University of Texas fans can now get their jollies with this UT-branded edition Chevrolet Silverado. The truck is decked out in Sunset Orange Metallic paint and features prominent Texas Longhorn logos above the rear tires and on the tailgate. Onlookers and fans of other teams will have no doubt which college football team this Chevy’s owner is for.

The special edition truck will be sold nationwide for an extra $795 on select Silverado trim levels, but the real story is that Chevrolet is its second year of a multi-year contract with the University of Texas as a sponsor for the school’s athletic program. “There is no more appropriate place to showcase the stronger, smarter, more capable Chevrolet Silverado than in the heart of truck country,” says Sandor Piszar, Chevrolet director of Truck Marketing.

Chevy is also the official truck of Bevo, the Texas Longhorns’ mascot. A Silverado HD gets the honors of hauling Bevo’s trailer around from game to game, all over the country.

As for the University of Texas edition Silverado, the package can only be ordered on two- or four-wheel-drive Double Cab trucks with the LT or LTZ trim package; or the larger Crew Cab version in LTZ trim. The truck also must be ordered with the Texas Edition Package.

The Chevrolet Silverado has long been the second best-selling truck in America for more years than anyone cares to count. Surpassed only by the Ford F-150 in sales, the Silverado offers customers a plethora of cab, bed, engine, and trim configurations, not to mention the 1500, 2500, and 3500 series.

The half-ton, 1500 version is available with three engines: a 4.3-liter V-6, a 5.3-liter V-8, and a 6.2-liter V-8. All three engines are designated EcoTec3, meaning they each use variable valve timing, direct fuel injection, and active fuel management (displacement on demand) to make impressive power and deliver good fuel economy.

The Silverado comes in three cab configurations, three bed lengths, two- and four-wheel-drive, and with trim levels ranging from vinyl-covered work trucks to leather-lined luxury trucks near the level of the Cadillac Escalade.

Pricing for the Silverado starts at $25,575 and grows to over $53,000 for the top trim level.

Press Release

Coinciding with the start of The University of Texas Longhorns football season, Chevrolet today announced a special-edition University of Texas Longhorns Silverado.

Featuring Sunset Orange Metallic exterior paint, special UT graphics on the pickup bed and tailgate, and chrome side steps, the UT edition package goes on sale nationwide next month with a suggested retail price of $795. To receive the UT Edition, customers must purchase a Silverado Double Cab in LT or LTZ trim, or a Crew Cab in LTZ trim, with the Texas Edition package.

“There is no more appropriate place to showcase the stronger, smarter, more capable Chevrolet Silverado than in the heart of truck country,” said Sandor Piszar, Chevrolet director of Truck Marketing. “The special-edition Silverado is a natural fit for Chevrolet in Texas, where a Longhorn fan lives in one out of every three households, and those fans are almost twice as likely as average consumers to buy a truck.”

Chevrolet, The University of Texas Athletics program, IMG College and the Texas Exes UT student alumni association last year announced a multi-year sponsorship agreement, designating Silverado as the Official Truck of the Texas Longhorns and of the Texas Exes. Silverado is also the Official Truck of Bevo, the Texas Longhorns’ mascot.

"This is an exciting way for Longhorns everywhere to show their Texas pride as they cruise America’s highways and byways, and I’m glad to see that Bevo XIV will continue to ride in style," said Steve Patterson, director of Men’s Athletics at The University of Texas. "We appreciate our great partnership with Chevrolet and their support of Texas Athletics."

Additional features and content on the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado UT Special Edition include:

2WD or 4WD Double Cab LT or LTZ Trim with Texas Edition package configurations
LT – 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, body color mirror and door handles and Texas Edition badge
LTZ – 20-inch chrome wheels, chrome mirrors and door handles and Texas Edition badge
Spray-in bed liner.

Unique opportunities provided by the Chevrolet and The University of Texas sponsorship include allowing a Silverado HD pickup to pull Bevo’s trailer to and from events, showcasing a Silverado at the Texas Exes’ “Biggest Tailgate in Texas,” the Chevy Silverado Ticket Will Call & Pick-up Window designations and the Official Truck of the AT&T Red River Showdown, the annual Texas vs. Oklahoma football game at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The Silverado logo also appears on the backdrop for all Texas Athletics official media conferences and interviews.
