Ford is happily showing off its performance parts catalog at the 2014 SEMA show.->ke216 But the automaker isn’t just throwing a couple issues of the magazine on a table and calling it done. Oh no, it built this 2015 Mustang GT “King Cobra” with the parts found inside. Just take a gander at this one-off dragster.

“We wanted Mustang enthusiasts to be able to open up the Ford->ke31 Racing parts catalog and get one of everything and see what they could get,” says Ford Racing director Jamie Allison. “We think the King Cobra package is it.” While all the parts can be ordered a la carte, this particular combination constitutes Ford’s first performance package for the new Mustang.

The build includes the Drag Pack with heavy-duty half shafts, a rear subframe kit, and high-performance bushings; the Handling Pack that lowers the car an inch with specialized springs plus rear shocks and a stabilizer bar kit; and the Super Pack that includes a 2.3-liter Twin Vortices supercharger, an intake manifold, an electronic throttle body, and air intake system, high-flow fuel rail and injectors, an air-to-liquid intercooler, and a computer tune.

With the added boost to the 5.0-liter V-8, Ford suspects the engine puts out some 600-plus horsepower. That’s an impressive jump from the V-8's stock 435-horsepower rating. Laying that power to the ground is done with massive, street-legal drag radials. Skinny straight-line tires shed some unnecessary weight from the front end, helping the car complete the quarter mile in just 10.97 seconds.

Ford Mustang King Cobra Concept in detail

The exterior of the King Cobra isn’t left alone either. It’s wrapped in a snakeskin pattern that fades from black to red. A giant cobra with a red slithering tongue is prominently displayed, ready to strike on the Mustang’s hood while a unique set of chrome wheels help offset the dark bodywork.

Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang is completely new for 2015 with only two engine choices and perhaps a few bolts carrying over. A newly styled body still pays homage to the Mustang’s past but also looks more modern than the previous generation. A newly styled cockpit follows the same theory of modern yet classic with its dual-pod gauge cluster and double haunch dash.

Power comes from one of three engines: a 3.7-liter V-6, a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, or the 5.0-liter, Coyote V-8. The EcoBoost engine is new for 2015 as well, bringing a return of a four-cylinder to the Mustang nameplate. With 310 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque, the EcoBoost provides more grunt than the V-6 while returning the best EPA-estimated numbers at 21 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined with the automatic transmission.

Pricing for the Mustang starts at $24,425 and rises to nearly $50,000 for a top-trim GT model.
