2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8.R
Corvette Racing, the oldest continuous program in top-level sports car racing of the modern era, unveiled its next chapter back in October when GM unexpectedly took the wraps off the C8.R, the GTE-spec race car based on the eighth-generation Corvette. It comes with a menacing body kit, a huge wing hanging over the back, and a flat-plane crank, 500 horsepower, 5.5-liter V-8 in the middle. A pair will race in the IMSA Weathertech SportsCar Championship and at Le Mans next year, so keep your eyes and ears peeled.
It was back in 1999 at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona that a factory-backed racing Corvette first took to the track in an official practice session for a race. After decades of racing in privateer hands, barring some semi-factory-backed efforts that were ultimately canned due to GM’s ban on motorsport-related activities, the Corvette finally competed with backing from Detroit. 21 years later, Corvette Racing is still taking on the world’s best on America’s road courses and beyond and its latest weapon is unarguably the craziest yet.
2017 Chevrolet ZR2 Race Development Truck
Chevy brought two custom Colorado ZR2 pickups to SEMA this year with some heavy modifications that make them even better off-road. One was built in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles and meant for over-landing while this, the Colorado ZR2 Race Development Truck, is built for high-speed desert running. In fact, many of the upgrades on this truck were first tested on Chad Hall’s Colorado ZR2, which ran in the “Best In The Desert” race series.
The list of modifications isn’t overly extensive, showing just how capable the Colorado ZR2 is from the factory. The truck’s crown jewel is its DSSV spool valve shock absorbers from Multimatic. DSSV shocks were developed for supercars and F1 race teams, so its adoption for an off-roader was unconventional. The factory truck also has better ground clearance than a regular Colorado, along with bespoke bodywork that improved approach and departure angles. Adding to its capability are front and rear electronic differential lockers – something not found on any other Colorado. Still, Chevy improved on the ZR2’s design for hard-core racing.

2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car
Unveiled in late 2015, the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro brought many improvements to GM’s iconic muscle car. The design is fresh, yet still retains the classic Camaro cues, while the architecture is significantly lighter, which basically turns the muscle car into a full-fledged sports coupe. The revised interior, the more powerful V-6 and V-8 engines and the brand-new, turbocharged four-cylinder also helped bring the Camaro into the 21st century. As usual, the standard model serves as a base for a range of performance-oriented versions such as the supercharged ZL1, the track-ready Z/28, and the tire-burning COPO.
Although not exactly related to the street-legal Camaro in terms of platform, drivetrain, and technology, the sixth-gen coupe also served as inspiration for a new Funny Car. Created for the 2016 National Hot Rod Association racing season, the new Camaro SS Funny Car was just unveiled by Chevrolet and 16-time NHRA champion John Force ahead of the Kansas Nationals in Topeka on May 21st and 22nd.
Force’s new Funny Car body is the first based on the sixth-generation Camaro SS and features new aerodynamic elements, as well as a more powerful supercharged engine. The body is also lighter, which in conjunction with the revised drivetrains, will result in quicker quarter-mile sprints.
“I started my career in a Chevrolet and I couldn’t be more excited to put this new Camaro SS Funny Car on the track,” said John Force. “With all the assistance from Chevrolet, it not only looks great, it’s designed to perform better than anything we’ve had before, with a shape that should help us get down the track quicker and with greater stability.”
The Camaro SS Funny Car joins the 2016 NHRA in the Pro class and is the second Camaro-based model to race in this year’s season. The first one is the COPO Camaro, which competes in the Sportsman class and was introduced by Courtney Force, one of John’s daughters and also a drag racer, at the 2015 SEMA Show. Unlike the SS Funny Car, the COPO shares actual body panels and chassis components with the standard Camaro SS.

It’s been about two years since Chevrolet launched the seventh-generation Corvette and Callaway announced a GT3 racing program for the sports car. At last, the brand’s German-based motorsport division has finally introduced its track-only Vette. Dubbed the Callaway Corvette C7 GT3-R, the new race car made its official debut at the Hockenheimring track in Germany as a successor to the Corvette C6-based Callaway Z06.R GT3.
Set to hit the track in official racing events in 2016, the GT3.R was built to meet all FIA rules and regulations, meaning it is eligible for the GTLM class of the United SportsCar Championship, the Blancpain Endurance Series, as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans race.
"We wanted to set another milestone in our company’s history with our new design, developing and constructing a future-proof vehicle that will be produced from 2016 and used for many years to come," said Ernst Wöhr and Giovanni Ciccone, managing partners of Callaway Competition. "As a small, privately owned team, we knew from the outset that approaching a project of this magnitude would be very daring. Therefore, first and foremost, we have to thank our employees and partners who have made it possible to finally set the C7 GT3-R on its wheels,"

