With the 2015 SEMA Show just around the corner, Chevrolet has announced plans to introduce a line of Red Line Series concept vehicles — one of which is based on the redesigned, sixth-generation Camaro. Built to showcase a number of new accessories that will be available to customers as soon as the 2016 Camaro arrives in dealerships, the Camaro Red Line Series concept demonstrates the greater personalization that come with the new pony car.

As you may already know, the sixth-gen Camaro already benefits Chevy’s official Accessories and Performance components. By also gaining the accessories that come with the Red Line Series, the new muscle car will become the most customizable Camaro yet, which should be great news for Camaro enthusiasts.

“Chevrolet Accessories bring value and the added security of knowing the parts are designed, engineered, tested and backed by the same team that developed the vehicles,” said Roger McCormack, director of Chevrolet Accessories & Performance Parts Marketing.

The Red Line Series package will also be offered for the Malibu sedan, Trax crossover, and Colorado and Silverado 1500 pickup trucks.

The Red Line Series package showcased on the concept car includes five distinct components. Arguably, the most striking details are the 20-inch wheels finished in Satin Graphite with red accents, the black-and-red hash mark on the front fenders, and the black decal between the taillights. The coupe also features Satin Graphite mirror caps and window trim, as well as "Camaro" fender badges in gloss-black with red accents. The badges are particularly interesting, as the color combo gives them a glowing appearance. Also, the "M" incorporates the Camaro’s traditional colors — red, white, and blue.

The Camaro also features red grille inserts that go well with the rest of the package

Finally, Chevy says that the Red Line Series also include red foglamp bezels, but these aren’t visible on this concept car.

The Camaro also features red grille inserts that go well with the rest of the package, but these features aren’t included in the Red Line Series bundle. These can be purchased from the Chevrolet Accessories catalog, along with the black bowtie emblems, and the smoked taillights seen on the concept.

While the concept vehicle is painted Enhanced Silver Metallic and features a Charcoal roof, the Red Line Series package will become available with any color from the 2016 Camaro palette. Chevrolet likely went with this silver hue for the SEMA Show as it provides a better contrast for the black and red accents. Unfortunately, the Enhanced Silver Metallic isn’t available for the 2016 Camaro.

Interior

The Red Line Series package doesn’t include interior add-ons, so there’s nothing much to see here. However, the concept is equipped with the premium floor mats and sill plates available through the Chevrolet Accessories program. Though the interior is far from spectacular, it should prove interesting to those that have yet to see the new Camaro in the metal. Chevy redesigned the cockpit almost entirely, giving it a premium look.

Drivetrain

Chevrolet didn’t release drivetrain information, but based on the front fenders and the exhaust pipes, the concept is based on the V-6-powered LT model. Specifically, while both the four-cylinder and V-6 models feature vertical daytime running lights (the SS had horizontal units), the entry-level model uses a dual pipe exhaust layout, while the V-6 sports a quad-exhaust arrangement.

On the concept, the engine also has a Chevrolet Performance air intake kit that helps reduce air restriction.

This means the coupe gets its juice from a newly developed, 3.6-liter V-6 that generates 335 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque. The mill cranks out 12 extra horses and six extra pound-feet over the engine it replaces, making it the most powerful naturally aspirated V-6 in the segment. On the concept, the engine also has a Chevrolet Performance air intake kit that helps reduce air restriction.

All told, the Red Line Series package doesn’t come with performance-enhancing features and it should become available for all trim levels, including the V-8-powered SS.

Though it’s not exactly noticeable at first glance, the concept received the Chevy Performance suspension lowering kit and a brake package. The former lowers the vehicle by up to 0.8 inches, while the latter adds four-piston Brembo calipers on LT models and six-piston units on SS variants.

Conclusion

Granted, the Red Line Series concept is not as spectacular as other Camaros we’ve seen at the SEMA Show in recent years, but it’s the perfect showcase vehicle for Chevy’s latest design-enhancing features. Customizing is no longer about purchasing aftermarket parts. In order to survive in today’s demanding market, automakers need to provide their customers with numerous ways to customize their rides. Chevrolet was already doing just that through its Accessories and Performance catalogs, and the new Red Line Series package will most definitely make the 2016 Camaro, as well as all the other vehicles that will get it, a lot more appealing.

Chevrolet previewed the Red Line concepts today, including Trax, Malibu, Camaro, Colorado and Silverado 1500 models, ahead of their public debut at the SEMA Show, on November 3. The preview also included the sporty Spark RS concept.

“The Chevrolet Red Line Series concepts integrate accessories that offer greater personalization choices,” said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “Each vehicle wears production and concept accessories thematically linked under the Red Line Series banner. We look forward to gauging public reaction at the SEMA Show and other venues.”

All of the production and concept accessories were developed in Chevrolet’s design studio with the vehicles themselves. The production accessories will be available as the 2016 models arrive in dealer showrooms.

“Chevrolet Accessories bring value and the added security of knowing the parts are designed, engineered, tested and backed by the same team that developed the vehicles,” said Roger McCormack, director, Accessories & Performance Parts Marketing.

All of the Red Line Series concepts share Enhanced Silver Metallic exteriors, with a custom Charcoal roof panel and Satin Graphite and red accents. Additional vehicle highlights:
