There is no dearth of electric cars in the market now. We aren’t just talking about the urban commuters, but also fast electric cars. There are many new automakers that start their electric car journey with fast cars or electric supercars. Companies like Estrema, Aspark, and even Tesla, for that matter, came up with fast electric sports cars or electric supercars. While some have faded into oblivion after showing us promising concepts, some have weathered the storm and are either into production or will enter production.

Here’s a list of the 18 fastest electric cars in the world today that are in the production stage or about to enter production. Some of these fast cars are from mainstream automakers, some from established EV makers, and some from new start-ups.

The automotive world continues to innovate seemingly by the day, and this is nowhere more apparent than in the EV space. As carmakers improve battery technology to get more and more performance out of them, what used to be considered fast electric cars may not be considered the same nowadays, and this is a fluid list that's likely to continue to change. To keep you up to date with what's going on in the world of EVs, here's an updated list of the 18 fastest electric cars in the world.

1 2024 Rimac Nevera - 258 MPH

Starting Price: $2.2 million

Let's get right to it, the Rimac Nevera is the fastest EV in the world. Rimac previewed it as a concept called C_Two at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show rolled out the production version three years later and christened it Nevera. The Nevera tops the list of the fastest electric cars in the world with a top speed of 258 mph! It’s not just this; the Nevera sprints to 60 mph from a standstill in 1.74 seconds, to 190 mph from rest in 9.22 seconds, and runs the quarter-mile distance in 8.25 seconds. To help it get off the line as quickly as possible, the Nevera features a powerful quad-motor setup that makes it an all-wheel-drive car.

The total power output is 1,914 horses and 1,741 pound-feet of twist. It features a 120 kWh battery pack that helps it achieve 342 miles on a single charge as per the WLTP ratings. This electric supercar is highly aero-efficient and even comes with a ‘High Downforce’ mode that boosts the downforce by 326-percent! The Nevera will be limited to 150 examples and will bear a price tag of approximately $2.2 million. It might be expensive, but hey, what else would you expect from the fastest EV in the world?

2 2024 Aspark Owl - 256 MPH

Starting Price: $3.1 million

The Aspark Owl is one of the latest additions to the EV market, and it has made quite an impression ever since it was launched. The Owl is the first Japanese full-electric hypercar ever and is fighting with the Lotus Evija for the title of the world’s most powerful electric car. The electric supercar is powered by four permanent magnet synchronous motors that produce a combined 1,984 horsepower and 1,475 pound-feet of torque.

Aspark claims the new version of the Owl can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 1.72 seconds and up to a top speed of 256 mph, which is enough for second place on this list. The supercar is built on a carbon fiber chassis that weighs only 264.5 pounds, and it is not only incredibly fast, but also incredibly light and shockingly durable. It has a range of 280 miles. The Aspark Owl is limited to only 50 units, each priced at approximately $2.8 million.

3 2024 Tesla Roadster - 250+ MPH

Starting Price: $200,000

Tesla announced its arrival in the electrification scene in 2008 with the Roadster. It was the first car to wear the Tesla badge. While the first-gen looked like the Lotus Elise’s long-lost twin, the company unveiled the Roadster 2.0 in 2017, and it had more Tesla traits and characteristics. It was expected to come out in 2020, but now we're a few months into 2024 and it still hasn't hit the streets. Anyway, the Roadster 2.0’s specs are jaw-dropping. It will feature two motors on the rear axle and one at the front.

Although the horsepower isn’t revealed, the electric car will make 7,376 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. This will help the EV sprint to 60 mph in just 1.89 seconds. If this wasn’t quick enough, the Roadster will be offered with a SpaceX option package that includes 10 rocket thrusters around the car. This will help it touch 60 mph from rest in just 1.1 seconds, which will make it by far the quickest EV to 60 mph on this list.

Tesla has revealed that the new Roadster will have a top speed above 250 mph. That doesn’t make it the fastest electric car, but it’s right there with other top players. Other performance specs include 0 to 100 mph in 4.2 seconds, and a quarter-mile time of 8.9 seconds. And, the icing on the cake is the 620-mile range, thanks to a 200 kWh battery pack that Tesla plans on using. I wonder how the automaker will keep its weight under check.

