Touring Sciàdipersia Pays Tribute To Luxury Travel Of The Past
In case you were unaware, Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera is a legendary Italian design house and bespoke coachbuilder, best known for products like the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante, Bentley Continental Flying Star, and Touring Berlinetta Lusso, among others. Now, Touring is offering a new limited edition custom two-door dubbed the Sciadipersia, bringing superlative European grand touring style as a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the bespoke Maserati 5000 GTs that Touring created for the Shah of Iran back in the ‘50s. The Sciadipersia was “designed to cover long distance with complete ease and in total comfort,” much like the travelers that booked passage on the Orient Express so long ago.

1969 Dodge Coronet Super Bee
The Dodge Coronet was first introduced in 1949 as one of the company’s first post-war body style. Production spanned over four generations until it was discontinued in 1959. The nameplate returned in 1965 on the B-body platform, shared with the Plymouth Belvedere and Road Runner and the Dodge Charger among other Mopar vehicles. The sixth and seventh generations followed in 1971 and 1975, but the Coronet was discontinued for good in 1976. Arguably the most iconic version of the Coronet was that produced between 1968 and 1970 when the nameplate was also involved in Detroit’s muscle car wars.
After three years on the market, the fifth-generation Coronet was redesigned in 1968, as was the Dodge Charger, which shared the B-body platform. The facelift brought a more aggressive design, new appearance packages, and upgraded engines. Dodge even introduced a station wagon version of the Coronet 500, but the star of the lineup was obviously the range-topping Super Bee trim. This version was produced from1968 through 1971 model years only and was Dodge’s version of the successful Plymouth Road Runner.

Amazing Car for Sale: 1971 Dodge Challenger from Quinton Tarantino’s "Death Proof"
Classic cars are absolutely amazing – they are a genuine piece of history, and each one has their own unique story. But, when you find a classic car that’s also a movie car, it’s a completely different ballgame. The history is there, but the storyline is usually crazy, and the value of the car itself can get up there as well. Most movie cars end up destroyed these days, but every now and then, one comes to the surface – and usually with a hefty price tag in tow. Think about the 1970 Dodge Charger R/T from the original Fast and Furious movie. It went on sale back in 2010 for some $130,000. (art97828) This time around, it’s a 1971 Dodge Challenger that’s for sale, and it’s the very car used in Quinton Tarantino’s Death Proof.
As you would expect from a movie car, it is “used,” but don’t fret, a lot of the body damage is actually painted on. It has just 38,965 miles on the clock and is motivated by a 383 Magnum V-8. That’s a 6.3-liter that’s good for 335 horsepower and 425 pound-feet of torque – not much by today’s standards, but it was pretty exceptional for its time. It’s one of only two surviving Challengers from the movie, and despite the way it looks, it’s actually in really good shape with no structural rust and a little wear and tear from use in the movie. It was sold by the production company 10 years ago, and still features the camera mounts underneath, the racing seatbelt mount points, the fake plastic radio, and a support in the trunk that allowed one of the rear wheels to be locked. It also has the typical Hollywood chopped seats to make it easier to see the actors that were in the rear during in-car scenes. Keep reading to learn a little more about it and see more pictures.
This Very Orange 1980 BMW M1 Is Up For Sale For $745K
First put into production in 1978, the BMW M1 was a clear break from convention for the Bavarian automaker. For starters, the M1 was Bimmer’s first and only mass-produced mid-engine production car, a title it held until the release of the i8 hybrid in 2014. The M1 also looks the part of an oddity, sporting an Italian-designed style with a speed wedge configuration. Inside is a tight two-seater cabin, behind which BMW’s M Division mounted a twin-cam 3.5-liter inline six-cylinder engine. Output is measured at 273 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque, all of which is sent to the rear axle by way of a five-speed manual gearbox. All told, the M1 offered solid performance for its day, plus plenty of sexy looks, and with just 453 units produced, a fair amount of exclusivity as well. These are the characteristics that make for a highly desirable collector car, but now, there’s an example for sale in California sporting just 8,441 miles on the odometer. The asking price – $745,000.
Granted, that price isn’t too outrageous, especially when you consider a similar example changed hands last year at Monterey Car Week for $577,500. Factor in a near guarantee that auction prices will continue to rise over the long haul, and this slice of mid-engine history starts to look like a pretty good investment. Sphero Introduces Hyper Realistic Lightning McQueen RC Car
The hype surrounding the return of the Cars franchise to the big screen is real and we’re all getting swept by it. It figures then that with the third installment hitting theaters in June 2017, toy company Sphero is also riding the promotional wave with the introduction of arguably the most realistic Lightning McQueen toy that (real) money can buy.
The toy itself is called “Ultimate Lightning McQueen” and it’s a fitting name for a remote-controlled car that perfectly encapsulates the charismatic protagonist of the Cars animated movie franchise. Not only does the toy capture McQueen’s now-famous red and yellow livery with the traditional functions of a remote-controlled car, it even has its own suspension system and different facial expressions that can be controlled by a companion app that owners can download on their smartphones. These are just a few of the many incredible features of the R/C, which is expected to retail at $300. If that sounds a little too expensive for your pockets, consider that this is the company that previously made a similarly realistic BB-8 droid from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. A lot of you probably remember that because it was on every child’s holiday wish list back in 2015. Good thing then that Christmas is still seven months away, right?

