The 2021 SEMA Auto Show is going the virtual route because of the coronavirus pandemic. That’s a bummer for those who were looking forward to their annual pilgrimage to Sin City, but automakers have long adapted to the situation. Instead of attending auto shows like SEMA to unveil their newest creations, automakers have now gone digital, showcasing their latest offerings online.

Ford is one of those companies, and tonight, the Blue Oval is hosting “Ford Auto Nights,” a special webcast where the automaker plans to unveil its 2021 SEMA Auto Show lineup. That lineup includes the F-150 Limited Hybrid SuperCrew by BDS Suspension, a project truck that Ford created in partnership with BDS Suspension to showcase the automaker’s all-new Pro Power Onboard mobile power generator.

What can we expect from the Ford F-150 Limited Hybrid SuperCrew by BDS Suspension?

The F-150 Limited Hybrid SuperCrew is, in some ways, similar to the Bronco Badlands Sasquatch 2-Door Concept. Ford isn’t touting anything new about these two models; instead, the automaker is showing the customization potential that both models carry, particularly in terms of how they’re used in specific situations.

In the F-150’s case, the truck’s Pro Power Onboard mobile power generator unlocks all sorts of usable applications for F-150 owners. That’s especially true for those who use their trucks as extensions of their workspace. All sorts of tools and equipment can be powered by the mobile generator during work hours and when the weekend hits, all these tools and equipment can be replaced with adventure gear and all sorts of other supplies that set the truck up to be the perfect outdoor companion.

BDS Suspensions’ involvement in the development of the F-150 Limited Hybrid Supercrew is still unclear, but seeing as he company has “Suspensions” in its name, we could be looking at a slew of improvements to the F-150’s chassis and suspension setup that could prove mighty useful when the truck hits the outdoors. You can tell by the renderings that the truck is equipped with a lifted suspension that also opens a bit of space for the massive offered tires to fit. A front skid plate and a rear bed rack in all sorts of accessories can also be seen from the renderings. The latter is an expected sight considering that Ford’s new mobile generator plays a huge role in establishing the identity of this custom-build F-150.

What's the Pro Power Onboard mobile power generator?

Some folks might find it weird that Ford and BDS Suspension worked on a custom F-150 truck with one of its features being a mobile power generator. But there's more to it than that.

Ford’s Pro Power mobile generator is basically an onboard AC system that allows you to access electricity in remote locations without any trouble. This is especially handy for Ford F-150 owners, a lot of whom find themselves needing access to electricity where they can plug their tools and equipment without so much of a drop in hassle. The Pro Power mobile generator is Ford’s answer to that; it makes access to electricity convenient and as straight-forward as possible.

Of course, the SEMA concept isn’t just about the mobile generator; it’s also about all the things that you could do with an F-150 that’s equipped with the mobile power unit, whether you're inside your garage or you're in the outdoors.

Is there a real-world application for the Ford F-150 Limited Hybrid SuperCrew by BDS Suspension

It depends on what you do with your Ford F-150, but it certainly doesn't hurt to have the Pro Power mobile generator in tow. It's one of the most significant additions to the F-150 in recent years, and it's something that, in hindsight, Ford should have developed a lot earlier. But don't expect all the elements from this custom truck to hit the market anytime soon -- if it does at all.
