While the 2015 Corvette Stingray is getting ready to hit the 2014 SEMA Show wearing a body kit from newcomers Revorix, Chevrolet is gearing up for the event with a host of compacts and sedans that showcase several Chevrolet Performance parts. Among them is a rear-wheel-drive SS dressed up as the Sport Concept.

The sedan is far from being spectacular, as it has been enhanced only by a new exterior color, a couple of body-colored parts and some Chevrolet Accessories goodies, but you have to hand it to Chevy for trying to attract new customers with a bespoke visual package. We say "visual" because the SS Sport Concept remained stock under the hood.

The only mechanical upgrades consists of the standard Magnetic Ride Control system and the new Brembo rear brakes, which come as an update with the 2015 model year sedan. Read on to find out what sets the Sport Concept apart from the stock SS.

Chevrolet SS Sport Concept in detail

The Sport Concept is wrapped in a Some Like it Red Hot exterior, which is one of the five new colors added to the SS palette for the 2015 model year. It’s a high-impact shade that suits the sedan quite well, and you’ll get the chance to see it live for the very fist time on the SEMA Show floor. Along with the new paint job come body-colored door handles and mirrors, and black Chevrolet Accessories stripes for the hood and deck lid. Granted, these feats add a touch of sportiness to an otherwise boring-looking sedan.

Exterior enhancements continue with Chevrolet Accessories grille kit, fog lamp bezels, side fender vents, and rear spoiler. These modifications are rather subtle, but they do eliminate the chrome trims on the front fascia for a stealthier appearance. The feeling is enhanced by a set of Chevy Accessories wheels, which are finished in black and feature a slightly different spoke design.

Interior goodies include a sport pedal kit and new cargo net, floor mats and cargo tray, all sourced from the Chevrolet Accessories catalog. All is good so far, except for one tiny detail. The wheel caps, the floor mats and the cargo tray all feature a Holden logo. I know the SS is based on the Australian-built, Holden VF Commodore, but this is ridiculous.

Under the hood is where things remain unaltered. The Sport Concept is motivated by the same 6.2-liter, LS3 ,V-8 engine as the stock sedan, meaning there is 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque traveling to the wheels through either a six-speed automatic or the new six-speed manual. Can I trade the Holden logos for a few extra ponies?

Launched for the 2014 model year in the United States, the Chevrolet SS is essentially a rebadged Holden VF Commodore. The performance sedan is fitted with a 6.2-liter, V-8 engine — the same found in the C6-generation Corvette — detuned slightly to produce 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. The LS3 unit mates to either a six-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual and sends the sedan roaring from 0 to 60 mph in only 4.5 seconds.

It may look like your grandfather’s sedan, but the SS is quicker than the Camaro SS. On top of that, it comes with all the family-hauling capabilities you can’t get with a muscle car. As far as sedans go, the SS is definitely a cool ride.
