Roush Performance is no stranger to building tricked out programs for Ford products over the years. The Ford specialist is at it again with a new kit developed specifically for the Blue Oval’s best-selling pickup, the Ford F-150. The Roush package is available on either the F-150 XLT or F-150 Lariat trims. It’s loaded on all fronts with exterior and interior upgrades to go along with performance improvements that are meant to give the F-150 an even more imposing off-road presence. You can even score optional goodies that aren’t available in the package. The cost of buying Roush Performance’s new program for the 2020 Ford F-150 starts at $13,750.

Preparing a program of this caliber is no easy task, especially for a vehicle like the Ford F-150. Fortunately, Roush Performance can rely on years’ worth of experience in this space. The noted Ford specialist is responsible for some of the most impressive aftermarket builds for Ford models, and when it came to building one for the 2020 Ford F-150, Roush knew exactly what to do.

As far as exterior upgrades go, the tuner went all-out. Depending on what you want to see in your Roush F-150, you can ask Roush to add hood graphics, accent stripes, and a windshield banner. You can even add a USA flag into the mix and have the tailgate blacked-out. Optional vanity upgrades also include a power strip graphic, rocker graphic, and splatter graphic. There’s no shortage of how you can dress up your Roush F-150, and that only covers the visual aspect of the exterior upgrades.

Move to the more functional side of the equation and you can score Roush’s trademark front grille with its integrated signature lighting. The grille looks a lot like the one found on the F-150 Raptor and it gives the truck’s front section a more imposing appearance. The upgrades continue on the sides of the F-150 with the larger fender flares, which come with integrated lights. The program also comes with “R” puddle lamps that illuminate the floor when you open the doors of the truck. The truck’s rear section also benefits from a smattering of upgrades, none more useful than the bed-mounted light bar located on the tail end of the F-150’s roof. Should you wish, you can also purchase a retractable aluminum bed cover as an option.

The 2020 Roush F-150 sits on a set of 20-inch black wheels wrapped in General Tire Grabber ATX LT305/55R20 tires. You can go several different ways on how you want to dress up your Roush F-150, but all the same, your truck’s colors and graphics doesn’t change the fact that the Roush F-150 package enhances the F-150’s exterior in more ways than one.

Interior

- Roush premium leather package - Console Vault - Roush gauge cluster - Roush floor liners from WeatherTech - Serialized badging

In fact, there are far fewer upgrades in this section of the truck than the exterior. Most of the available upgrades are options so you don’t even have to get them if you don’t feel the need to.

Take the Roush premium leather package, for example. It’s not available in the standard package that Roush is offering, but it should be something that you consider regardless, if only because it brings out an improved level of quality in the cabin of your F-150. You can even go the extra mile and secure the optional “Console Vault” that Roush can set up within the center console. Another option that’s worth considering is the off-road utility kit. Again, it’s not a required addition to your F-150, but if you’re going all out with your truck, you might as well secure the utility kit. Who knows, you might end up having good use for it somewhere down the (off)road.

There are standard interior upgrades, too. It’s just that they’re not as prominent or even as significant as the optional digs you can acquire. The Roush F-150 package comes with a Roush-branded gauge cluster and floor liners, the latter of which are sourced from WeatherTech. And just so it’s clear to everyone that this your truck is a 2020 Roush F-150, the tuner is also adding serialized badging in the interior, indicating the truck’s outright exclusivity.

The rest of the interior comes in standard form if you don't choose any of the aforementioned options. That’s not necessarily a bad thing because the F-150’s cabin is probably one of its most underrated strong suits. The seats, for example, are more comfortable than you’d expect. Combine that with the premium leather package and they should only get more comfortable. The F-150’s cabin is also surprisingly well-appointed, particularly when it comes to technology.

Without going into detail, check out some of the tech goodies that you can expect in the F-150.

-* Twin-panel moon roof

-* Dual-zone automatic climate control

-* SYNC infotainment system

-* Eight-inch touch screen display

-* Navigation

-* 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system

-* Satellite radio

-* Bluetooth

-* Wi-Fi hot spot

More than you’d expect, right?