4 2025 Deus Vayanne - 248 MPH

Starting Price: $2.5 million

Deus Automobiles was established back in 2020, and in only two years, it managed to come out with one of the most impressive EVs the world has seen. The Deus Vayanne was introduced at the 2022 New York Auto Show, and it will go on sale in 2025. The Vayanne is a combination of design elements from many cars, including the Koenigsegg Agera, the Lotus Evija, and the Pagani Huayra. However, despite its plagiarism accusations, the Vayanne promises to be one of the fastest, most powerful electric cars in the world.

The company says it will deliver more than 2,200 horsepower, will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 1.99 seconds, and will hit a top speed of 248 mph. It will be limited to only 99 copies, and prices will be announced closer to market launch.

5 2024 Pininfarina Battista - 222 MPH

Starting Price: $2.2 million

The Battista was once upon a time the fastest quarter-mile production car in the world, with a record-breaking quarter-mile time of just 8.55 seconds. Though the Nevera in our top spot has beaten this record by now, this quarter-mile time still shows just how blindingly fast the Pininfarina Battista is. The electric supercar is powered by four permanent magnet synchronous motors that deliver a combined 1,900 horsepower and 1,741 pound-feet of torque.

It can run from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.79 seconds, and from 0 to 186 mph in 10.5 seconds. At launch, Pininfarina announced an estimated top speed of 217 mph, but in the hands of Renuka Kirpalani, the Battista went up to an amazing 222 mph. It will be limited to only 150 units, with prices starting from $2.2 million.

6 2024 Estrema Fulminea - 218 mph

Starting Price: $2.3 million

Another electric beast coming after the top-ranked Rimac Nevera as one of the fastest EVs in the world has been announced by the Italian company Estrema, and production officially began earlier this year, with a limit of just 61 units being built. With a very aerodynamic body, and most of the components made from carbon fiber, the new Estrema Fulminea is expected to deliver impressive performance figures.

The Fulminea is powered by four electric motors – one mounted on each wheel - that deliver a combined 2,040 horsepower, enough to make it one of the most powerful EVs in the world. The electric motors get their power from a 100-kWh battery pack that offers a range of 323 miles. But, what's even more impressive are the supercar's performance figures: the 0 to 60 mph sprint time has not been revealed yet, but the Fulminea will go from 0 to 200 mph in less than 10 seconds and will hit a top speed of 218 mph. The EV will not come cheap - it will be priced at $2.3 million.

7 2024 Lotus Evija - 218 MPH

Starting Price: $2.3 million

The limited-production Lotus Evija was announced a couple of years back, and in spite of the advent of many fast cars since then, it remains one of the fastest street-legal cars in recent times. It is composed of carbon fiber and was built to be one of the most aerodynamic cars in the world. The Evija features a quad-motor setup – one electric motor on each wheel – that dishes out 1,973 horses and 1,254 pound-feet of oomph combined! To own one, you’d have to shell out over $3 million. Lotus claims that this electric supercar can go up to 218 mph (where it's electrically limited) when given enough tarmac.

This is highly impressive and makes it one of the fastest electric cars in the world. The 0-60 mph leaves much to be desired - as per EV standards - as it takes around three seconds to sprint to the mark. This is in no way unimpressive, but electric cars have set such standards that even three seconds to 60 mph seems slow. As for the range, it could be driven for 250 miles before you’d have no other option but to plug it in.

8 2024 Drako GTE - 206 mph

Starting Price: $1.3 million

The Drako GTE is next on the list and it is powered by four individual magnet hybrid synchronous motors that deliver a combined 1,200 horsepower and 6,490 pound-feet of torque - making it one of the most powerful four-seater cars ever made. The electric motors take their power from an innovative 90-kWh, 450-volt battery unit made up of 10,000 cells that provide a range of 250 miles.

Drako has not revealed the 0 to 60 mph sprint time just yet but announced the GTE will go up to a top speed of 206 mph. The EV is based on the Karma Revero GT from which it borrows most of its design, but it adds its own unique features and a very luxurious cabin. The new Drako GTE will be limited to only 25 units and it doesn't come cheap: it starts from $1.3 million.

9 2024 Lucid Air Sapphire - 205 MPH

Starting Price: $250,000

The Air Sapphire is Lucid's response to the Tesla Model S Plaid. It arrived at the 2022 Monterey Car Week - two years after the standard Air was announced. The Sapphire sports Lucid’s most advanced tri-motor powertrain yet, and it delivers a combined 1,234 horsepower - over 100 horsepower more than the Air Dream Edition Performance (1,111 horsepower) and significantly more than the Air's base 480 horsepower.

