Chevrolet has a big celebration on the horizon as 2012 marks the Camaro’s 45th anniversary, and the best way for an automaker to celebrate such an event is to launch a new special edition. Appropriately called the Camaro 45th Anniversary Edition, this new model will be offered on the Camaro’s top two trim levels (2LT and 2SS) for both coupe and convertible body styles.

"The appeal of Camaro design and performance has powered it to the top of its segment," said Rick Scheidt, vice president of Chevrolet marketing. "For 2012, we’re capitalizing on that momentum with enhancements to Camaro’s performance and comfort."

The special edition won’t be the only jazzed up Camaro for 2012 as the standard model will also receive a plethora of enhancements. The 2012 Camaro will include a new 3.6L direct injection V-6 LFX engine, an FE4 suspension for the SS version, and interior appearance, ergonomic, and technology upgrades for Camaro drivers and passengers. All of these upgrades will be also be applied to the Camaro 45th Anniversary Edition.

UPDATE 03/28/12: The first model of the Chevrolet Camaro 45th Anniversary Edition won’t be headed to dealerships. Instead, the car is headed to the Barrett-Jackson auction at Palm Beach, Florida on April 6 where it will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Knowing how some folks can get bid-happy in these places, we won’t be surprised if the first Camaro 45th Anniversary Edition sells a lot more than what it’s supposedly worth.

UPDATE 04/10/12: $150,000. That’s how much the Chevrolet Camaro 45th Anniversary Edition cost one bidder after the car was auctioned off at the Barrett-Jackson auction at Palm Beach, Florida. Despite the six-figure price tag, the bidder ought to be feeling good about himself because, one, he now owns the first production model of the limited run Camaro and two, all that money he paid for it will be sent to the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.

The biggest competitor for the Camaro, even in 2012, will remain the Ford Mustang. Ford hasn’t announced many special editions for the 2012 model year just yet, but we’re sure they will be coming to compete with Camaro’s 45th Anniversary Edition. Aside from the special editions, the Mustang line-up includes plenty of models to choose from, starting with the standard Mustang V6 with its 305 HP and the GT500 with 550 HP. There is also the special Mustang Boss 302 that delivers 444 Hp. So, once again, the competition between the two models will be very tight.

Impressive sporty look, I also like its glossy paint it gives the classy and sophisticated looks on it, but I don’t think that V6 engine could give on it a better performance.

I congratulate Chevrolet for reaching 45 years in service. By the way, I like the color combination of the car and the optional engine. The bad thing here is it only comes for a limited edition.

Camaro 45th Edition has absolutely had a cool features. Just make my sense inquisitiveness that why cars need to put a nasty grille that’s not really good appealing with.

Yeah, I also like that one. But what I am really loving with this car is the way they did the interior. Looks very clean, while being cool at the same time.

No one probably noticed, but on of the things that I really like about this car is the asymmetrical design of the hood. It really looks cool.

Well, since there are still a lot of upgrades that they plan to add to the standard Camaro, it would be a hard choice between this and that. But for sheer looks, I would pick this one up.

Yeah, I also lack the black color theme, it feels like a fitting color scheme for this so called Anniversary edition. And the engine upgrades also fit well.

Well, the set of upgrades that they have brought for this one is not bad. I really like the list of engine enhancements that I am seeing here.

I find this edition kind of special. I think this is the only version that I do agree to be special, Yeah I agree with you. I like the styling, gorgeous look and everything about it! I bet the competition would be tough since this car is aroundsmiley

I find this edition kind of special. I think this is the only version that I do agree to be special, I mean is, most of the car manufacture makes facelift in the car then call it "special edition" but for this car it a total package!

The black theme of the Chevy Camaro adds to the aggressiveness of this car. The carbon fiber richness looks so drooling and the detailing is great!

I like the carbon fiber richness for the interior and the whole package is incredible! IMO, this is the real definition of the word "SPECIAL"!

The platform seems similar to the Dodge Camaro! However, this car look so smart and I think it would be great to have one of this.

  (474) posted on 04.14.2011

It seems that muscle car has the same faces but differs only in the performance! The exterior looks great same with its interior detailing!

  (449) posted on 04.14.2011

Well, from the looks of this one, the car definitely is worth to be called the Anniversary Edition. And they have really brought out all the fancy upgrades for this one.

I must admit that I am a bit skeptical about Chevrolet’s announcement that they will be releasing a new Camaro edition after every six months. But this one is definitely showign that they are making good on that promise.