The 2015 IndyCar season is set to commence on March 29th with an array of driver, schedule, and rules changes, but that’s not unusual, as driver swaps and new regulations occur with each championship. However, 2015 marks the beginning of a new era for the IndyCar Series, in which manufacturers provide their customer teams with complete aerodynamic packages in addition to engines. In short, IndyCar allowed both Chevrolet and Honda to create their very own aero kits to replace the Dallara’s standard DW12 package used in 2014. Chevrolet is the first of the two to unveil its shell and introduce us to IndyCar’s new aerodynamics.
The new bodywork is significantly different than Dallara’s, and, in some aspects, it resembles the current Formula One designs. Chevy’s new aero kit will be used by six out of 12 teams throughout the 2015, including CFH Racing, Chip Ganassi Racing, Jonathan Byrd’s Racing, KV Racing Technology, Lazier Parners Racing and Team Penske. In all, 15 cars will race their way to victory using Chevrolet bodies and engines this season. And given Chevy starts the season as the defending champion, the drivers are expecting to receive the best packages.

We love the 2015 Corvette. It’s a V-8-powered rocket ship, a rear-wheel-drive internal-combustion serenade, and a street-legal racecar all bundled up in one tidy star-spangled package. For the money, not much can touch it on the track. And that’s exactly what makes it the perfect inspiration to step into the realm of race-only prototypes.
The destroyer-of-asphalt that sits before you is the Corvette Daytona Prototype. It competes in the Tudor United SportsCar Championship (TUSCC), a new racing series that’s the result of last year’s merger between the American Le Mans Series and the Rolex Sports Car Series. 2014 was the inaugural season for the TUSCC, with the Corvette coming out on top in both the team championship and manufacturer’s championship. Riding the momentum of a victorious season, this bowtie bruiser just got a refreshed set of bodywork that imitates the swept back, brawny lines of the C7 Stingray. We’ll see all that new composite aero go to work soon as preparations and testing get under way for the Rolex 24 At Daytona in January 2015.
Chevrolet has a long history of sports car and prototype racing when it comes to its halo vehicle. With the new TUSCC series, it appears to be continuing that tradition in triumphant fashion. Can the Corvette hang on to the championship title? We’ll see as we move into 2015. For now, we’re content to give this prototype the nod as one of the sexiest race cars to hit an apex.

Chevrolet has spent a lot of time raising awareness and money to fight breast cancer over the last couple of years. The company is stepping up its efforts in October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with a special NASCAR Pace Car, as well as a series of donations and events.
The car in question is a specially themed pink Chevrolet SS that will be pacing caution laps at two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races during October, including the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway and Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Both events are part of the Chase for the Sprint Cup. The third race included in the program already took place last August in Atlanta. Chevrolet will be donating $250 for each caution lap the pink SS leads in addition to sponsoring at-track survivor events and pace car rides.
What’s more, Chevrolet will donate $10 for every customer who test drives a Chevy at a dealership this month, hoping to help the American Cancer Society raise more than the $1.1 million for the ACS’ Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks and other activities. The funds raised will help the ACS pay for ongoing research, wellness and breast cancer awareness education, as well as support for breast cancer patients and their families.
We understand a pink SS might not tickle your fancy, but don’t forget that taking any Chevrolet out for a test drive will also raise money. Go hoon a 2015 Corvette Stingray for a good cause.

When the checkered flag finally fell at the 2014 Daytona 500 late Sunday night, it was over Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Chevrolet SS-inspired Sprint Cup race car. Earnhardt’s win came after a long day of racing and waiting with several multi-car pile-ups and an excruciating six hour rain delay.
While Earnhardt’s Chevy SS took much of the spotlight, it wasn’t the only SS circling the steep banks at the Great American Race; not considering the other tube-frame SS-look-a-likes trailing behind Jr.’s number 88 car. Pacing the race was the real deal, a 2014 Chevrolet SS modified only with safety strobe lights and Daytona 500 decals.
The SS is powered by GM’s 6.2-liter LS3 V-8 making 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of rear-wheel-spinning torque. A six-speed automatic with paddle shifters sends power to the rear differential sporting a 3.27:1 final drive ratio. Unfortunately, this four-door Camaro isn’t offered with a clutch pedal, but the automatic does allow for fairly quick shifts.
Inside the SS is a cabin showcasing GM’s new-found efforts in interior quality with materials and fit and finish on par with offerings from Cadillac and Buick. Heavily bolstered leather seats, a leather-covered steering wheel, and suede-like material give the car an upscale feel while buttons and controls have a weighted, rich feel to them.
For pacing duties, the SS is fitted with an aerodynamic light bar up top and strobes in the head and taillights. Daytona 500 decals and stripes are stuck to the SS’ Red Hot 2 paint color. Lower profile tires and optional chrome wheels further separate the car from regular production units.
Updated 07/18/2014: Chevrolet announced today that actor Chris Pratt will serve as pace car driver on July 27 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He will drive a 2014 red and silver Chevrolet SS pace car and apparently its a dream come true for him. Of course, the announcement comes with a new set of images of the SS Pace Car, so check them in the "Images" tab.

