The Extang F-150 may have had its debut at the November 2014 SEMA show,->ke216 but its life as a show truck is far from over. Sponsored by the tonneau cover company Extang and built by the automotive class at the Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, MI, the F-150 boasts an “Ultimate Work Truck->ke1311” theme with a host of aftermarket parts and accessories designed for the job site.

Most noticeable is the updated paint scheme and graphics. The paintwork, along with all the assembly, was completed by WCC students. The four-inch suspension lift, upgraded Goodyear Duratrac tires, and 20-inch chrome wheels. Of course, that orange ladder on the roof rack is an attention-getter, as well. The roof rack, headache rack, toolbox, front light bar, fender flairs, side steps, and Extang’s tonneau cover change the truck’s appearance. Things inside the F-150's all-new cab were left pretty much stock. A set of all-weather floor mats and an upgraded subwoofer were added.

Fitting the theme, the bed features a BedRug to protect the paint, a sliding bed tray that rolls rearward for easy access to tools and supplies, a DeeZee toolbox, and a headache rack to protect the rear of the cab. Topping it all off is Extang’s next generation of sold fold tonneau cover.

The F-150’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost wasn’t left alone either. An AIRAID intake system and Ford Racing exhaust opens up the twin-turbocharged engine. Normally the engine produces 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, but those outputs are likely surpassed thanks to the extra airflow.

Expect to see the Extang F-150->ke423 at more events over the next several months.

Ford F-150 By Extang in detail

Ford F150

All-new for 2015, the F-150 is totally remade. A new EcoBoost V-6 engine is added to the mix, along with the upgraded interior and the truck industry’s first all-aluminum body. A high-strength steel frame does the heavy lifting, giving the truck more towing and hauling capabilities than ever before. Added creature comforts like an optional panoramic glass roof, side mirror spotlights, a revised tailgate step, an informative TFT driver’s gauge cluster display bring even more functionality.

Under the hood, Ford offers four engine choices, ranging from the naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V-6 base engine to the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6. The new 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 joins the mix making 325 horses and 375 pound-feet of torque. Lastly, Ford offers the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V-8 for those who crave the traditional V-8 advantages.

Prices for the 2015 F-150 start just over $26,000 and can run past $52,000 without options.
