2021 Chevrolet Silverado HD Carhartt Special Edition

2021 Chevrolet Silverado HD Carhartt Special Edition

Chevy mixes the Heavy Duty name with a heavy duty special edition truck

Unveiled at the 2019 SEMA Show, the 2021 Silverado HD Carhartt Special Edition is, in fact, the road-going, street-legal offspring of the Silverado 2500 HD Carhartt concept car shown back in 2016. Only this time, you will be able to actually get one from your Chevy dealership, provided you show enough patience to wait until the fall of 2020 when deliveries are slated to kick off.

Details are scarce for the time being and the 12-month waiting window is certainly far from appealing, but there are plenty of reasons to jump for joy. The Silverado HD Carhartt Special Edition is based on the Silverado 2500 LTZ, which means that in theory, it should be available with a V-8 engine. The only question is which one, as Chevy is offering a choice of two V-8s for the LTZ: a 5.3-liter and a 6.2-liter.

2018 McLaren 720S Track Theme

MSO is at it again with another sick custom job on the McLaren 720S

McLaren’s MSO division is responsible for some of the most mouth-watering creations we’ve seen in recent memory, and it looks like MSO isn’t done, judging, at least, by a pair of new special-edition models, one of which is called the 720S Track Theme. In keeping with MSO’s tradition of going all-out with its projects, the 720S Track Theme gets a smorgasbord of new features and options, all of which have been added to add an extra touch of exclusivity on what is already an exclusive supercar.

2017 Abarth 695 Rivale

2017 Abarth 695 Rivale

Special edition Abarth 695 joins the 695 Rivale 175 Anniversary in honoring yacht-maker’s long and storied history

The Abarth 500 has been on the receiving end of some interesting special edition models in the past. We’ve seen the Abarth 695 Biposto Record, the 595 Yamaha Factory Racing Edition, and the 500 Track Experience, among others. None of them, though, can lay claim to the title of being the “most sophisticated Abarth ever.” That distinction, according to Abarth itself, now rests on the shoulders of the 695 Rivale Special Edition.

Developed specifically to celebrate the company’s close ties to yacht maker Riva, the 695 Rivale is the physical embodiment of the premium luxury that goes into the craft of building those sea vessels. Safe to say, that “most sophisticated Abarth ever” title fits the 695 Rivale. It’s inundated with aesthetic features that shine a big spotlight on the nautical theme of the compact car. Inside and out, the 695 Rivale is decked to the brim with luxury, the kind you expect from any one of the yachts that Riva has built in its 175-year history. The special edition Abarth 695 doesn’t pack any power or performance upgrades, but that’s an inconsequential omission when you compare it to the quantity and quality of cosmetic additions given to the hot hatch. There’s no word yet on how many models Abarth plans to build of the 695 Rivale, but another special edition model, the Abarth 695 Rivale 175th Anniversary, is limited to just 350 units, divided into 175 units for the coupe model and another 175 for the cabriolet version.

Update 02/21/2018: Our friend Cyril stopped by a showroom in Paris and snapped a few shots of the Abarth 695 Rivale. Check them out in the gallery below!

2018 Ford F-22 F-150 Raptor

2018 Ford F-22 F-150 Raptor

Truck auctions for $300,000 to benefit youth in aviation

Ford Performance created a one-off F-150 Raptor styled after the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor fighter jet for a charity auction benefiting kids’ interest and participation in flying. Called the Gathering of Eagles, the annual event is hosted by the Experimental Aircraft Association. This year, the auction raised $300,000 thanks to Ford’s donation of the “F-22 Raptor.” The truck obviously takes its name and styling cues from America’s premier fighter, going so far as to incorporate the jet’s silhouette into its grille and side mirrors. But that just scratches the surface of what Ford did to this 2018 F-150 Raptor Crew Cab.

