David Brown Automotive Speedback Silverstone Edition Gives Everyone A Lesson Of Design Well Done
Founded in 2013, David Brown Automotive is one of the newest carmakers in the United Kingdom. But, unlike mainstream manufacturers like Jaguar, Mini, and even Aston Martin and Bentley, David Brown works as an authentic coachbuilder, assembling its cars the way Morgan has been doing it for 100 years. The automaker’s only vehicle to date, the Speedback GT, is also heavily based on classic grand tourers, sporting an Aston Martin-inspired body bolted on modern Jaguar underpinnings. It’s been four years since David Brown Automotive launched the Speedback GT, and the British firm introduced a new version of the coupe at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.
In case you were wondering, David Brown Automotive is a U.K.-based manufacturer of high-end, limited-run luxury cars. Founded only two years ago, DBA currently has only one model in its lineup, the Speedback GT, which is a hand-built two-door that promises to provide classic styling, modern comforts and amenities, strong performance, exclusivity, and coachbuilder-style customization. With a successful public debut in Monaco last year, the Speedback will now head to the U.S. at the end of the summer to entice deep-pocketed buyers looking for an expensive dose of British motoring goodness.
“It’s been a fantastic year for Speedback GT since its launch,” said company founder and CEO David Brown. “Having had such a warm reception at a number of world-leading shows in Europe, it is a natural progression to bring the car to an American audience, where we’re sure there will be plenty of fans. We have already received a lot of enquiries asking when we would be bringing the car over so we’re really excited to finally be making the journey across.”
The car will first appear at the Quail Lodge in California during the Pebble Beach Automotive week in August. The Speedback will be initially seen at the Quail Rally Welcome on the 10th, followed by participation in the Rally on the 11th and 12th before finally going on display for the main event on the 14th.
“The Quail is the ideal venue to exhibit Speedback GT, with its luxurious, elegant, classic setting that encapsulate the car’s virtues and is full of true car enthusiasts,” Brown said.

Sir David Brown is a name that is recognizable to many auto enthusiasts. After all, this is the man who bought Aston Martin after World War II and created the automaker we know today. Now there is a new David Brown entering the automotive world, but he has no relation to the man from Aston. This new David Brown is starting his own automotive company, David Brown Automotive, and he is releasing his own luxurious GT Coupe to steal the hearts, minds and wallets of the world. David Brown has teamed up with former Jaguar Land Rover designer to create a car dubbed the Speedback GT. The car was revealed this spring at the Top Marques Show in Monaco, and it looks incredible. The car is built on the chassis of a Jaguar XKR, and the body holds a special nostalgic appeal that harkens back to the 60s. The cars are all built by hand using traditional coachwork techniques, and so each one will be just slightly different and unique. Currently there are only plans to manufacture 100 of these rolling pieces of art.
With an aluminum shell, and a supercharged V-8, this machine is sure to have the speed to match its looks.
