The Chevrolet Silverado's history can be summed up in one little saying, “If it ain't broke, don't fix it.” This has been Chevrolet's motto since the Silverado was first produced in 1998, and they have followed it throughout the years. The Silverado comes in a few different variants with plenty of engine options. Customers can choose between a V6 option with 195ho and 260 lb-ft of torque or four different V8 engines with power outputs starting at 302hp and 305 lb-ft of torque up through 403hp and 417 lb-ft of torque. These engines are mated to either a 4- or 6-speed automatic, continuously variable transmission. Choose the Silverado HD (Heavy Duty) and choose between a 6.0L V8 producing 322/360hp and 380 lb-ft of torque or a 6.6L turbo diesel V8 engine with 365hp and 660 lb-ft of torque. Both of these engines are mated to a six-speed automatic. In order to keep up with the competition – the Toyota Tundra can pull up to 10,800lbs -, the Silverado is able to haul up to 10,700 lbs when equipped with the optional trailering package. The Silverado HD can tow 11,700-16,700lbs.
