Ford balled out at the 2018 Texas State Fair with a pair of special edition Expedition models, one of which was appropriately named the Explorer Texas Edition. Based on the 2019 Expedition Limited trim, the Texas Edition is perfectly identified by unique badging throughout its body. It’s short on visual upgrades like its counterpart, the Expedition Stealth Edition, but it stands out because of its emphasis on hauling, hence the inclusion of a cargo package and Ford’s Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package. The Ford Expedition Texas Edition will be available to order later this year. Pricing details will be announced soon.

What makes the Ford Expedition Texas Edition special

Of the four special edition models that Ford unveiled at the 2018 Texas State Fair — a pair of Ford Explorer SEs joined the two Expedition SEs — the Explorer Texas Edition is arguably the simplest among them. That’s it.

It’s not enough for the Expedition Texas Edition to stand out among the four special edition Ford SUVs, but this particular model does benefit from a number of packages that Ford is throwing in exclusively for this specific SE. The first package is the cargo package, which includes an advanced cargo manager that should get your gear in the cargo area organized and more secure. In addition to the cargo manager, the package also includes roof rack side rails and crossbars.

The other available package is the Special Edition Package, which is a collection of Ford’s most popular options that are meant to make hauling and towing easier. Technically, the cargo package features in this package. That and the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package, which comes with a heavy-duty radiator, an integrated trailer brake controller, two-speed automatic 4WD with neutral towing capability, Ford’s Pro Trailer Backup Assist system, and a 3.73 electronic limited-slip differential.

Those who opt for this special edition Expedition will also get an SUV that features a suite of driver-assistance tech, including an enhanced active park assist with parallel park, park out assist and reverse perpendicular parking, forward and reverse and side-sensing systems.

Like the rest of the special edition SUVs that showed up at the 2018 Texas State Fair, the Ford Expedition Texas Edition will be available to order later this year. Pricing details have yet to be announced, but expect Ford to announce the costs of these special edition models once they become available.
