Supernatural: 9 Things You Don't Know About Dean Winchester's 1967 Chevy Impala

Supernatural: 9 Things You Don’t Know About Dean Winchester’s 1967 Chevy Impala

It’s probably one of the most famous Hollywood cars of this generation

Supernatural is the longest-running American live-action fantasy TV series. It’s been around since 2005, and this season will be its last. It’s been a hell of a ride — no pun intended — for Sam and Dean Winchester, and the latter’s loyal steed, the “Metallicar.”

That’s the nickname given to the 1967 Chevrolet Impala that has been a part of the show since the beginning. The Impala has become so important to the show’s history that fans even gave it the “Metallicar” nickname. Sure, the show doesn’t revolve around Dean’s ride, but it wouldn’t be the same without it, either. And as most famous Hollywood cars go, there are a few interesting things about the “Metallicar” that you might not know about.

It’s all about cables sticking out through the hood

The 2020 Chevy C8 Corvette has yet to arrive in showrooms, but Chevrolet is already working on new versions of the mid-engined sports car. Watch The Side Curtain Airbags of the 2018 Camaro ZL1 Deploy While Driven on the Track

That didn’t look fun

The Chevrolet Camaro is known for a lot of things, but one of its darker secrets is its strange airbag system that deploys for no reason at all. It’s happened numerous times over the years, including an episode all the way back in 2011 when the airbags on a Camaro SS spontaneously deployed because the muscle car was doing hoons on an empty parking lot. More recently, a 2018 Camaro ZL1 saw a similar fate when its side curtain airbags engaged while the car was being driven on a race track.

Only five models will make their way to the Japanese market

Japan is home to one of the biggest auto industries in the world, so it’s understandable why many automakers send special edition models to the Land of the Rising Sun. Recently, General Motors took its turn gifting Japanese customers with a special edition Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport. The Vette is about as exclusive as they come, at least considering where it’s headed. The limited-run sports car is officially billed as the Grand Sport Admiral Blue Heritage Edition, and like most exclusive cars that come to Japan, it comes with some nifty features that underscore its status as a true special edition.

Needless to say, the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Admiral Blue Heritage Edition isn’t going anywhere else in the world. In fact, even Japanese customers will have to fight over the special edition Corvette as reports indicate Chevrolet will only send over five units, each priced at ¥12.8 million. That converts to roughly $115,000 based on current exchange rates. By comparison, the Corvette Grand Sport starts at $66,445 here in the U.S., so Japanese customers will have to fork over nearly double to get their hands on one. Then again, it is an exclusive Corvette Grand Sport with unique details in the exterior and interior. Having a chance to own one means paying a premium for that opportunity.

2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 The Exorcist by Hennessey

2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 The Exorcist by Hennessey

Say your prayers, Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.

When a tuning company like Hennessey that’s at the top of its game, there aren’t a lot of places to go to when wanting to make an even bigger impression on the industry. But the American tuner seems to have done just that with its latest humdinger of a project. Is it a coincidence that this new turnkey masterpiece to come out of the tuner’s garage is called “The Exorcist?” I don’t think so since the Exorcist is all the things its name says it is. It’s all sorts of heavenly horsepower goodness, or as Hennessey claims, 1,000-horsepower’s worth.

This is the latest madness that Hennessey has come up with. It’s based on the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, a potent iteration of the Camaro line that already packs 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque on its own. None of those numbers matter though when you line it up against the Challenger SRT Demon and its 840-horsepower and 770-pound-feet of torque abilities. But that’s where Hennessey comes in, bringing all sorts of aftermarket equipment to give the Challenger SRT Demon something to really get nervous about. Ultimately, this is what the people who gave us the Venom GT came up with, and if you think The Exorcist is all bark and no bite, well, prepare to be proven wrong.

Ebay Find of the Day: 1962 Chevy C10 Patina Pro Touring Restomod

Ebay Find of the Day: 1962 Chevy C10 Patina Pro Touring Restomod

One hot truck for the street or strip

Restomodding has become extremely popular these last few years, with guys restoring old cars while giving them new life with modern parts. It’s like a Goldilocks special – the best of both worlds wrapped into a single project. A perfect example is this 1962 Chevrolet C10 pickup that’s been completely reworked from bumper to bumper. Now it’s our eBay find of the day.

The truck has been fully restored, complete with a painted ladder frame, custom cargo bed with tubbed wheel wells, and an awesome flat flame red paint job. Black accents help define the C10’s bodylines while breaking up the monotony of the slab sides. Inside, the red color scheme continues with red carpet, a red dash, and red seats. Black accents on the steering wheel, gear shifter, gauge cluster, and seats help pull off the two-tone theme.

Power comes from a 355 cubic-inch small-block Chevy with a Rowdy Thumpr cam from Comp Cams. It’s kept cool with an aluminum radiator and an electronic fan. The engine is decked out with chrome valve covers and a matching air cleaner sitting atop the four-barrel carburetor. The V-8 is mated to an automatic an automatic transmission with a floor shifter. Power, of course, is sent rearward to the fat rear tires. Though the gearing isn’t specifically stated, the listing says the rear end is geared for the highway – likely making this a great cruiser.

The truck rides on a bagged suspension, making the ride height adjustable for the show and for the road. A set of 20-inch, five-spoke wheels ride up front with 22-inchers out back. They come wrapped in high performance rubber. Performance disc brakes up front and new drum brakes out back pull the truck to a stop.

There’s more to this truck, so keep reading for the full details.

2016 Chevrolet Cruze Tron Legacy Edition

2016 Chevrolet Cruze Tron Legacy Edition

One-off showpiece created to promote Disney Shanghai Resort opening

Chevrolet has made its presence felt at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show, but it’s not for the reasons you might think. Sure, SUVs and electric cars have dominated the scene in Auto China, but the American automaker brought one car that’s neither SUV nor electric. You might recognize it as a Chevrolet Cruze and while it is a Cruze for all intents and purposes, it’s actually a one-off, showpiece that’s been inspired by the 2011 movie Tron: Legacy.

Unofficially, it’s called the Chevrolet Cruze Tron Legacy Edition and it’s a product of a collaboration between Chevrolet and The Walt Disney Company China. So what is a car with ties to Mickey Mouse doing in a place like Auto China? It’s actually simple. For those who may be unaware, Disney’s latest theme park – Shanghai Disney Resort – will be making its grand opening on June 16, 2016. For its part, Chevrolet is the official automotive partner of the theme park and so, to commemorate Disney’s latest theme park – and first in China – Chevy and the Walt Disney Company China teamed up to create the Cruze Legacy Tron Edition as a tribute to both Disney itself and the 2011 sci-fi movie.

True to its roots, the Cruze Legacy Tron Edition is littered with styling nods to the iconic light cycles that were used in the movie. The exterior and interior of the Cruze both received the same two-tone, metallic blue on black finish, the same two colors associated to the light cycles. It may not be the most important vehicle that has been showcased in Auto China, but for the purposes of raising awareness and driving up publicity ahead of Disney Shanghai Resort’s highly anticipated opening in June 2016, the Cruze Tron Legacy Edition might as well be the only car of consequence to show up in Beijing.