Craving a Trip To the Moon? Take the Edge Off with Lego’s Massive NASA Apollo Saturn V Rocket
We’ve covered a lot of Lego kits in the past – kits like the 1968 Fiat 500, the Ford GT duo, the Caterham Super Seven, and my personal favorite, the Batmobile from the Dark Night trilogy. But, Lego just took things to an all-new level with the introduction of the kit you see here – a 1,969-piece, Apollo Saturn V rocket that stands a staggering three feet tall and comes complete with horizontal stand, three new astronaut figures, a lunar lander, and a command service module. The rocket itself separates into three different stages. You’ll also get a book that includes information about the manned Apollo missions and the fan designers that proposed the original idea through the Lego Ideas website.
So, to put things into perspective, this is a 1:100 scale model, and is the tallest Lego Ideas set ever approved for production. It goes on sale on June 1, 2017, and will set you back just $109.99 – that’s actually a good deal, considering it contains a total of 1,969 pieces. And, in case you didn’t catch it, 1969 is also the year that Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong took their historic trip to the moon, making them the first people to ever travel to and land on another celestial body. And now, almost 50 years later, we can honor their historic trip and the rocket that got them there, with a massive Lego kit. Now, that’s pretty damn cool.
Here’s How You Can Own All 350 Of Ferrari’s 70th Anniversary Special Edition Models
Before any of you start hyperventilating in excitement, there are a few qualifiers to keep note of. The first is that these aren’t the actual special edition cars that Ferrari is planning to roll out as part of its 70th anniversary. These bad boys are 1:8 scale models of the real things and they come from Amalgam Collectibles, the maker of exquisite scale models that have graced these pages a handful of times over the years. Remember the 1:8 versions of the Jaguar E-Type that secretly stole the show at the 2016 Paris Motor Show? Yep, it’s the same company that’s bringing us 350 of these special edition Prancing Horse beauties.
The differentiation among these Ferraris come in the form of liveries, which we also first saw in Paris back in September 2016. All those liveries represented various designs that were pulled from Ferrari’s long and illustrious history, including “The Schumacher,” “The Magnum PI,” and “The Prototype.” All told, Ferrari has 70 unique liveries on offer, all of which will be used on five of the automaker’s current models, including the 488 GTB, 488 Spider, California T, F12 Berlinetta, and the GTC4 Lusso. Do the math and that adds up to 350 different cars, each having their own mini-me versions courtesy of Amalgam Collection.
Needless to say, the scale models come with unparalleled detail. That much we can expect from the same company that brought us those beautiful E-Type scale models in Paris. That said, they don’t come cheap either as each scale model comes with a price tag of $695. If you can stomach that much damage to your wallets, it might be best to pre-order these scale models now ahead of their initial release in July since each of the 350 unique scale models are one-offs.

