Every year, Ford rolls out a special edition one-piece Mustang for the very purpose of auctioning it off at the EAA AirVenture in July for the benefit of the EAA Young Eagles program. These babies - as with all one-off edition cars - are exceedingly rare for the very simple reason that there’s only one of them being made.

This year, the one-off, aviation-themed Mustang GT was built to celebrate the 100th anniversary of naval aviation. It comes with a specific blue-and-yellow color scheme that takes itself from the colors of the ’Blue Angels’ fighter group with a yellow "Blue Angels" script and crest on the doors. Likewise, the crest can also be found on the interior of the car, where they are stitched into the leather Recaro seats.

On top of that, Ford also upgraded the Mustang’s powertrain, improving the output of the car’s 5.0-liter V8 engine from 412 horsepower to 500 horsepower. There’s also a Ford Racing handling package, a new performance exhaust, and race-track capable brakes.

Last year, Ford was able to auction off the Mustang SR-71 "Blackbird" for $375,000. Judging by the enthusiastic turn out for these events, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Mustang GT "Blue Angels" Edition hits that mark again, maybe even exceeding it.

UPDATE 08/01/2011: When the hammer fell last week, the Blue Angels tribute Mustang had been bid up to $400,000, purchased by an anonymous California bidder. In addition to the unique Mustang, the winning bidder will also receive a Blue Angels flight helmet, signed by pilots and crew of the Blue Angels precision flying team.

The Blue Angels Mustang GT is a one-off model inspired by the acclaimed naval aviation performance demonstration team and the F-18 Hornet aircraft it flies. On the exterior, this special model will be distinguished by a custom rear spoiler with vertical tailfins, "screaming yellow" gloss accents, and the Blue Angels script and crest. The Blue Angels Mustang GT is painted in a unique chrome blue paint, courtesy of Creations n’ Chrome. This paint is now available on any production vehicle anywhere in the world.

The interior gets Recaro racing seats with offset stripes inspired by pilot flight suit, cluster graphics, performance gauges, navigation screen images, safety belt fabric, instrument panel appliqués, rear seat-delete and cross-brace, Blue Angels script in the illuminated sill plates, and puddle lamps that project jet images when the doors open.

Under the hood, there is a Ford Racing supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine that delivers a total of 624 HP. For comparison, a standard Mustang GT is powered by a 5.0 V8 engine that delivers a total of 412 HP. The Ford Racing components also include a handling pack, performance exhaust, and racetrack brakes.

This is a one-off model that will be put on auction at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh held on July 25th-31th, 2011 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wis.

When it comes to competition, there’s no doubt that the Mustang Blue Angels outdoes all of the Mustang GT’s usual competitors, especially since this is exactly what the Mustang was created to do. Of course, since this is a one-off model, vehicles like the Camaro SS shouldn’t feel the need to worry about it dominating the market. For comparison’s sake, the Chevrolet Camaro is powered by a 6.2L V-8 engine with an output of 422 HP. That is more than 200 HP less than the Blue Angels edition.

Admittedly, I was impressed with the figure performance of this car. The paint job is great and the beauty of those racing stripes never fades to me.

Admittedly, it really has the speed performance, but I’m so tired of Mustang. Ford must create other versions aside from Mustang. It is already obsolete in the first place.

They just made an impressive speed performance for the car. I think this one of the best production that we can see in the market for a limited edition.

This would be one of the powerful engine that we can see in the market. For sure the greatest competitor of the car would be the Camaro SS and the Challenger! The conformance is really remarkable!

The good thing in Mustang is it has a lot of versions and all of them have a speed performance that a race car have. In the past years, Mustang became obsolete and now being revived by Ford.

I was impressed with the speed performance of the car is very impressive. I think this is the most power Mustang GT.

Its a good thing that they have offered a higher speed performance for the car. The tuned up version of this car is quite impressive! However, I think the car is quite pricey.

I really liking the sportiness of the interior of the car. And its a good thing as well that it has an impressive power output.

the good thing about the Mustang was that eventhough its a vintage still Ford has something new to offer in the car. And I would say that I’m impressed with the speed performance of the Ford Mustang.

As we expected from Mustang, most of their cars are for racing that is why it has a high speed performance. By the way, I thought that Ford Mustang’s career is already done, but they show us that they still have the guts.

Blue Angels? It’s my first time to hear that tuning company. But they give a good impression on this one. Marked as the most powerful in the Mustang GT line up, that makes it different from other versions.

This one is very suitable in car racing! As I look the exterior and interior features of this mustang "Blue Angels", it reminds me the car I’ve seen before in a car event! However, this one looks so awesome!..

Impressive! The engine performance of the car is quite good. I agree that this is the powerful Mustang GT. The interior is quite amazing as well as the aggressive exterior.

As expected the aggressiveness of the Mustang was captured in this version. I really love the styling of Ford compare to Dodge car and the interior was simple elegant.

I am not really liking all these special edition Mustangs. All they have is just a change of paint job and nothing else. I wish they would come out with a new model soon.

  (570) posted on 07.7.2011

Well, I would say that I am not really into these special edition Mustangs, since most of them are simply exterior works. But this one really caught my fancy.

  (276) posted on 07.4.2011

@Veyron101 well, whatever color this one has, I am still liking it. After all, it is still a Mustang and I am very much into that car, so this one would still count as a favorite.

I am definitely loving the blue colors and yellow accents on this one. I must admit that I am not that familiar with the Blue Angels, so I am surprised to learn that that’s were they got the name.

  (530) posted on 06.30.2011

I think this edition is not just right for me. I don’t see the relevance of the Blue Color into the fury of Ford Mustang. I love to see this car in a red one. That’s literally hot!

Wow, a Mustang done in the colors of the Blue Angels, this one is nice. Actually, I am a huge fan of that aerobatics team, so this one would definitely fit my fancy. Too bad that it’s just a one off.