Powertrain and Performance

- 5 available engines - Horsepower: 250 - 290 HP - Torque: 265-440 lb-ft - up to 30 mpg - Payload Capacity: 1,990-3,270 lb - Maximum Towing Capacity: 7,700-11,400 lb

Based on that, an array of powertrain options are available depending on the trim you choose. Be advised, though. There are no engine upgrades included in the Roush F-150 package. Let’s establish that before you start expecting anything significant on that end.

If you decide to avail of the Roush F-150 package on the Ford F-150 XLT trim, you have five — yes, five — engine options to choose from:

-* 3.3-liter V-6 engine that produces 290 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque.

-* 2.7-liter turbocharged V-6 that unleashes 325 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.

-* 3.5-liter turbocharged V-6 engine that develops a tidy 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque

-* 5.0-liter V-8 engine that packs 395 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.

-* 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 diesel engine that produces 250 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque.

The Ford F-150 Lariat, on the other hand, comes standard with the same 2.7-liter turbocharged V-6 engine that produces 290 ponies and 265 pound-feet of twist. Three other engines are available for this particular trim of the F-150:

-* 3.0-liter turbo V-6 diesel with 250 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque

-* 3.5-liter turbocharged V-6 engine with 375 horses and 470 pound-feet of torque,

-* 5.0-liter V-8 that packs 395 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.

The available versions of the 2020 Ford F-150 come standard with a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive as standard. There is, however, the option to go for four-wheel drive capability.

Fuel mileage will depend on the engine you choose, but as it is, the smaller the engine, the more mileage you’re going to get out of it. The entry-level 2.7-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine (standard in the Lariat, available in the XLT) returns 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. Opt for the bigger 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 unit (available in the XLT and Lariat) that produces 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque and the fuel returns can reach 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The biggest engine of the lot - a 5.0-liter V-8 unit that produces 395 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque — (available in the XLT and Lariat) returns 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.

Meanwhile, the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 engine with 250 horses and 440 pound-feet of torque has fuel returns of 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

In the world of payload and towing, the Roush F-150 should be able to carry anywhere from 1,990 pounds in payload capacity to somewhere in the vicinity of 3,270 pounds depending on the trim and engine that you choose.

In the absence of any form of upgrades to any of the F-150’s engines, Roush instead focused on improving the pickup’s riding and driving ability.

A dual-tip performance exhaust system is also part of the package, albeit as an optional addition. Add this to your cart and you get a setup that can be adjusted between four modes: touring, off-road, sport, and custom. The setup comes with the Roush Active Exhaust phone app, which you can download on your smartphones, allowing you to customize the sound that comes out of the exhaust.

Pricing and Availability

The Roush F-150 Package starts at $13,750. That doesn’t include all the optional parts and equipment that you can also score if you’re interested in any of them. Throw in the cost of a Ford F-150 XLT or Lariat — prices range from $34,510 (the starting price of the F-150 XLT) to a little over $50,000 for the top-of-the-line Lariat — and you could be looking at spending anywhere from $48,000 to $75,000 depending on how many optional parts and equipment you throw into your purchase.

Final Thoughts

The Ford F-150 is one of the most popular vehicles in the U.S. market. It’s also one of the most customized vehicles in the market. The latter is partly due to the truck’s identity as a go-anywhere vehicle. Those who buy the F-150 rarely buy one and keep theirs in stock condition. Some form of aftermarket upgrade will be done at some point in the pickup’s life. That said, if you’re looking for one of the best Ford tuners in the business, look no further than Roush Performance.

The Roush F-150 is the latest in a long line of Ford models that have been given the full-on Roush treatment. It’s not as comprehensive a program as some would prefer, but the contents of the kit are extensive enough that a few omissions aren’t that big of a deal. Besides, Roush knows what makes a good F-150 package, and the tuner delivered as much with the Roush F-150. Now, all that’s left to do is check out what constitutes the program and find out if there’s room to drop on in your Ford F-150s.