The Lucid Air Sapphire has a range of 427 miles, can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.89 seconds, and can hit a top speed of 205 mph. The Lucid Air Sapphire will be built in limited numbers and is priced at $249,000 plus a $1,500 destination charge.

10 2024 Maserati GranTurismo Folgore - 202 mph

Starting Price: $215,000

The new generation Maserati GranTurismo brings a lot of surprises to the table. It comes with a new design language, and, for the first time, it also offers an all-electric powertrain. Known as the GranTurismo Folgore, the all-electric sports car is powered by three separate permanent magnet motors that will deliver a combined 762 horsepower in most driving modes. Initial rumors suggested the Folgore could deliver as much as 1,200 horsepower, but Maserati denied those rumors.

The three motors get their power from a 92.5 kWh battery that provides a range of around 240 miles, and, while this may not sound like a lot, the Folgore also benefits from fast charging speeds too. This will enable it to add up to 60 miles of range in just 5 minutes of charging, while using a 270-kW connection. The GranTurismo Folgore will also deliver impressive performance figures: it can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 202 MPH, which is higher than originally expected when it was announced.

11 2024 Tesla Model S Plaid - 200 mph

Starting Price: $89,990

The Tesla Model S Plaid needs no introduction. It debuted back in 2021 and shattered the EV scene at the time. It came with ridiculous specs that put any car to shame, not just electric supercars. We’ve seen its prowess multiple times on the drag strips, taking on anything with enough juice to try and keep up. Tesla plonked another motor in the Model S’ standard dual-motor setup, and the three motors make 1,020 horses combined. The electric car is powered by a 99 kWh battery pack that’s good for 348 miles when driven sedately. Now, coming to its performance, the Tesla Model S comes with some ridiculous specs.

The company says it can sprint to 60 mph from a standstill in 1.99 seconds and has a top speed of just over 200 mph. The Tesla Model S Plaid is one the fastest electric four-door sedans you can buy today, and easily the most affordable car in its class, with the 2024 price actually dropping compared to previous model years.

12 2019 Nio EP9 - 196 mph

Starting Price: $3 million

The Chinese-built Nio EP9 (Electric Performance 9) was announced for the first time back in 2016, but despite initial plans, it never became a road-legal vehicle, and the very few people who own one can only enjoy it on the track. Still, the Nio EP9 is an electric supercar that broke records: it lapped Nürburgring’s north loop in just 6 minutes and 45 seconds, becoming the fastest EV around Nürburgring at that time.

The EP9 is powered by four different electric motors called MGUs that deliver a combined 1,341 horsepower and 1,091 pound-feet of torque. It has a range of 265 miles and can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 196 mph.

13 2022 Hispano Suiza Carmen Boulogne - 180 mph

Starting Price: $2 million

Hispano Suiza revived the long-dead and forgotten Carmen name back in 2019 when the first model was announced at the Geneva Motor Show. Two years later, the company unveiled an updated, lighter, and more powerful version called the Carmen Boulogne. Limited to only five units, the Carmen Boulogne is powered by a pair of permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors that deliver a combined 1,114 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque.

It is very light for an EV - with a total weight of only 3,592 pounds - which means it will deliver incredible performance figures. It can rocket from 0 to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds and can hit a top speed of 180 mph. The electric motors get their juice from an 80 kWh battery pack that provides a range of more than 248 miles. Out of the five units built, none will be like the others, as Hispano is offering over 1,900 different personalization combinations to pick from. Of course, exclusivity comes with a price, and the Carmen Boulogne is priced at over $2 million.

14 2023 Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance - 168 MPH

Starting Price: $169,000

Designed by Peter Rawlinson, the same gentleman who was the brains behind the Tesla Model S, the Lucid Air was released to take on the Tesla Model S, and it quickly proved to be a force to reckon with. In fact, it was such a force that even MotorTrend acknowledged it by naming the Air its 2022 Car of the Year.

Months after its launch, the top-spec Dream Edition was split into two – Range and Performance – to allow customers to choose what they need the most. The Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance churns out a combined 1,111 horses and approximately 737 pound-feet of torque from its dual-motor setup.

