The 2014 Dodge Durango Special Service Vehicle returns with some new and updated features that help it fight crime, fires, or whatever else you can throw at it. Available for police, fire, and general fleet customers, the full-size SUV offers best-in-class power and an array of new dashboard gadgetry that includes TFT and touch screen displays.
Offered with either the 3.6-liter, Pentastar V-6 or the 5.7-liter, HEMI V-8, the Durango SSV comes with Chrysler’s new eight-speed, rotary-dial-controlled, transmission. Both engines lay down impressive stats, but on opposite ends of the spectrum. The V-6 is estimated to get 25 mpg and have a range of 600 miles; meanwhile, the HEMI can tow 7,400 pounds.
Expecting the Durango SSV would get abused, Dodge outfits them with heavy-duty brakes, heavy-duty battery, a larger-output 220-amp alternator, heavy-duty water pump, engine oil cooler, and a load-leveling suspension. Other options include skid plates on AWD models, backup camera, tow package, engine block heater and Uconnect.
All SSV Durangos have their third row seats removed for added cargo room, and come with extra under-floor storage compartments. Illuminating the interior is a red and white dome lamp while the outside gets the Durango’s standard LED daytime running lamps and rear ‘race track’ taillights. It also comes prewired for an A-pillar spotlight.
Standard Electronic Stability Control, electronic roll mitigation, Hill-start Assist, Trailer-sway Control, Rain Brake Support, and Ready Alert Braking help keep the Durango’s shiny side up while chasing perps and putting out fires.
Dodge is taking orders for the 2014 Durango SSV and production is already underway at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit.

Anchorman 2’s Ron Burgundy is rocking a new Durango R/T in the latest set of hilarious ads from Dodge.
There’s a whole series of ads featuring Burgundy tell us what makes the Durango such a special ride. In addition to boasting a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine that delivers a total of 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque, Burgundy also touts the Durango’s standard ‘thermoplastic’ glovebox door.
Ron calculates the standard dashboard cubby’s size and versatility. The glovebox boasts of a 0.1 cubic feet of storage, a 12-volt light bulb, and can comfortably fits two turkey sandwiches.
Only Ron Burgundy can deliver the 1980s gameshow feel of Anchorman 2, in theaters this winter.

We knew that Dodge would be offering an updated version of its Durango SUV at the 2013 New York Auto Show for quite some time now, but today the redesigned Durango SUV has been officially unveiled in the Big Apple.
Just two years removed from its re-introduction onto the market, Durango received a series of updates that made the ultimate "no compromise" SUV even better. Numerous changes have been made in order to update the SUV’s design, capability and functionality, but the most impressive feature is the addition of the new eight-speed automatic transmission - a first for its market segment.
The 2014 Dodge Durango will be put on sale in the third quarter of 2013. Customers will have to choose between five trim levels, each offering a different level of customization: SXT, Rallye, Limited, R/T and Citadel.

Updated 08/14/2013: Dodge announced today prices for the 2014 Durango SUV that will arrive at U.S. dealerships later this year. The 2014 Durango has a base price of $29,795.

Dodge is expanding its Blacktop lineup with the addition of a new special edition based on the Durango. The new Durango Blacktop Edition is based on the Rallye and the R/T trim levels, and adds $295 to the SUV’s total price.
The model can be ordered in Bright White, Brilliant Black, Granite Crystal, Billet Silver and Redline Red, and is combined with a distinctive gloss-black crosshair grille and gloss-black 20-inch aluminum wheels with gloss-black center caps.
For the interior, the Blacktop models receive premium Digital Suede seat inserts complemented by Capri bolsters and red accent stitching. A power 12-way driver’s seat with power lumbar is available for an additional $595.
Under the hood, the Durango keeps the usual 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine that delivers a total of 295 horsepower on the Rallye models and a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine that produces a hefty 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque on the R/T versions.
The Dodge Durango has never really been one of the most popular SUVs in the market. Sometimes we automotive media even tend to forget it’s around. But the Durango certainly has its own group of enthusiasts that love them and buy a new one every few years, and rightfully so. The Durango has recently morphed into one of the better looking body-on-frame SUVs available, as well as one of the most utilitarian SUVs remaining on the market.
All of that aside, Dodge and parent company, Fiat, have decided that the Durango has run its course and it’s time for it to ride off into the sunset. There is no need to mourn its death, as its axing will bring about yet another cult classic that will don the same underpinnings of the outgoing Durango. This new model, according to an interview with Fiat CEO, Sergio Marchionne, by Automobile Magazine, will be dubbed the Jeep Wagoneer.
Yup, after nearly two decades have passed since the Grand Cherokee replaced it; the Wagoneer name is again being uttered by the brass at Jeep. With the Durango reportedly going the way of the dodo bird in 2016, we assume that the Wagoneer will arrive sometime in the 2015 model year to give it some time to catch on before cutting the Durango altogether.
In the same interview, Marchionne also let us know that Dodge will axe the Avenger for the second time, in 2014. This time around, the Avenger lasted only five model years, one year less than its original version. We were shocked to even see it return, so seeing it disappear is no surprise at all, despite that it was far less ugly than its original rendition.

