Ford->ke31 promised to bring 12 Mustangs to the 2014 SEMA Auto Show.->ke216 So far, we’ve only seen a few of them, but with SEMA drawing closer, we can at least expect to see more of these custom-tuned Ponies as the calendar approaches November 2014. The next Mustang->ke428 on the list comes by way of MRT-Direct, and it's dubbed the TKO (Technical Knock Out).

I don’t want to sound like I’m gushing here, but I do have a soft spot for flamboyant Mustang programs like this one. I must also admit that MRT calling the kit 'TKO' is added brownie points.

The tuner created an extensive kit for the Mustang, upgrading its exterior, interior, engine, and chassis. In the process, MRT was able to cut down what it described as the Mustang's “un-needed weight”. That’s a nice way of saying that this Mustang’s now light enough to be called a quick and nimble street racer.

MRT didn’t divulge how much power it added to the Mustang’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, but we expect the full details of the program to be unveiled at the 2014 SEMA Auto Show.

Ford Mustang TKO by MRT In Detail

The TKO program provides an apt description of what the Mustang looks like with the orange and black two-tone finish. It's also got a custom hood with heat extractors and custom paint effects, creating a more attractive appearance that belies the muscle car’s truculent performance capabilities. MRT also installed new front upper and lower grills, and a new splitter to go with a rear spoiler from 3D Carbon, tinted glass, and carbon-fiber effects from Hitechfx.

The Mustang’s new wheels are another point of pride for this program. The 20-inch orange Need for Speed wheels from Forgiato, which are wrapped in BFGoodrich Rival tires, aren’t just incredible to look at, but they’re appropriately named too.

The interior is relatively subdued compared to the aggressive exterior updates. From what I’m told, the TKO kit only features new Racetech seats and race harnesses, as well as a new Kicker Audio system. I doubt that there’s a whole lot more to the cabin given that MRT did strive to cut down the Mustang’s weight.

The most impressive aspect of this kit is that MRT was smart enough to enlist the help of expert engine tuners like SCT Performance and Vortech to upgrade the Mustang’s EcoBoost engine. The former was tasked to perform the custom tune while the latter provided its highly regarded air-to-air intercooler. Together, these two components help the muscle car improve its performance numbers. The exact figures weren’t disclosed, but I think it’s fair to say that there’s around 400 horses.

Going fast in a straight line is great, but you also have to control it. MRT handled this part by digging into its own parts bin and installing an Air Lift performance suspension kit and other unnamed chassis retooling. Stopping duties go to MRT Modified Performance Pac four-piston calipers squeezing 14-inch rotors. The brakes are cooled by MRT brake ducts.
