Callaway is not known to be as big of an aftermarket performance company as say, Hennessey and Roush. However, the company is famous for working on GM builds, like the Camaro and the Corvette. They have even laid their hands on the Sierra and the Silverado, but this time around, Callaway has chosen one car from the SUV lineup – the Tahoe.

Callaway has taken the 2020 Tahoe under its wings to create a beast. The upgrade package will be offered with two engine options, both delivering different output figures. The company doesn’t do a lot in terms of aesthetics, but they sure as hell make a difference under the hood. With all the steroids infused into the SUV, is the Callaway Tahoe the ultimate full-sized sleeper SUV?

IWhat Did Callaway Do to the Tahoe's Exterior?

. Up front, it still features the same XL-sized headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights the middle. The not-so-big grille features the bowtie logo in the center and the SC 480 or SC 560 logo on the corner, depending on the engine you choose. The bumper features the fog lamps on both ends and a plastic strip running below it.

When you view the Tahoe from the side, you actually get to know how big the SUV is. The square wheel arches don’t feature any plastic cladding, which makes the Tahoe look very basic. The Callaway Tahoe comes with the same wheels and tires as the standard SUV. However, the company does offer a couple of wheel and tire packages, if you want something exclusive. The first one is a 20-inch, nine-spoke Graphite package, whereas the other one is a 22-inch, 10-spoke Black Chrome package. Other than this, there is nothing different on the side.

There are no changes made to the rear of the SUV. The Tahoe still looks stock from here, save for external badges. The slim, vertical taillights are getting too old in the tooth. Fortunately, the 2021 Tahoe comes with a host of changes that make the SUV feel fresh in and out. The Chevy logo sits atop the license plate, whereas the Tahoe name badge is placed on the left. The only nifty touch here is the Callaway-stamped dual exhaust pipes that actually look pretty sweet.

Did Callaway Customize the Interior of the Chevy Tahoe?

The Tahoe’s cabin has never really been its strong suit. Even in the stock form, it doesn’t really do wonders. Well, that could just be us after seeing the 2021 Tahoe. Nevertheless, the SUV comes with stuff like an eight-inch infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bose audio, power tailgate, and so on.

Chevy, however, offers a lot of packages for the Tahoe, which include stuff like keyless ignition, power moonroof, heated steering wheel, and a rear-seat DVD entertainment setup.

In the standard package, not even Callaway adds a lot of stuff, other than badging on the interior, embroidered floor mats, authenticity documentation package, and Callaway key fobs. It does offer a few optional packages that can make things a little exciting:

What Performance Upgrades are In the Callaway Chevy Tahoe?

This is where Callaway makes all the difference. The standard Tahoe comes with two engine options. The first is a 5.3-liter, V-8 engine that churns out 355 ponies and 383 pound-feet of twist. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox. An all-wheel-drive configuration is also available as an option. The other one is a bigger 6.2-liter, V-8 mill that produces 420 horses and 460 pound-feet of torque. This engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. With this setup, the Tahoe can tow up to 8,600 pounds.

A huge cold air charger intake system further bumps up the power significantly. Being a supercharger, Callaway has installed an intercooler system to keep it cool when the engine is put under heavy load. Here’s all the equipment that the company has equipped under the hood:

Thanks to these additions, the 5.3-liter engine now develops 480 horses and 477 pound-feet of torque, an addition of 125 horses and 94 pound-feet of torque.

That's more than a 25-percent increase in power for each of the two engines. As for the drive configurations, both these engines can be paired to either a two-wheel or four-wheel drive setup. The aftermarket company offers a couple of packages as an option that will make your supercharged Tahoe even better:

The fuel economy figures are not announced yet, but expect them to be marginally lesser than the stock Tahoe’s. Being a heavy SUV (5,700 pounds), the Tahoe suffers from low fuel economy issues. To counter this to an extent, both the engines feature a cylinder-deactivation feature that turns off four cylinders at highway speeds, helping push fuel economy numbers well over 20 mpg on average.

How Much Does The Callaway Package for the Chevy Tahoe Cost?

There are a lot of add-on packages that will make your wallet lighter by a few more thousand dollars. This is over and above the cost of a Tahoe. The standard 2020 Tahoe starts at $49,000. Callaway offers a three-year/36,000-mile warranty as standard. The company also offers a five-year/60,000-mile warranty on it.

Final Thoughts

The Callaway Tahoe simply feels overpriced and is not worth the money. Yes, you do get a power bump, but other than that, you have to pay additionally, be it for better brakes or sportier interiors. For a complete package that fills all the boxes, you will be spending well over $20,000. That pushes the cost of your Tahoe over $70,000 for the base trim.

That said, the power output figures are significantly higher now. You can opt for higher trims from many SUVs in this segment with that money, but you won’t be getting this much power with any of the options. However, if you’re open to other SUVs and aftermarket companies, it won’t hurt to look around for upgrade packages from companies like Roush as well.

Or, if you want a better Tahoe, we’d suggest waiting for the 2021 model. Even though the engine specs are identical, you’d get stuff like a four-link independent rear suspension that will absolutely change the way the Tahoe drives.