New Limited-Edition Watch from Omologato Pays Tribute to Porsche 917
A while back I did a piece about what I consider to be the 10 coolest motorsport-inspired watches you can buy. The list included some fine timekeepers, but it looks like I might have to update it to include Omologato’s new, limited-edition timepiece, which pays tribute to the iconic Porsche 917 race car.
Although Omologato isn’t the first company to build a 917-inspired watch — BRM’s BT-12 46 Gulf is pretty neat (and expensive) — this new release pays tribute to the what is arguably the most iconic example of the race car. Not including the Gulf-painted mock-up featured in Steve McQueen’s "Le Mans" movie, that is. Specifically, Omologato’s timepiece takes inspiration from the No. 23 Porsche Salzburg version that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in 1970.
This is visible in the red, while, and black color scheme based on the livery of the actual car, as well as the three small dials. The one on the left is red, the center dial is finish in red with white stripes, just like the car’s front hood, while the one on the right is white and features the famous number 23. The 22mm black Italian leather strap has Guards Red stitching, while the 43mm face comes in a matte-finished frame with chrome accents, and a "917" insignia at the bottom.
The watch is powered by a Japanese Quartz movement of which Omologato says it delivers the "desirable level of precision, reliability and accuracy that only comes with the very best watches." The 917-inspired timepiece is limited to only 200 examples and each will be sold with an ownership certificate, together with a bespoke case. Those who pre-order can choose the number of their watch. Speaking of orders, the timekeeper costs only £339, an affordable sticker given the specifications (also due to the fact that Omologato is a new brand, being established in 2015. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in January 2017.

The Camaro Fifty Driving Shoes are a Must-Have if you Own a 50th Anniversary Camaro
The auto industry has always had a healthy relationship with the world of high-fashion and the latest example of that comes by way of Piloti, the highly-regarded driving shoe maker whose latest offering is a commemorative pair of sneakers that pay homage to the Chevrolet Camaro’s 50th Anniversary. The shoe, officially called the ‘Camaro Fifty’ Limited Edition Piloti, is arguably the closest thing some will get to being a part of the Camaro’s golden anniversary.
Aesthetically, the low-cut shoe is a modified version of one of Piloti’s most famous line of shoes, the Spyder S1. The upper part is predominantly made from mesh and suede and the exclusivity comes into play with its orange and grey color scheme. It also features race-inspired stitching that runs along the opposite ends of the orange shoe laces and an embroidered “Camaro Fifty” logo on the outsole provides the definitive addition that highlight its uniqueness. As a final touch, the Camaro Fifty also has vintage patterned rubber treats that provide the necessary grip that’s required for high-class driving shoes.
While the style is admittedly not for everyone, those who do want to get a pair can now do so through pre-order at chevymall.com for a price of $135. They can also go to Piloti.com and to sellers of Official Chevrolet Licensed Products. Remember though that only 600 pairs are available so get those pre-orders ready before they’re officially shipped out on November 2016.

