Chevrolet Sonic Accessories Concept In Detail

The Sonic Accessories Concept is not as flashy as some of the other Sonic concepts we’ve seen at SEMA in recent years, but that’s beside the point. This model isn’t an off-the-wall concept like the Sonic Boom was back in 2011, nor is it as not as eye-popping and heavily modified like the Sonic RS Concept we saw at the 2013 SEMA show.

But those aren’t the reasons why we should pay attention to the Sonic Accessories Concept. We should pay attention to this model because it’s essentially a preview model of the Sonic’s new list of accessories.

It’s got a Summit White exterior color with an offset matte black racing stripe running the down the hatchback’s entire length. It also has new headlamp and taillight rings, a new black grille surround, new mirror covers, and a rear spoiler. Chevy also installed a set of 17-inch aluminum wheels, as well as a suspension kit that lowers the hatchback’s ride height.

New carpeted floor mats, door sills, and sports pedals are also part of what Chevrolet is offering for the Sonic. Another interior highlight is the Kicker subwoofer and amplifier, providing a highly entertaining and admittedly pulse-pounding new element to the Sonic’s already impressive list of new accessories.

Chevrolet Sonic

The Chevrolet Sonic has always been one of Chevrolet’s most interesting models. It’s become a popular model for a lot of Chevy buyers since the second-generation model arrived in 2011. It’s also become pretty popular with performance enthusiasts who swear by the Sonic as one of the most fun hot hatchbacks they’ve driven in quite a while.

How you can have a car with so many admirers cost less than $15,000 escapes me, but the Sonic somehow makes it all possible, thanks to a healthy combination of sporty looks and impressive performance credentials. I can’t say the same thing for the Sonic Sedan, but the hatchback version’s really where it’s at.

Despite it’s size, the Sonic still has an impressive engine lineup, boasting of a 1.8-liter inline-four engine and a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that each produces 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. The former is good for a 0-to-60-mph sprint time of 9.7 seconds while the latter can cover the same ground in just 7.9 seconds.

Prices for the 2014 Sonic begins at $14,185.