This allows the EV to silently propel to 60 mph from rest in 2.5 seconds and let it go all the way up to 168 mph, making it one of the fastest electric performance cars in the world. Even though Lucid has a Dream Edition model that favors the range, the Performance model can also go 471 miles before losing breath. As of 2024, orders for the Dream Edition have been closed by Lucid, so the 2023 model might end up being the last version ever produced.

15 2024 Cadillac Celestiq - 168 mph

Starting Price: $300,000+

The new Cadillac Celestiq is here to impress the world, and what an impression it made! With a starting price of more than $300,000, the new Celestiq is the most expensive Cadillac ever, but it is also a little bit more than that. The EV is built on GM's revolutionary Ultium Platform which gives it impressive performance and efficiency figures along with its proven reliability, since the Ultium Platform has been used in most of GM's successful EVs in recent years.

The Cadillac Celestiq is powered by a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive propulsion system that delivers a combined 600 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque, while a 111-kWh battery pack provides a range of 300 miles. It is also one of the fastest electric vehicles in the world, with a top speed of 168 mph.

Though it's fast on the top end, it's not particularly quick off the line, taking 3.8 seconds to go from 0 to 60 MPH, which is relatively slow for an EV in this class. Almost entirely hand-built, the Celestiq features a very elegant exterior look and one of the most luxurious cabins you will see in an EV. It also features a total of 115 3D printed parts, plus a ton of safety and technology features.

16 2024 Tesla Model X Plaid - 163 MPH

Starting Price: $94,990

While the Tesla Model S Plaid has been hogging all the limelight, many people have probably forgotten that the Model X is also offered with the Plaid treatment. Tesla has noted that this electric SUV can run a quarter-mile in under 10 seconds, which is not something you'd expect from an SUV you can also take the kids to soccer practice in. It features three motors that combined to make 1,020 horses and power all four wheels in an advanced AWD system. This all comes together to make the Model X Plaid one of the fastest all-electric SUVs on the market today. Despite being the performance trim in the line-up, the Model X Plaid is good to travel for 313 miles on a full charge. Though there was initially a bit of mystery behind the Model X Plaid's battery, it is powered by Tesla's 100 kWh unit that's used in other models as well. As for the price, it starts at just $94,990, making it one of the most affordable EVs in its class.

17 2023 Tesla Model 3 Performance - 162 MPH

Starting Price: $53,240

With a starting price of under $55,000, the Tesla Model 3 Performance is the cheapest electric car on this list. The EV comes with two electric motors – one mounted on each axle – that combine to pack a punch and deliver instant power. The Tesla Model 3 Performance has a top speed of 162 mph; one mph more than the flagship Taycan model below that’s priced more than three times the cost of this entry-level Tesla model.

Along with the Model 3's impressive performance, it still offers an EPA-estimated range of 315 miles, which is rather impressive for a car this fast. The 2023 model seemed like it might have been the last year for the Performance trim since the automaker did not release it with the rest of the 2024 Model 3 Highland update. The automaker is also seemingly toying with the idea of adding a Plaid trim to the Model 3 lineup, which would undoubtedly make its performance even better, likely rocketing it up this list.

18 2024 Porsche Taycan Turbo S - 161 MPH

Starting Price: $194,900

Adding to its impressive lineup of supercars, Porsche has released the Taycan Turbo S as its flagship EV. This electric sports car makes up to 616 horses from its base dual-motor setup, but with the Overboost Power and Launch Control, it churns out up to 750 horses. The maximum torque is rated at 774 pound-feet. Unlike most of the electric performance cars in this list, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S comes with a two-speed transmission that’s mounted on the rear axle.

The Porsche Taycan Turbo S is one of the fastest electric performance cars in the world (even though it's rounding off our list here as the slowest one) with a top speed of 161 mph and a 0 to 60 mph time of 2.6 seconds. Before the Turbo S, the ‘Turbo’ model held the apex position in the Taycan lineup. It held a record to its name for being the fastest production EV at the Nürburgring for over two years, until it was smashed by the Tesla Model S Plaid.

There are many other models that we haven’t taken into consideration because they’re either just concepts or are far from production (the new 2024 Tesla Roadster keeps getting delayed, but will come out soon, and hence it made the cut). We’ll update this list once they near production or we have more new electric cars come up – which is bound to happen in 2025 and beyond.
