Ford’s recipe for its 2020 SEMA Auto Show lineup was simple. Use popular models in the lineup, give them concept makeovers, and let everyone know about all the custom tuning possibilities that can be done to these models. It doesn’t come as a surprise that, in addition to the Ranger and the F-150 trucks, Ford chose the Bronco to its SEMA lineup and created two concepts out of the returning nameplate. One of these concepts is called the MAD Ford Bronco Sport Badlands Overland. Ford teamed with MAD Industries to create this concept, which shows the capacity of Ford’s newest SUV to be as adept in the outdoors as it is on concrete roads. It’s a dream-come-true concept for Bronco fans who have been clamoring for ways to customize the Bronco and turn it into a legitimate 4x4 off-roader.

What should we expect from the MAD Ford Bronco Sport Badlands Overland Concept?

The 2020 SEMA Auto Show was supposed to be the Ford Bronco’s coming-out party. With all the jacked-up SUVs and trucks that typically dominate SEMA, the Bronco would’ve undoubtedly been one of the stars of this year’s event. But, alas, the coronavirus pandemic put a screeching halt to those plans, forcing everyone to take their SEMA debuts online instead. None of that, though, mattered to Ford. Whether it was in Las Vegas or over the Internet, Ford’s SEMA plans for the Bronco would not go to waste.

This brings us to the MAD Ford Bronco Sport Badlands Overland Concept. The concept SUV is heavy on the aftermarket feels. Ford, with a lot of help from MAD Industries, developed and created the new Overland concept with one objective in mind: show the Bronco’s die-hard truths how the all-new 4x4 SUV can be transformed in different ways, including as an all-terrain camper that you can take on your weekend adventures to God-knows-where.

The Overland concept is based on the Bronco four-door wearing Badlands trim. That serves as the foundation of what is a significant transformation. The SUV’s body doesn’t dramatically change visually, but the addition of a Ford Performance modular steel bumper and a winch in the front, not to mention the soft-sided Yakima two-person rooftop tent that’s mounted to a factory rack. There is a front Rigid light bar and six Rigid pod lights for lighting the path forward while also creating a 360-degree perimeter. The set of 35-inch BF Goodrich KM3 Mud Terrain off-road tires are also part of the setup, though the tires, as well as the 17-inch alloys and the front and rear differential locks, are part of the Sasquatch package of upgrades.

The real highlight of this concept, however, is the tailgate. This is where the Bronco Overland really turns into a weekend warrior. There’s a drop-down food preparation table that comes in handy with the portable stove. You’ll also spot an ARB fridge with sliding doors and a cooler right next to it. The setup isn’t probably to the best of maximizing the available space in the tailgate, but we’re not complaining about the contents, either.

The concept looks great. Should we expect Ford to build a production version?

Not because Ford already built the production version. It's called the Bronco or, to be more specific, the Bronco Badlands. The point of showcasing the Bronco Overland isn't about Ford releasing a new version of the Bronco; it's about showing future owners of the SUV all the custom tuning avenues they can take when it comes to modifying their Broncos. This isn't a concept of a future vehicle that we haven't seen before. This is a concept of an upcoming vehicle that can be customized, personalized, and tuned in different forms for different functions.