The Raptor boasts a Whipple intercooler and other performance upgrades on its high-output, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6, giving it an impressive 545 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque – a healthy improvement over its stock 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of twist. The bodywork received carbon fiber fender flairs, custom LED lighting, power-deploying running boards, an aggressive wheel and tire package, and that silver-over-black paint job. These, combined with other upgrades, helped the truck garner a $300,000 winning bid, beating out last year’s winning bid of $295,000 for a P-51D Mustang-themed 2017 Ford Shelby GT350 called Ole Yeller. Making the winning bid more special – it was from Gary Ackerman of Gaudin Ford in Las Vegas. Ackerman serves as Honorary Commander and Ambassador for the U.S. Air Force’s F-22 Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.

2017 Pagani Zonda Riviera

2017 Pagani Zonda Riviera

Another Pagani Zonda F is reborn into a spectacular one-off creation

They say that fine art speaks incredible stories while sitting still as people look at them. In a lot of ways, the Pagani Zonda is the farthest thing from fine art, particularly that it doesn’t do well in an idle state. Then again, the Zonda is also, in other ways, the epitome of fine art. It’s limited nature and exotic qualities make it precious in a lot of eyes. And as far as the stories it tells, well, let’s just say they make for good conversations. Take this particular Zonda for example. It’s now called the Zonda Riviera, but it didn’t always carry the name. Once upon a time, it was a Zonda F, and in the decade that’s been alive, it’s been through quite a lot for a car of its stature.

It does seem a little odd that we’re seeing another Zonda get reimagined as a new model only a week after seeing another of its kind, the Zonda Fantasma Evo, go through the same treatment. These events do speak of the age of the model and the fact that it’s been 12 years since Pagani rolled out the Zonda F means that we’re likely to see more of them in the near future. For now, though, the Zonda Riviera takes center stage, as the Zonda Fantasma Evo did last week. it doesn’t quite have an eventful story as Fantasma Evo - that one literally came back from a crash - but it does have a tale or two in its pocket, as most Pagani Zonda Fs that have aged rather nicely will tell us.

2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 S By Posaidon

2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 S By Posaidon

Care for four-digit levels of horsepower in your Mercedes-AMG saloons?

There may be a new-generation Mercedes-AMG E63 S in town now, but just because that’s the case, that doesn’t mean the previous-generation model will just fade out into the sunset. Noted Mercedes tuner Posaidon seems to think that there’s still some untapped potential left in the “old” AMG E63 S, and like any tuner worth its salt, Posaidon set about unlocking it with a new program that delivers a staggering 1,090 horsepower, more than what today’s lineup of hypercars are capable of.

Wrap your heads around that number for a second. 1,090 horsepower for the Mercedes-AMG E63 S. Sure, the mid-sized performance saloon is capable of handling that much power, but not without a lot of help, or at least in this case, a bigger engine up front. That’s the scope of what Posaidon has done. Not to mention the work Posaidon put in, which speaks to the kind of upgrades it’s offering for the Merc-AMG. It’s admittedly not for everyone, but for those who prefer supercar-levels of power out of the E63 S beauties, the German tuner’s power offering is about as high as it’s going to get. And in case it’s a little too out of reach for a customer’s sensibilities, Posaidon does have other options on the menu, specifically upgrades that “only” bring out 850 and 920 horsepower, respectively. I suppose the output numbers, in this case, are relative, but then again, even an 850-horsepower AMG E63 S is going to be a whirlwind to drive.

2017 Porsche 911 Turbo S Blue Arrow by Edo Competition

2017 Porsche 911 Turbo S Blue Arrow by Edo Competition

German tuner gets serious on Porsche’s resident superstar

Just in case it isn’t abundantly clear by now, the Porsche 911 Turbo S is a legend. It’s regarded as one of the most iconic models in history, as it has been ever since it was launched in the market 54 years ago. The sports car’s appeal is unlikely to lose its luster anytime soon, and it’s that particular timeless quality about it that has made the 911 such a popular model in the aftermarket tuning circle. The current-generation 911 has seen its fair share of programs from tuning heavyweights like TechArt, TopCar, and Gemballa. Now it’s edo competition’s turn to get in on the action and the German tuner didn’t disappoint with a 675-horsepower creation called the 911 Turbo S Blue Arrow.

