military airbase in Germany that has been turned into a test track for automakers.

I’m not going to pretend to understand the language in this video, but you only need to watch it a few times to understand what was going on. Auto Motor Und Sport brought the Ferrari 488 Pista to the Menig track to see if it could set the fastest lap in the circuit and unseat the McLaren 720S as the fastest car around the track. Seems simple enough, right? Professional racing driver Christian Menzel was even brought in to give the 488 Pista a proper shakedown before it did its official lap time.

After a few minutes of Menzel driving the 488 Pista around the track without me understanding a word of what he’s saying — he looks like he’s having some fun — the German racer finally strapped on a helmet, put on a pair of racing gloves, and proceeded to do a hot lap in the 488 Pista.

It wasn’t just the 720S’ lap time that the 488 Pista destroyed. The Ferrari supercar was also 1.79 seconds quicker than the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, almost four seconds quicker than the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro, and over four seconds faster than the Lamborghini Aventador SV}.

Mind you, the Aventador SV packs more power than the 488 Pista so it’s a testament to the latter’s aero setup that it can post a lap time that’s absurdly faster than exotics that pack more power.