The Mercedes-Benz 190 EVO II was a homologation special that is very hard to come by these days. The model you see here is from 1990 and is No. 55 of just 500 made that year. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen one for sale, but with the ridiculous import laws here in the U.S., these beauties are just starting to make it into onto American soil. Originally aimed at BMW’s E30 M3 EVO, it was the most powerful iteration of a Mercedes’ E-Series at the time. And by power, I’m talking about a 2.50liter Cosworth engine that delivered some 232 horsepower to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.
Other features include hydraulic suspension, bolstered seats in the front and rear, and a lap timer for those who really like to hit the track on the weekend. As you can see, the car is rather aggressive compared to the standard E-Series at the time. What I like to call old-school styling, the car featured a sporty front fascia, wide fender flares in the front and rear, attractive side skirts, and a simple, but well-defined rear fascia. Plus, there’s that massive spoiler on the rear that is visual proof that this Mercedes doesn’t exactly play nicely with others.
If those performance numbers don’t sound that impressive to you, I feel bad for you son. But, I’ll put things into perspective for you a little bit. With 232 horsepower, this beast of a Mercedes could hit 62 mph in 7.1 seconds and reach a top speed of a shocking (not) 155 mph. Now, considering Mercedes entry-level CLA 250 of today comes with 208 horsepower on tap, I can understand your confusion, but back then this was a big deal as it was one of the fastest saloons of the early ‘90s. If it helps, the 1990 Chevy Camaro came with just 210 horsepower from a 5.7-liter V-8 in Iroc-Z trim.
Anyway, back to the car at hand, this specific model has just 29,852 miles on the clock and is currently owned by a collector in NYC. That collector purchased it from the original owner in France and imported it into the U.S. It is all original, rust free, and went through recent maintenance just 11,000 miles ago. The steering wheel has been replaced with a period-correct and rare AMG wheel that was used on the DTM race cars. The stock steering wheel does come with the car when purchased along with an original Becker retrofitted with an iPod cable in the glove box, all original tools, original spare tire, original emergency medical kit, and a maintenance book. The listing for this car still has two days left as of the time of this writing with the current bid at 144,100. The unknown reserve has not been met, but the car will likely go for somewhere in the range of $200,000 to $230,000.
Ebay Find of the Day: 1962 Chevy C10 Patina Pro Touring Restomod
Restomodding has become extremely popular these last few years, with guys restoring old cars while giving them new life with modern parts. It’s like a Goldilocks special – the best of both worlds wrapped into a single project. A perfect example is this 1962 Chevrolet C10 pickup that’s been completely reworked from bumper to bumper. Now it’s our eBay find of the day.
The truck has been fully restored, complete with a painted ladder frame, custom cargo bed with tubbed wheel wells, and an awesome flat flame red paint job. Black accents help define the C10’s bodylines while breaking up the monotony of the slab sides. Inside, the red color scheme continues with red carpet, a red dash, and red seats. Black accents on the steering wheel, gear shifter, gauge cluster, and seats help pull off the two-tone theme.
Power comes from a 355 cubic-inch small-block Chevy with a Rowdy Thumpr cam from Comp Cams. It’s kept cool with an aluminum radiator and an electronic fan. The engine is decked out with chrome valve covers and a matching air cleaner sitting atop the four-barrel carburetor. The V-8 is mated to an automatic an automatic transmission with a floor shifter. Power, of course, is sent rearward to the fat rear tires. Though the gearing isn’t specifically stated, the listing says the rear end is geared for the highway – likely making this a great cruiser.
The truck rides on a bagged suspension, making the ride height adjustable for the show and for the road. A set of 20-inch, five-spoke wheels ride up front with 22-inchers out back. They come wrapped in high performance rubber. Performance disc brakes up front and new drum brakes out back pull the truck to a stop.

1962 Shelby 260 Cobra "CSX 2000"
If you ask any car enthusiast the name of the person who has been the most influential to the automotive world, nine times out of ten you’ll get the answer “Carroll Shelby.” And, rightfully so – Carroll Shelby had an amazing automotive legacy. And, that legacy all started out with the car you see here: a 1962 Shelby Cobra CSX 2000. While all early Cobras are special in their own right, this one is excessively special because it was the first Cobra built. Ever. It came to be at the hands of Carroll Shelby and a few other people in a small garage in California.
There’s a lot more to this specific Cobra, though. See, this Cobra was built by Carroll Shelby and was owned solely by him. Furthermore, there is a funny story behind it. When the car was complete, it was shown at a number of different venues used by the motoring press and used for testing and development. The funny part is that Shelby had the world convinced that Cobra production was running at full force when in fact the CSX 2000 was the only Cobra at the time. To pull this off, the car was repainted prior to most appearances to give the illusion that there was more than just one for the first seven months of its existence.
With that said, this specific Cobra is ready to go home with a new owner and is being auctioned off by RM Sotheby’s in Monterey in August of 2016. It is being offered by the Carroll Hall Shelby Trust and, as such, should come with proof of authenticity. The car isn’t exactly in the best condition it has ever been in – there is definitely wear here and there. But, that is a part of the car’s history. So, let’s take a good look at it before it goes under the hammer in a couple of months.

