Ford is yet to gift the Mustang with an all-electric powertrain. Of course, we now have the Ford Mustang Mach E electric SUV but indisputably, that’s not even close to what the Mustang stands for. There’s also the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400, but that’s hardy a road-legal vehicle.

That said, Aviar Motors set up to do what Ford won’t for the time being. In the process, the Russian EV start-up found time to bake in a 1960s twist into its all-electric Mustang, which instantly doubles the (silent) muscle car’s cool factor. Here’s all you need to know about the Aviar R67.

Aviar R67 - the idea that sparked the project

Before we jump into the juicy stuff, it’s important to put things into context, because we need to explain why the Aviar R67 looks the way it does. There’s a simple answer for that, actually: Aleksey Rachev, Aviar founder, is a massive fan of the 1960s. Naturally, he also loves that era’s muscle cars - hence the R67, a vehicle that wants to catch the spirit of the legendary cars of the ‘60s with a modern approach - hence the all-electric powertrain.

Vintage Mustang looks… Tesla underpinnings

Like, heavily based. Aviar uses a lot of parts from the Model S, including the batteries, the e-motors, gearbox, suspension setup, and power cables. The sleek ‘Stang body, however, is made out of composite materials. That works two-fold – it adds rigidity but also keeps weight in check for a lightweight overall build.

Here come the mouthwatering specs

Courtesy of two electric motors, the R67 packs 840 horsepower – on par with Mitch Medford’s Zombie 222 all-electric Mustang. Torque is yet to be revealed, but whatever it is, it’s enough to propel the EV muscle car from zero to 100 kph (62 mph) in 2.2 seconds, so we’re thinking something in the region of 1800 pound feet would be a realistic figure. Top speed is 250 kph (155 mph), and we’re told maximum range is 507 kilometers (315 miles) thanks to a 100-kWh battery pack – obviously not with the pedal to the metal.

Power and torque slam the asphalt on all four corners – so this is an AWD electric Mustang – and as far as harnessing the hefty performance goes, the R67 packs electronic stability and traction control and ABS. You’ll also be glad to know that the Tesla Model S internals it uses make it compatible with Tesla Supercharger stations.

What’s the interior like?

Simple would be the best word to describe the cabin. Except for the two displays – one’s the instrument cluster while the other (17 inches in size) sits vertically on the center console – there’s not much to write home about design-wise. The air vents look very Mercedes-y, and Aviar says it can fit the R67 with a sunroof and “premium class genuine leather trim.”

Other amenities include:

-* Custom audio setup with 7 speakers

-* Wi-Fi connectivity

-* Keyless entry

-* Voice control

-* Dual-zone climate control

-* LED lighting

-* Heated steering wheel

-* Heated seats

-* 5 airbags

-* Reverse camera

Can I have one?

You certainly can, just not right now. Aviar didn’t say how much the R67 costs, as it didn’t offer any hint whatsoever on when could booking and delivery kick off. When that happens, expect quite a hefty price tag of the six-figure variety.
