The Ford Mustang is no stranger to getting worked over by tuning companies, and the Shelby GT350 is a personal favorite thanks to the tunability of its naturally aspirated, 5.2-liter, “Voodoo” V-8. At 526 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque, it’s pretty powerful, but there’s always room for more. And, that’s precisely why we’re looking at this Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 that has been impressively tuned by Fathouse Fabrications in Martinsville, Indiana.

Excessive Power Doesn’t Even Begin to Describe It

Raw, gut-wrenching, Earth-shattering power. That’s why you come to topspeed.com, right? Well, it should be, and this Shelby GT350 is a prime candidate for one of the best tuner models we’ve seen so far. It doesn’t feature all of those extraneous upgrades that you usually get from tuners these days. In fact, for the most part, the exterior has been left untouched. The only real difference that can be spotted are the revised side skirts, the taller rear spoiler, and a few badges or decals here and there. We assume that the same can be said for the inside, but we only have one picture to go by – one that shows a set of custom-wrapped sports seats and the red roll cage.

That’s okay, though, because you don’t need to walk the walk when you have so much talk. The example you see here is the Shelby GT350 1000R, named aptly for its upgraded output of 950 horsepower and 688 pound-feet of torque. Well, that’s on E85 fuel, anyway. If you run it on premium 93 octane, you’ll only get 806 horsepower and 677 pound-feet of torque. Top speed comes in at 185 mph! For reference, the standard GT350 can hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, so we’re talking about a one-second increase here.

This extra power and performance comes courtesy of some pretty extensive work. First, there is a pair of 62mm Xona Rotor dual-ball-bearing turbos mated to a new pair of stainless steel headers. These turbos, by the way, are actually mounted under the engine to help keep heat in check and make for easier access. Throw in a new fuel system, a new valve-controlled exhaust system, the upgraded valvetrain, and re-sleeved cylinder heads, and you understand how this baby can approach the four-figure horsepower mark. For what it’s worth, Fathouse found no need to meddle with the GT350’s cylinder heads, camshafts, crankshaft, and it hasn’t been bored out either, so displacement remains the same.

The really interesting thing is that 950 horsepower isn’t the limit. Fathouse has two other upgrades available for the GT350. The 1200R package can boost the GT350 up to 1,200 horsepower, and the 1400R package can boost it up to 1,400 horsepower. The latter can apparently do the 62-mph sprint in 1.9 seconds and run the quarter-mile in 8.2 seconds at 168 mph. Keep going, and it will top out at 220 mph. Now, as a RWD car, it seems hard to believe that street-legal tires can provide enough grip for those numbers to be real, but they sure do sound good.

There’s also no word on what modifications need to be made for the 1200R or 1400R packages. Based on what goes into the 1000R package, we’re guessing there’s a lot more internal work happening. The engine block is probably bored out to make way for larger pistons, and you can bet the cylinder heads are worked over too.

If you’re thinking about taking the dive, you better check in with your bank first. After you pony up at least $60,440 for the Shelby GT350, Fathouse will ask you for another $38,999 – making this puppy a $100,000 car. The 1200R “Turn-Key Package” is listed for $89,999, and the 1400R package isn’t listed with anything more than a disclaimer to “call for an estimate.”
