Flamboyant reveal events and fancily wrapped press releases aside, a sports car’s true salt is less about its spec sheet and more about what it can do out on the track. Not on the street, because traffic laws pretty much act as an equalizer that limits a high-performance car’s ability to, well, perform.

The good ol’ circuit is still the place where a sports car/supercar/hypercar has to prove its mettle and as it has done on several previous occasions, the Chevy C8 Corvette once again silences naysayers with an impressive outing against one of best corner-carving machines ever built.

How good is the Corvette C8 on the track?

According to the video you’re about to see, the Chevy C8 Corvette is as apt as a Porsche 911 GT3 RS on a twisty circuit. Heck, let’s forget that the C8 can lap the Nürburgring in 7 minutes and 29.9 seconds but at the same time remember that the most important component of a sports car is the one sitting behind the steering wheel.

The action takes place at the Willow Springs Raceway in California during an open track day. It’s also worth mentioning that the C8 in question is tweaked to Chevy’s recommended track camber settings, namely -3 degrees in the front and -2.5 degrees in the rear.

Now, since the amount of driving skill is a variable, the two cars’ spec sheets are not. In that sense, the C8 Corvette makes do with a 490-horsepower, 465-pound-feet of torque 6.2-liter LT2 V-8 twinned to an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The 911 GT3 RS draws its strength from a 4.0-liter boxer-six powerplant bolted to a seven-speed PDK (also of the dual-clutch ilk). The engine cranks out 500 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of twist.

As you can see, while power levels are quite on par, the C8 packs more torque, which helps it accelerate swiftly once it passes the apex. The 911 GT3 RS, however, tips the scales at 3,153 pounds, while the C8 is a tad heavier, coming in at 3,366 pounds.