Can’t Afford a Bugatti Veyron? You Could Get These TMB Art Metal Cufflinks Instead

The wheels are crafted out of bronze to give a gold appearance, but can also be had in chrome black to offer a different, but equally gorgeous look. Soberanes Fires Continue To Burn, Monterey Car Week Undeterred
With the 66th annual Monterey Car Week kicking off in a few days, some 85,000 auto enthusiasts are expected to arrive on the central California coast to take part in various car shows, auctions, racing events, and cruises. However, attendees will need to share the road with the 5,000 firefighters currently battling a devastating wildfire located just south of Monterey.
One of the biggest issues is access to Highway 1, the main artery that runs north to south through the central coast. With the huge increase in traffic expected for MCW, concerns are being raised over whether or not firefighters will be able to get to and from the frontlines.
However, according to a report from local NBC affiliate KSBW, Cal Fire and the California Highway Patrol have given the event the go-ahead, and are working with organizers to make sure firefighting efforts aren’t hampered.
Some of the changes include a truncated route for the Tour d’Elegance, a classic car cruise that traditionally includes a run south into Big Sur. This year, the route has been shortened to 35 miles, rather than the usual 70. There will also be stricter parking enforcement, and additional law enforcement in high-traffic areas.
So far, the Soberanes wildfire has burned more than 70,000 acres and destroyed 57 homes. Hundreds of locals have been forced to flee, and the fire has been blamed for three injuries and one fatality. Acting Governor Tom Torlakson has declared a state of emergency in Monterey County.
Thankfully, the majority of the firefighting effort is now centralized south of Monterey, and it’s expected that the increase in traffic won’t have a major impact on firefighting efforts.
“We feel pretty comfortable that we are able to get in and out of the areas that we need to in case of emergency,” Cal Fire Capt. Mark Edria told KSBW.

2016 Jeep Wrangler 75th Salute Concept
July 15 is an important date in Jeep history. In fact, it was on this date in 1941 that the U.S. government awarded Willys-Overland Motor Company the contract to build the Willy MB. Now, 75 years later, Jeep is celebrating by building a one-off Wrangler configured to look like its grandfather. This modern take on the original will roll off the same assembly line as the MB (minus the modernization and robots, of course), making the occasion even more sentimental.
“We are creating this unique Jeep Wrangler 75th Salute concept vehicle in celebration of the brand’s legendary history, and to demonstrate that 75 years later, today’s iconic Jeep Wrangler is instantly recognizable and clearly connected to the original Willys MB,” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA Global. “Since they were first produced in 1941, Jeep vehicles have been the authentic benchmark for off-road capability, having mastered more terrain, led more adventures and provided drivers more freedom than any other vehicle before or since.”
Manley is certainly right about the Jeep (and more specifically, the Wrangler) being the benchmark for off-road capability. Think about it – what over vehicle has remained so true to its original roots for more than 70 years? Not many. If fact, there are very little modifications needed to make this 2016 Wrangler look like a 1941 Willys MB. Let’s dive into the details below.

1967 Import Values On the Rise: 1967 Toyota 2000GT Misses $800k Reserve at Mecum Auction
Toyota Motor Corp recently caught wind that a privately owned 1967 Toyota 2000GT would be up for auction at the 2016 Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, Florida. The pristine coupe had a chance at breaking the record for the most expensive Asian car sold at auction – a record set in 2013 with another 2000GT going for a staggering $1.16 million. To catch the action, I was invited down to watch the gavel fall.
That staggering value comes in part to the 2000GT’s low build numbers, its hand-built nature, and its rich heritage. Only 351 units were ever built, of that, only 62 were left-hand drive, built for shipment to the United States. When new, the 2000GT was expensive, selling for roughly $6,000 in 1967, however values had tripled within a decade. Pristine examples were selling for more than $18,000 by the late 1970s, securing the 2000GT’s future as a collectible.
The 2000GT got its start with Toyota decided to compete with high-strung European cars like the Jaguar E-Type and Porsche 901. Elsewhere in Japan, Yamaha was working with Nissan to build a four-cylinder sports car called the A550X. Yamaha had significant investments tied into the car when Nissan decided to cancel its portion of the build, leaving Yamaha in the cold. The company, which is also known for making professional-grade musical instruments, took its sports car idea to Nissan’s main rival, Toyota, which immediately embraced the extra help.