The 2014 Camaro Z/28 goes on sale this spring at a base price of $75k, but customers who want to see the car in action will have the chance to see the Camaro Z/28.R race car in action this week in a 2.5-hour endurance race ahead of the 52nd Rolex 24 At Daytona that begins Friday, January 24th.
The new Camaro Z/28.R will be built alongside the road-going version Z/28, and it will share the same performance elements from the base Z/28, including the powerful LS7 7.0-liter, V-8 engine that delivers a total of 505 horsepower. Along with this powerful engine, the Z/28.R will be offered with the same helical-gear, limited-slip rear differential found in the production model.
The new Camaro Z/28.R was developed in cooperation with Stevenson Motorsports and CKS Autosport and will enter in the GS class of the IMSA Continental Tires SportsCar Challenge.

Chevrolet has just pulled the covers off its highly anticipated C7.R, the racing version of its new C7 Corvette Stingray. The news falls with the unveiling of the new Corvette Z06, the car the C7.R shares many design and performance attributes with. The two beasts were co-developed to take full advantage of the engineering expertise and technology both versions of the Vette use to succeed.
The C7.R features the same fuel-saving/power-making direct injection technology as the production C7 Z06, though used on a 5.5-liter V-8 instead of the supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 - all mounted to a highly-ridged aluminum frame. Vents, scoops, extractors, wings, and underbody panels all act together in reducing drag and creating down force.
The lessons learned on the race tract with the outgoing C6.R were key in assisting designers and engineers in developing the current C7 and more so the C7 Z06. For more info on the new production model 2015 Corvette Z06, check out TopSpeed’s full coverage.

In what has become somewhat of a tradition for Chevrolet at SEMA, the Bowtie-bearing brand is preparing to introduce a new version of its drag-racing mastodon, the COPO Camaro.
At the 2013 SEMA Auto Show, the COPO program returns with all the design tweaks and modifications given to the 2014 Camaro. This time, the factory-built dragster will immediately hit production with the same 69-unit allocation, making it another must-have Camaro for enthusiasts and drag racers alike.
The 2014 COPO Camaro will also come with a pair of new racing engines, including a revised take on the naturally aspirated 427 engine, as well as a supercharged version of the 350-cubic-inch engine that we first saw tucked comfortably under the hood of the 2013 COPO Camaro. The latter will also receive a 2.9-liter Whipple, screw-type compressor, as if all the mechanical workings done on the engine aren’t enough on their own.
Naturally aspirated 350- and 396-cubic-inch engines are also set to be offered for the 2014 COPO Camaro, giving buyers plenty of options to choose from as far as their preferred engine choice is going to be for their Camaro drag racer.
All 2014 COPO Camaros come standard with an NHRA-approved roll cage and suspension, and feature an exclusive live rear axle.
In somewhat of another similar move, or possibly to drive up the car’s PR-worthiness — as if it needed any — Chevrolet will send the first production COPO Camaro to Barret-Jackson this coming January for the Scottsdale, Arizona Auction. The proceeds from the auction will be sent directly to the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans.
There’s plenty to love about the 2014 COPO Camaro. We’re sure that a lot of people share our sentiments, which is to say that those interested in scooping one up better get their finances in order before all 69 models are accounted for.

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray already has a lot of people from all over the world mesmerized. It’s the kind of once-in-a-lifetimesports car that can thrill anyone and if you’re a fan of GT3 racing, you might be in for a treat because the Corvette Stingray GT3 could will soon be on its way.
There’s still that issue of actually building the car, which is no small feat. But if there’s anybody up to that task, it’s the European distributor for expert Corvette tuning, Callaway.
The company is formally known as Callaway Competition of Germany and it’s going to put its considerable expertise to good use after receiving the green light from Chevrolet to build the Corvette Stingray GT3 race car.
Is this a sign of things to come from Chevy regarding the 2014 GT3 season?
It sure sounds like it because preparing a completely new racecar takes up some time and the timing of this announcement lends credence to the belief that we might actually see the racecar packed and ready for GT3 racing by the time the 2014 season comes around.
Before the car actually hits the track, Callaway is expected to send its design proposal to the FIA for homolgation. As soon as that hurdle’s cleared, then it’s all about the build and the time frame the German aftermarket company has to finish the job.
For now, all we have are Callaway’s renderings of the upcoming racecar, and we can say is that it’s looking mean with its super-low ride height, aggressive front and rear spoilers, the monstrous rear diffuser, and the side-exit exhaust. Stay tuned for more updates as Callaway heads toward building this Stingray racer.

