Chevrolet is dropping a heavy load of custom models at the 2015 SEMA Auto Show and to no one’s surprise the Chevrolet Camaro is once again playing a starring role in it. A bunch of Camaro concepts will be showcased at SEMA, including the Camaro Black concept, a blacked-out Camaro SS meant to display the muscle car’s stealthy aggressiveness.

Like some of the past SEMA-bound Camaros I’ve seen, the Camaro Black Concept’s main purpose is to present itself to customers in a way that gives them an idea on the customization potential of the car. This particular Camaro doesn’t bring anything outlandish to the table; it’s just dressed up in all-black, just like what a lot of Camaro owners are into these days.

If anything, the Camaro Black Concept is likely the one Camaro that SEMA visitors will remember when they’ll have their 2016 Camaros customized. Nothing sells like black these days, even more so when it’s used on a muscle car with bad intentions.

The exterior of the Camaro Black Concept is treated with a Mosaic Black Metallic paint finish that, according to Chevrolet, has become the rage among Camaro owners looking to give their muscle cars a color makeover. Keeping with the theme of the concept, Chevrolet dressed up the hood vents in the exact same paint finish as the body.

The only thing that isn’t black on the body of this concept are the red LED lights

Quite literally, every new component and accessory in this concept is black. That also includes the black-outlined SS badges, black-tinted windows, black bowtie emblems, special Black Edition logos on the fenders, and a new set of 20-inch aluminum wheels dressed up in, you guessed it, black. The only thing that isn’t black on the body of this concept are the red LED lights, which actually work in giving the Camaro Black a more sinister look.

From an aerodynamic standpoint, the Camaro Black Concept also benefits from a new ground effects kit and a rear blade spoiler.

Most of the custom work was done on the exterior, although the Camaro’s interior also received its share of upgrades. The most prominent upgrade is the Spectrum door trim lighting that lights up in all its glory when the doors are open. The other pertinent cabin improvements include new steering wheel and console covers, black suede knee pads, and Chevrolet Performance-Logo floor mats with hints of light grey edging.

No engine modifications were given to the Chevrolet Camaro Black Concept. Since it’s based on the Camaro SS, expect to see the same 6.2-liter V-8 engine that pumps out an impressive 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque. On that note, Chevrolet did say that the Camaro Black Concept has a new air intake, a new exhaust system, and upgraded brakes to enhance the muscle car’s overall driving experience.

I’m not one to easily be impressed with Camaro concepts since I see them every year at SEMA. The Camaro Black Concept is an exception because it’s not really a concept in the traditional sense. It’s Chevrolet’s way of showcasing what the Camaro is going to look like when its dressed in all black. Since a lot of customers are into the whole black Camaro thing these days, this concept should give them a pretty good picture of what they can expect when they have their own Camaros modified to look like this. The red LED lamps are an added bonus since they really bring out the devilish look to the whole custom treatment.

“It is a very popular thing customers do with the fifth-generation Camaro and we wanted to be the first to show how it looks with the new Gen Six,” said Adam Barry, senior creative designer, Chevrolet Camaro. “I’ll tell you – it looks pretty sinister.”

Starting with the production Mosaic Black Metallic exterior color, the Camaro features several custom exterior treatments, including Mosaic Black Metallic hood vents, black-outlined SS badges, black-tinted windows, special Black Edition logos on the fenders, steering wheel and console cover – and black 20-inch aluminum wheels.