It’s a fancy name for a fancy tuning program for a fancy sports car. It also happens to be potent beyond words, not to mention capable of achieving incredible amounts of speed and power that fits into the performance legacy of the Porsche 911. It’s fitting, too, that this program comes from edo competition, the same tuner that’s responsible for some of the most impressive tuning creations in history. Remember what it did to the Ferrari Enzo all those years ago? I don’t expect this creation for the 911 Turbo S to match that in power and performance, but I do know that it doesn’t need to. The Porsche 911 Turbo S is its own unicorn, and edo competition did it a solid by sprinkling its pixie dust all over it.

1965 Ford F-250 Six-Pack – An ICON Reformer Project

1965 Ford F-250 Six-Pack – An ICON Reformer Project

This rare Ford gets a frame-off restoration and Cummins power

Imagine having a vintage crew cab pickup with all the style and flair from a bygone era in design mixed with modern mechanicals and creature comforts, all capped with a outright obsessive level of detail crafted from the finest materials available. That’s exactly what we’re seeing here. This 1965 Ford F-250 Six-Pack is the newest member of ICON’s Reformer series of builds. Its outward appearance looks properly vintage, but its body hides a 5.9-liter Cummins turbodiesel and Dodge 3500 underpinnings.

ICON has made its quite a name for itself over the years building custom vehicles based on vintage iron. The scope ranges from the “Derelict” series that puts modern mechanicals under an almost untouched, original body with its beautiful patina still intact to high-end Bronco and FJ restorations that are far superior to their factory-fresh condition. The California-based independent company will field nearly any customer request, regardless of difficulty, so far as their bank account will allow. That is clearly on display with this 1965 Ford pickup. You’ll definitely want to see the details in our full review.

Nissan Titan XD PRO-4X Project Basecamp

Built with self-sustaining gear to impresses the overlanding community

Overlanding is growing from a niche market to the mainstream thanks to years of support from aftermarket manufacturers and the trendy idea of off-the-grid vacations. Nissan is tapping into the segment with this one-off custom Titan XD pickup designed to showcase the upgradability of the Titan XD with more than 60 aftermarket parts and accessories. The truck debuted at the 2017 Overland Expo West outside Flagstaff, Arizona where thousands gathered for the latest in overlanding gear.

The Cummins-powered Titan XD’s most prominent modifications include steel bumpers, fender flares, six-spoke wheels wrapped in 35-inch all-terrain Nitto tires, and the large cargo rack in the bed complete with a foldout tent. 2017 BMW M3 GT2 S Hurricane by G-Power

2017 BMW M3 GT2 S Hurricane by G-Power

Super popular sports coupe gets retrofitted with a monster tuning kit

Out of sight, out of mind. That’s a prevailing theme among forgettable cars in the auto industry. But every so often, a car captivates the business to no end that people have a hard time keeping them away from their memory palaces. The previous-generation BMW M3 counts as one of those vehicles. At one point, Automobile even described it in reverence on the level of how a four-year-old treats Santa Claus. It’s safe to say that the E92 BMW M3 will remain relevant for a long time and we can all look to the aftermarket tuning scene as a big contributor in keeping the last of the M3 coupes’ spirit alive. G-Power counts itself in this group and it even has a new tuning kit for the “old” M3 that pops the coupe’s power all the way up to a staggering 709 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque.

Officially, the German tuner calls its creation the M3 GT2 S Hurricane. It’s a nod to the old Hurricane programs that the E92 M3 was treated to when it was making hay as one of the best performance coupes in the world. It’s good to know then that even if the M3 coupe has been out of commission for three years now, owners of the model still have the opportunity to turn their prized M3s into certified rockets on four wheels. That’s exactly what this new Hurricane program is all about. It may not be for everybody, but for M3 owners who prefer to tap into the coupe’s full potential (with the aid of an engine swap), the GT2 S Hurricane program from G-Power is a good key that can help unlock it and more.