Cars can get expensive; most folks know that. There’s maintenance, spare parts, and of course, the purchase price wrapped into the ball of car ownership. But then there’s a league above – the elite upper echelon of car ownership that transcends all besides collectability. At this level, such blue chip iron is acquired for its rarity, beauty, and historical value rather than its role as transportation.
The data nerds over at Priceonomics decided to assemble a list of the top 50 most expensive vehicles ever sold at auction. Why at auction? Well, it’s nearly impossible to track private sales, and a large percentage of high-dollar cars tend to trade hands under the gavel at places like RM Auctions and Barrett-Jackson.
Even the most seasoned gear head cultured in classic cars might be taken aback by the appreciation in value cars posses as opposed to other common collectibles. Over a 10-year period, the value application of key automobiles have surpassed watches, jewellery, wine, art, coins, and stamps. Surprisingly enough, stamps have the next highest growth in value, topping some 250 percent in appreciation. Cars, on the other hand, outshined stamps by a whopping 200 percent, resulting in an increase in value greater than 450 percent over values in 2005.

Ferrari’s planned initial public offering later this month will result in a number of things for the high-end car manufacturer, one of which would be the company’s desire to ramp up production from about 7,000 units to around 9,000 units annually by 2019, representing a 30 percent increase.
The storied automaker is expected to begin trading next week at the New York Stock Exchange where it plans to sell 17,175,000 shares to the public as part of its planned spin-off from Fiat Chrysler. Share are expected to be priced at around $48 to $52 each. Financial underwriters like UBS and Bank of America will also have the option to sell an addition 1,717,150 shares. If the company times the IPO market correctly – something that’s not a certainty in the current stock market climate – the company walk away from the shares sale with a value of as much as $9.8 billion.
On the surface, the decision appears to be sound if the company is serious about its plans to increase production in response to what it says is a “growing demand in emerging markets.” It’s what any other company would do if it were in the same situation.
But Ferrari’s a different case altogether because it’s not just any other company. A big part of its reputation as the most desirable supercar manufacturer in the world is its exclusivity. Not everyone can own a Ferrari and even those who do have the financial capacity to buy its models often have to wait as much as a year to get the car. Making these models more accessible to the market could be interpreted as the company losing that halo on its head that endeared it to Ferrari buyers and collectors in the first place.
For its part, Ferrari doesn’t seem to be concerned with the perceived backlash that will come with the IPO and its intention to ramp up production by 30 percent. The company believes that it will still retain its “exclusive” status; it just wants to address the growing demand for its cars, something this public offering can do. It even said as much in its filing, stating that it plans to maintain its reputation of exclusivity and scarcity by “deliberately monitoring and maintaining [its] production volumes and delivery wait times to promote this reputation."

You might think buying an old rally car is just for wealthy collectors who want to brag to their rich friends, but you’d be wrong – this particular example can be had for less than the price of a new VW Golf.
Believe it or not, this garage-kept Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 is currently up for sale with an asking price of just 18,000 euros ($20,200). It’s been completely restored over the last 10 years, and it’s only had two previous owners. It also comes with all the original documentation and road registration.
Originally produced in 1985, this small racer is equipped with a 1.8-liter engine mounted in the rear for better weight distribution and improved handling. The exterior is in mint condition, and includes body graphics, rear privacy glass, side air intakes, and an old-school wheel design. The interior doesn’t look half bad either, with a 3-spoke steering wheel, water and oil gauges in the middle of the dashboard, and that all-important roll cage to keep you safe. The front trunk houses a spare wheel.
