Don’t expect anything completely out of the ordinary with Ford’s new F-Series Super Duty pickup trucks. The truth is, the pickup’s no frills, go-get-’em aura strikes a lot of us as the epitome of what a heavy-duty vehicle should be.
That’s an important quality to have because the market demands it, especially with competitors like the RAM Heavy Duty and the Chevrolet Silverado engaging Ford in a constant game of one-upsmanship for heavy-duty pickup supremacy.
The 2014 model of the F-Series Super Duty, which consists of the F-250 and F-350, doesn’t do much in the way of aesthetic improvements. Instead, Ford focused on giving the new model minor improvements to the braking system, including bigger rotors and a larger parking brake. It’s not going to catch the attention of the aesthetically-inclined, but there’s an argument to be made that these changes will offer more in turning the 2014 F-Series Super Duty pickup trucks into more capable to bring the fight to its competitors.
At the end of the day, that’s what you should expect with these four-wheeled monsters. Anything more will leave you disappointed and anything less will leave you pleasantly surprised.

The SEMA-bound Ford F-350 that was modified by Superlift Suspensions is like a cross between a Matchbox and a Transformer. And for the kid-at-heart in all of us, it can’t get any better than that.
It’s flashy, it’s gigantic, and it’s actually real. Yep, that’s the dream. In what is arguably one of the most colorful participants at the 2011 SEMA Auto Show, this Ford F-350 Super Duty is the ultimate aftermarket show truck that combines eye-catching looks with the kind of performance modifications that will put others to shame.
The look, by itself, is enough to make heads turn ala Linda Blair. The Bright Orange finish, together with the Matchbox logo prominently displayed on the truck is enough to make us long for those days when our happiness revolved around die-cast cars plunging off of our stairs.
On top of the visual treat, Superlift Suspensions also gave the F-350 Super Duty all the elements of a compact fire truck while also lifting the car’s suspension by 10" to accommodate those insanely huge 41" off-road tires. We’re pretty sure that there’s more to this modified truck than the first salvo of information that we’ve been given so we’re going to keep our eyes and ears open to see whether Superlift has more information they’ve yet to reveal.
In the meantime, we can look at this beast with great appreciation at how it fully represents everything that we love about SEMA, a place where creativity and innovation blend together to produce vehicles like the one Superlift Suspensions will bring to the show next week.
The Ford F-150 won’t be the only pick-up shining at Ford’s stand in SEMA. Next to it, will be a customized Ford F-350 Super Duty from Hulst Customs, and from the first pictures, it seems like they have done an amazing job.
The customized Ford F-350 Super Duty is called "Black Mamba" and "shows off the ultimate in luxury and style." The package includes a Hulst Customs-designed hood and grille with stainless steel mesh insert, Hulst Customs side rockers, and a lower front fascia with LED lighting by Radiantz. Planet Color used custom black paint along with 3M Di-Noc stainless graphics for the exterior, but the highlight - or extravagant overkill - of the Black Mamba is the suicide rear doors with Scissor Doors billet hinge kit. For the interior, the tuner has opted for Katzkin leather and Hulst Customs aluminum trim accents.

Ford has announced that they will be looking to recall over 26,715 models due to faulty components in the brake and tail lights. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), "The multi-function switch was shipped with a sub-component (slider) that may experience deformation. A multi-function switch with a deformed slider may malfunction causing the turn signal, tail lights, hazard warning signal flashers and/or brake lights not to activate."
This is not the first time Ford pickups have undergone a serious recall. In 2010, 23,688 4-cylinder models were recalled due to a potential fire hazard. That recall centered on potential chafing of fuel lines. The Ranger was also subject to a recall in 2010 when over 2,300 manual transmission vehicles were recalled due to a faulty parking brake hydraulic actuator causing "..unintended movement which may cause a crash."
Past history aside, Ford’s newest recall is affecting a variety of vehicle including the 2002-2005 Excursion, the 2002-2007 F-250-F-550, and the 2011 Ford Ranger.
If you just so happen to own one of the vehicles on the list, head on over to your local Ford dealer where the part will be replaced with a more robust unit. The recall is expected to begin on August 15th, 2011.
The Oregon based design studio Hulst Customs have just introduced their Striker models based on the Ford F-150 and F-350 Dually. Both trucks receive 15 piece body kits designed by Hulst and are covered in Striker Silver with two bold blue stripes running the length of either vehicle. The F-150 rides nicely on its multi-piece twelve spoke rims from Rodtana while the F-350 is sitting pretty on a set of 24 inch American Force forged alloys.
