It’s barely been a couple of days since the Bronco was launched but we already have aftermarket tuners pouncing all over it to give it their own twist. The first company to do so is Saleen Automotive. Saleen has already put out a kit for the Bronco that pays tribute to the old Bronco that took the Baja 1000 by storm back in the 70s. There isn’t a lot known about it yet, but from the looks of it, it seems pretty sweet.

Saleen Has Customized The 2021 Ford Bronco In an Unexpected Way
The tuner put up a few images of the customized Bronco on its website. You can expect Saleen to replace many body panels on the Bronco with its own components. The bumpers, fenders, and quarter panels are all new units. The renderings also feature the Olympia Beer sponsorship and the same paint job as the original Big Oly. A robust skid plate can be spotted at the bottom as well.
Saleen has also equipped an LED light bar on the bumper, roof, as well as near the A-pillar. Mimicking the iconic Big Oly, there’s a pretty large rear wing present. Saleen has listed the equipment it will be offering on its Bronco build. They include:
- Front bumper with integrated LED light and forged carbon skid plate
- Grille surround in forged carbon with Baja Blue accent color
- Composite front fenders with integrated forged carbon fender vents
- Power Hood
- Dual A-pillar mount LED driving light and roof-mounted Pro 8 light bar
- Rocker panel guards
- Body color removable roof with modular roof rack
- Composite rear fenders and quarter panel
- Adjustable rear roof spoiler
- Rear tire carrier and rear bumper
- ‘Big Oly’ inspired winning livery with Olympia insignia and Baja Blue accent
What’s The Big Oly All About?
The Bronco that won the Baja 1000 back-to-back was nicknamed the ‘Big Oly’. It was driven by the famed IndyCar racer Parnelli Jones on both occasions. There are split opinions on whether or not the Big Oly was a Bronco.
Some argue that it was just built from the ground up and was just made to look like a Bronco, whereas some people opine that it was constructed on the Bronco frame.
Anyway, we’ll leave that to you to decide. The name came to be as part of the sponsorship from Olympia Beer. Before that, it was known as the ‘Crazy Colt’.
The Big Oly was built using a tubular steel frame and a lightweight fiberglass body. It was powered by a 351 Windsor V-8 engine. It featured a wing on the roll cage that used the principles of an aircraft’s wings in reverse. Instead of helping it take flight, the wing helped apply the necessary downforce that kept the Bronco grounded.
Despite hundreds of accessories and packages available for the new Bronco from the company itself, it will be a hot favorite for the tuners once the deliveries begin. The Saleen ‘Big Oly’ Bronco looks exciting and we can’t wait for more details to be revealed.
