It’s obvious that EVs are becoming more and more mainstream and this even extends to project cars and various builds. Of course, an electric motor is not as exciting to look at as a powerful internal combustion engine, which is why Canadian company, Webb Motorworks has developed a way for the buzzing powerplants to look like a classic V-8 engine.

The Canadian company has developed a series of designs for the electric motors, which were displayed at the 2021 SEMA Show. Currently, three different V-8 designs are available – small block, flathead, and HEMI. The guys at Webb Motorworks say more designs will be available in the future, including a V-12. We might even see a couple of inline-six designs and even a rotary at some point.

Moreover, Webb Motorworks say it’s a simple “plug and play” procedure, meaning all of the electric motor designs can be dropped straight into the corresponding chassis, by utilizing the stock engine mounts. Webb – the founder of the company – says you can probably install the entire drivetrain within a weekend.

In terms of power output, it ranges from 250 to 375 horsepower, combined, depending on customers’ requests, with peak torque at 516 pound-feet (700 Nm). That said, the V-8-styled electric motors do not come with everything. You will have to use your own exhaust manifold and carburetors, to complete the classic look.

While electrification has become a part of the tuner world, an electric motor, impersonating a V-8 could be viewed as something of a travesty, by some of the hardliners. On the other hand, there are those who have already embraced electrification and would love the hint of nostalgia Webb Motorworks brings to the table. One thing is certain, these will be the most silent “V-8 engines” you will ever see.
