The Chevrolet Suburban might not have the Corvette’s fame, but it’s the oldest vehicle nameplate not just in North America, but in the entire world. In production since 1934, the ’Burban has entered its 12th generation for 2015, one that brings a more stylish exterior and a refined interior to GM’s boxy hauler. Slightly larger and roomier, more powerful and capable than before, the new-generation Suburban has received a lot of praise. Granted, the large SUV received a lot of attention during its first months on the market. Now, as the 2014 SEMA Show opened its doors, the Suburban gets even more recognition, this time as a vehicle that’s as customizable as a sports car.

As with all SEMA Shows, Las Vegas is packed with Chevys wearing all sorts of Chevrolet Accessories parts. The new Suburban makes its SEMA debut as the Premium Outdoors Concept, a vehicle sporting a unique appearance, a luxurious interior and a bespoke trunk area packed with everything a sports fan needs to enjoy the big game. Of course, the Premium Outdoors isn’t an SUV you should expect to find in dealerships, but a statement of what can be achieved with the use of Chevrolet Accessories parts and other aftermarket components.

The SUV's interior is equally unique, being trimmed in Saddle and Cocoa leather.

The Suburban’s boxy appearance becomes quite classy with the Premium Outdoors Concept. The main feature responsible for its new elegant looks is the Pepperdust exterior, a glossy-grey color that’s complemented by Warm Tarnished accents. The body-colored door handles and front fascia — the standard SUV comes with a chrome piece — add to the Suburban’s uniform and at the same time exclusive aspect. The outer package is rounded off by a set of 22-inch, Chevrolet Accessories wheels with body-color inserts, concept front grille inserts and retractable running boards.

The SUV’s interior is equally unique, being trimmed in Saddle and Cocoa leather. Mustard piping and Warm Tarnished trim accents provide an appealing contrast, while the suede-trimmed headliner and the loop-carpet floor mats take the ’Burban’s cabin to a level its standard siblings can’t match. Lastly, the stock sill plates have been replaced by illuminated units available from Chevrolet Accessories.

Chevy scores some extra points for using wood salvaged from deconstructed Detroit homes to build both the table and the stools.

The Premium Outdoor’s main functional highlight lies in the cargo area, where Chevy sacrificed hauling space for a package any sports enthusiast would like to have in his trunk. A big-screen, smart HDVT is there to provide access to any sports event broadcast, while a handcrafted table and a couple of stools are ready to accommodate a spontaneous picnic. Chevy scores some extra points for using wood salvaged from deconstructed Detroit homes to build both the table and the stools.

Although many of these visually appealing vehicles are motivated by their stock engines, Chevrolet decided to surprise us by dropping a bigger engine under the Suburban’s hood. Gone is the standard 5.3-liter, EcoTec3 V-8 rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, replaced by the 6.2-liter V-8 mill found in the Cadillac Escalade. The unit cranks out 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of twist, and uses a Borla exhaust system with chrome, side-exit tips from Chevrolet Accessories. There’s no word on the performance increase that come with the new output, but we expect 0-to-60 mph to come in less than 7.5 seconds, with top speed to reach past the 120-mph mark.

The production Suburban’s standard engine is the EcoTec3 5.3L V-8, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque, but the larger-displacement 6.2L, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft., gives the Premium Outdoors concept an 18-percent increase in horsepower and a 20-percent boost in torque. The Borla exhaust system and chrome, side-exit exhaust tip from Chevrolet Accessories announces the new engine with authority.

And like the Tahoe concept, the Suburban Premium Outdoors concepts wears concept Brembo six-piston front brake calipers with performance brake pads and 16-inch slotted rotors.

The bold exterior features a Pepperdust color with Warm Tarnished accents, along with body-colored door handles and front fascia in place of the standard chrome components. There’s also a concept grille insert, retractable running boards and Chevrolet Accessories 22-inch wheels with body-color accents.

A leather-trimmed Saddle and Cocoa-colored cabin with Mustard piping gives the Suburban’s interior a unique ambience that’s complemented with Warm Tarnished trim accents, a suede-trimmed headliner and plush, contemporary loop-carpet floor mats. It also features Chevrolet Accessories illuminated sill plates.

And while the more powerful Suburban Premium Outdoors concept is designed to take its passengers just about anywhere, it’s also well-equipped to stay put during big games, with a concept tailgating package in the cargo area that includes a big-screen, smart HDTV, along with a handcrafted table and benches made of wood salvaged from deconstructed Detroit homes. Hot dogs and potato salad sold separately.