Chevrolet Performance announced today the availability of an NHRA-certified Camaro rolling chassis specially designed for drag racing. Customers will only get the painted body and chassis ready to be finished and they will have to add the engine, transmission and other drivetrain components. The price for the rolling chassis is $55,000 will be put on sale on March 28th, 2013.
If you are interested, Chevrolet can provide you with all the other components needed to finish your car: engine and air inlet system, engine mounts, engine controller and wire harness, exhaust headers, transmission and shifter assembly and driveshaft.
Customers can choose between a 350-cubic-inch engine that delivers a total of at 325 horsepower; a 396-cubic-inch engine with 375 horsepower, and a 427-cubic-inch engine delivering 425 horsepower. The engines offered in the COPO Camaro program are also available
The chassis will be offered with a roll cage, NHRA-approved racing chassis and suspension components. The models will be painted in Summit White and will feature a production Camaro hood and SS grille, production window glass, headlamps, taillights and more. On the interior, Chevrolet will add racing seats, a production-style instrument panel, steering wheel, racing switch panel, door panels, headliner and black carpeting.

The 69 COPO Camaro units that Chevy built in 2012 sold like hot cakes, so the company decided to expand production by another 69 units. For the 2013 model year, the COPO Camaro receives a series of updates, like two all-new engines and a new manual transmission, plus a series of updates made to the exterior and the interior.
Thanks to these changes, the 2013 COPO Camaro will be become even more competitive as it is now eligible for a broader range of NHRA Stock Eliminator classes.
The 2013 COPO Camaro is priced at $86,000 - $3,000 less than the 2012 model year. On March 11, 2013 Chevrolet will start selecting its customers for the 2013 COPO Camaro factory drag-racing cars. As a reminder, more than 3,000 people showed interest in this special version, but only 69 have been selected.

With every NASCAR season, the excitement and thrill rises. To keep up with that, the cars have to be exciting as well. Chevrolet decided to unveil its racecar at a press conference in Las Vegas, so that the Chevy fans that have been eagerly waiting can finally get their fix..
Known as the Chevrolet SS NASCAR, the rear-wheel drive performance racecar will be Chevrolet’s newest entry in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, beginning with the 2013 SpeedWeek in Daytona.
Based on the upcoming, limited edition Chevrolet SS performance sedan, the design gives us some insight on what to expect from the performance sedan visually, when it will debut early next year.
The NASCAR Chevrolet SS is the next in a long line of famed nameplates that Chevrolet has brought to NASCAR. It replaces the sturdy Impala, which scored a total 151 wins from 1959-64 and 2007-12.

Lack of power notwithstanding, it’s damn near close to impossible to not like the Chevrolet Sonic.
As one of Chevrolet’s more popular models, the Sonic has received acclaim for its balanced handling and sporty driving experience, so much so, in fact, that the Bow Tie has jumped right into the increasingly popular B-Spec racing series with their very own Sonic B-Spec Race Car Concept.
Although still a preview of a competition kit for the race car, the Sonic B-Spec Racer is a bonafide pocket Hercules.
Dressed in a Luxor Blue paint finish with matching Monaco Blue graphics, the lightweight Sonic B-Spec Racer comes with a bevy of race spec modifications, particularly on the car’s chassis and suspension. The transformation from production model to full-fledged race car begins with the installation of front strut coil-over assemblies and mounts and rear shock coil-over assemblies and mounts. The car also received adjustable front stabilizer bar links, a rear axle shim kit, an inlet air restrictor, and a recalibrated ECM and EBCM.
Safety features were also added, including a carbon fiber safety seat, a window safety net, five-point racing harnesses, a Monaco Blue-painted roll cage, a center catch net, a quick-release steering wheel/hub system, and a fire extinguisher.
About the only thing disappointing about the Sonic B-Spec Racer Concept, albeit one that’s completely understandable, is the engine. To adhere to regulations, the Sonic Race Car Concept’s 1.8-liter engine remains the same from its stock specifications, although an air restrictor was used to equalize its output with other competitors.
In the end, this little beast is still pretty impressive, something GM US VP of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports Jim Campbell will attest to. “[The] Sonic B-Spec Concept demonstrates the car’s capabilities in the increasingly popular B-Spec subcompact classes in SCCA and Grand Am series,” he said.
“The Sonic’s great balance of power and responsive handling make it a natural on the track – and a formidable competitor.”
Expect the Sonic B-Spec competition kit to hit the sales market in the first quarter of 2013 through Chevrolet Performance retailers.
