Nobody can accuse Jay Leno->ke3731 of having too few vehicles in his Burbank, California garage. As the retired late-night talk show host takes on more projects, space becomes limited – even in the 17,000-square-foot converted warehouse. Making more room generally means auctioning off vehicles for a worthy cause. Jay’s latest vehicle headed to auction is this one-off, 2000 Ford F-150->ke423 that was the first Harley-Davidson Edition to roll off the assembly line.

The truck was officially delivered to Jay during a ceremony in May of 2000 when Ford->ke31 Division’s then-president Jim O’Connor handed the keys over at the Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan.

However, the truck was more than just the first F-150 Harley-Davidson – it is a one-off build. Ford had doctored the truck’s powertrain with an extra 100 horsepower by swapping the standard 5.4-liter V-8 for the supercharged version from the F-150 SVT Lightning. This engine later became standard in the 2002 F-150 Harley-Davidson Edition, likely thanks to inspiration from Jay’s truck.

The truck->ke1311 will go under the gavel on January 29, 2016 at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction. Coverage of the event is happening on live TV. Best of all, 100 percent of the money will benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the country’s leading organization helping people affected by the disease with research, advocacy, and education.

Exterior

The 2000-model truck is a tenth-generation F-150. Beginning in 1997 and lasting through 2003, the tenth-gen F-150 featured more luxury comforts, better engine choices, and more trim level options, including the King Ranch, Limited, and of course, the Harley-Davidson Edition.

The Harley-Davidson Edition got its start in 2000, obviously, and featured a monochromatic, black-on-black color scheme with red pinstriping and plenty of Harley-Davidson badged. The truck was only available in a SuperCab and standard-length bed its first year, before moving to the SuperCrew and short bed size in 2001.

Like all 2000 F-150 Harley-Davidson Editions, Jay’s truck features a chrome grille, ten-spoke chrome wheels, and the Flairside bed.

Interior

The Harley-Davidson Edition came with a bespoke interior not found on any other F-150. The leather seats feature unique lateral stitching and an embossed Harley-Davidson emblem. The front occupants enjoy bucket seats with a large center console. Rear passengers could sit three across on the rear bench. Like the standard F-150, the rear bench tumbles forward, revealing a metal loading platform for storing bulky items.

Luxury trucks were still in their infancy in 2000, but the Harley-Davidson Edition came with just about every available luxury item offered. The AM/FM radio came with both CD and cassette players, the driver had cruise control, power windows, power locks, and power mirrors, and white-faced gauges. Uniquely, Jay’s truck is the only 2000 F-150 Harley-Davidson to come with a boost gauge from the factory.

Drivetrain

All the Harley-Davidson Edition F-150s that rolled off the assembly line in 2000 came with the 5.4-liter Triton V-8. This was already an upgrade from the standard 4.2-liter V-6 and 4.6-liter V-8. However, this wasn’t enough for Ford. During construction of the truck, the engineers ordered that the 5.4-liter V-8 from the high-performance F-150 Lightning be fitted within between the fenders.

The Lightning’s V-8 was supercharged and created another 100 horsepower on top of the 5.4-liter’s 260. All told, this Harley-Davidson Edition makes 360 horsepower and an impressive 440 pound-feet of torque. A four-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels.

Jay as only accrued some 2,000 miles on the truck since he took delivery, so it’s basically brand new. All the fluids have been changed and a new Optima battery bolted up in preparation for the auction block. Otherwise, this truck is just as it was in 2000.

Prices

There’s no telling what this truck will bring at auction. Generally speaking, those who bid on mind-condition vehicles for charity auctions don’t have a very low ceiling on money they’re willing to spend. That said, the truck will likely be sold for more than $150,000.

Conclusion

The 2000 Ford F-150 Harley-Davidson Edition was a cool truck to begin with, but with this particular example being the first Harley-Davidson Edition off the line, the only to have the custom SVT Lightening engine, only having 2,000 miles on the odometer, and being owned by Jay Leno himself – well, that just makes it unbelievably cool and rare.

What’s more, it’s nice to see Jay give back to a worthy cause like the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The disease effects many live all over the world and finding a cure is imperative.