2016 Sensuale

2016 Sensuale

The hand-built beauty that is inspired by 60s Motorsports

The way Nicola Soprano sees things is that if you own a Ferrari 250 GTO or a Ferrari P4 you don’t really want to drive them on the street every day. So, Soprano sat down with a pen and a napkin and designed the car you see here – the Sensuale Prototype. To be quite honest, the car is pretty awesome and well thought out. It features a vintage Ferrari engine, a tubular steel chassis, and a hand-formed aluminum body, among other things. And, even more importantly, the car has its own unique style.

In an interview at the 2016 McCall Motorworks Revival, Mr. Soprano said, “The car is extraordinary in every respect. That’s what the name suggests. It’s sensual to drive and is equally as fun, not only to look at but to drive. That’s what it was designed to be.”

Despite the fact that the car looks complete, it is a prototype, and Soprano himself has said that the work is never really done. His inspiration came from classic Italian design of 1960s motorsports, which explains the gorgeous look and feel of this car. So, with that said, let’s take a good look at the Sensuale and talk about all the fine details that make this car a true one-of-a-kind.

2016 Mazda Miata "Indy" ND V-8

2016 Mazda Miata "Indy" ND V-8

The craziest Miata, and the first ND to have a V-8 crammed under the hood

The word “Miata” means different things to different people. To Mazda, it stands for complete success, since the MX-5 has always been one of the best-selling two-seaters ever made. To those of us who love to do the impossible, the word Miata immediately invokes visions of any crazy mod we can conceptualize without having an aneurysm. The Miata has long been a favorite go-to for harnessing lots of power in a little package, but the guys over at Flyin’ Miata are taking things to a whole new level with the fourth-generation model.

Just released for the 2016 model year, there really haven’t been too many intense builds of the ND Miata – until now. Apparently, the ND you see here was sitting on a lift with no heart to speak of, when the guys at Flyin’ Miata decided to cram their plastic, V-8 test block under the hood. To their surprise, it fit, and their newest project got underway. It’s not the first Miata to undergo a V-8 conversion, but it is the first ND-gen model to obtain such a transplant.

According to the second entry of the project diary on Flyin’ Miata’s website, the ND-gen model actually requires less modification to the chassis than the previous NA- and NB-gen models. But, before I got too much into that, let’s take a look at the car these guys have put together and talk a little about it.

2016 Jeep Wrangler 75th Salute Concept

2016 Jeep Wrangler 75th Salute Concept

This one-off Jeep rolled off the assembly 75 years after the U.S. ordered the first Willys MB

July 15 is an important date in Jeep history. In fact, it was on this date in 1941 that the U.S. government awarded Willys-Overland Motor Company the contract to build the Willy MB. Now, 75 years later, Jeep is celebrating by building a one-off Wrangler configured to look like its grandfather. This modern take on the original will roll off the same assembly line as the MB (minus the modernization and robots, of course), making the occasion even more sentimental.

“We are creating this unique Jeep Wrangler 75th Salute concept vehicle in celebration of the brand’s legendary history, and to demonstrate that 75 years later, today’s iconic Jeep Wrangler is instantly recognizable and clearly connected to the original Willys MB,” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA Global. “Since they were first produced in 1941, Jeep vehicles have been the authentic benchmark for off-road capability, having mastered more terrain, led more adventures and provided drivers more freedom than any other vehicle before or since.”

Manley is certainly right about the Jeep (and more specifically, the Wrangler) being the benchmark for off-road capability. Think about it – what over vehicle has remained so true to its original roots for more than 70 years? Not many. If fact, there are very little modifications needed to make this 2016 Wrangler look like a 1941 Willys MB. Let’s dive into the details below.

Update 07/18/2016: Jeep released a short video showing the Wrangler Salute Concept rolling off the assembly line. There are also interviews with Jeep executives and assembly line workers on the deep meaning this one-off Jeep carries.