Dodge’s Charger Pursuit is already a huge success among the American police officers, and today the company has revealed the new Durango Special Service - a vehicle designed for both the police fleet or fire departments and fleet customers. Dodge will start taking orders now and deliveries will begin in the second quarter of 2012.
Just like with the standard Durango, the new Special Service vehicle will be offered in rear- or all-wheel drive configurations and with a standard Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 engine and available 360 HP 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine. However, compared to the standard car, this special vehicle has received a heavy-duty brake package, heavy-duty battery, larger-output 220-amp alternator and heavy-duty water pump and engine oil cooler.
For the interior Dodge has added dome lamp and headliner, spot lamp wiring prep and the deletion of the third row of seats for more cargo capacity.
"We’re incredibly excited to add the Dodge Durango Special Service to our line-up of law enforcement vehicles," said Peter Grady, Vice President of Network Development and Fleet Operations. "Adding Durango to our current Dodge Charger Pursuit and Ram 1500 Special Service vehicles allows us to offer a full range of fleet sedan, SUV, and truck options to law enforcement and government agencies."
The Dodge Durango may not be one of our first candidates as far as tuning programs are concerned - we reserved that right for the Viper - but we certainly aren’t complaining with what Mopar Underground did with this SEMA-bound special edition Dodge Durango Tow Hook.
Immediately, the SUV’s four-coat orange and satin-black color scheme attracted our attention, as did the healthy infusion of styling upgrades done on the SUV. In addition to the fancy pants paint finish, the Durango Tow Hook also gets a piano black split-crosshair grille, a satin-black roof, fascia accents, hood graphics, and a set of 22" twin-spoke forged Superalloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli tires. The Dodge SUV also has a custom and performance-increasing mandrel bent exhaust system featuring Corsa components and a lowered suspension that cuts the SUV’s ride height by 25 mm.
Meanwhile, the Durango Tow Hook’s interior picks up from where the exterior left off with a variety of high-quality Mopar components, including black, perforated Mopar Katzkin leather seats that come with orange leather trim and orange stitching and piping. The seat inserts are covered with Perforated Barracuda suede covers while suede bolsters with matching orange accent stitching and piping provide visual treats for the seats. The orange treatment continues with a leather trim, stitching, and piping on the center armrest while the door panels come with orange stitching and a silver metal brush trim. The SUV also has a new SRT steering wheel, black chrome trim around the vents, and piano-white trimmed radio/HVAC and center console bezels, completing the entire dress-up for the Durango Tow Hook.
Toyo Tires will be bringing a whole fleet of vehicles to the SEMA Auto Show, featuring four customized machines that will be part of the headline act at the world’s biggest aftermarket auto event.

Performance modifications are still being kept under wraps. Nevertheless, this Durango will still carry a powerful 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that produces 295 horsepower and 260 lb/ft of torque. Either way, you’re getting something that’s well worth your time.

True to its promise of reinventing itself for the new year, Dodge is coming to the 2011 Chicago Auto Show with a roster of R/T edition models, one of which is the hulking mass of power, the Dodge Durango R/T. Joining the Durango R/T at show will be four other R/T models, including the Charger R/T, the Challenger R/T, the Grand Caravan R/T, and the Journey R/T. Incidentally, the last two models are the first of its line to be outfitted with Dodge’s road & track setup.
Similar to the Durango Heat revealed earlier, the Durango R/T comes with a bevy of aesthetic improvements and performance modifications. Essentially, both the Durango R/T and the Durango Heat are the same models except for one pretty important aspect: engine performance. Regardless of the different powertrains, Dodge has set high expectations for both the Durango R/T and the Durango Heat within the full-size SUV segment.
At the Chicago Auto Show, we’ll get a pretty good idea on whether these two gnarly machines are up to the task.

It’s a new year for Dodge and the American automaker is determined to start the year off on the right foot. At the 2011 Chicago Auto Show, Dodge will be unveiling a new and affordable performance package for the 2011 Durango, one that will henceforth be called the Dodge Durango Heat.
Though it doesn’t come with the same HEMI powertrain of the performance-oriented Durango R/T, the Durango Heat does come with some attractive features of its own. First is an aggressive styling that underlies its inner beast. Then there’s the new Pentastar V6 engine, which, despite its less powerful engine compared to its R/T alter ego, promises to make up for it in terms of fuel efficiency.
According to Ralph Giles, Dodge’s president and CEO, the Durango Heat "is about handling performance and a street presence that puts the sport in sport-utility."
Wiser words have never been spoken.

Dodge’s roster of tuned-up vehicles headed for SEMA wouldn’t be complete without an intimidating presence, a gargantuan of sorts that looks all the more imposing when you add some customizations to it.
This year, the 2011 Dodge Durango Citadel “Black and Tan’ fits that bill to a tee. Not content with the standard Durango trim, Dodge, together with tuner extraordinaire Mopar Underground, took the hulking SUV, outfitted it with trims, gave it a new dimensions, shored up its package, and shined it up really nice. The result is this monolithic beast of an SUV that’s been appropriately designated as the Durango Citadel “Black and Tan”.

Photos of the new 2011 Dodge Durango have been coming out very slowly. Not that we’re in a huge hurry to see an updated version of a pretty awful vehicle. We’ve seen the exterior before, but today, Chrysler has released an image of the new Durango’s interior.
The new Durango differs from the Jeep Grand Cherokee in a few very important ways. All the controls and gizmos are housed on the dashboard, which will give owners more room to store things in the center console.
The two-tone leather interior is fairly nice and the extra lighting touches really set the car off. We like the fact that there is enough chrome to keep lovers of the material happy, but not too much to make it gaudy. Overall, it looks far more luxurious than the old model, or any other Dodge product currently on the market.
We need to play around in it first, but it seems that Chrysler is taking its interior design seriously.
