The Mustang gets turned up to eleven

LISTEN 03:05

The aftermarket scene is not lacking performance upgrades for the ongoing Ford Mustang. Variety is the name of the game even when it comes to body kits and aero bits and bobs, although few tuners can deliver so much subtle rawness as Roush does.

25 years have passed since the first Roush-imbued Mustang hit the street, hopefully without taking a bite from the curb after a failed drift. Joke aside, we are here to tell you more about Roush’s Stage 3 kit for the V-8 2021 Ford Mustang.

The Performance

Long story short, Stage 3 in Roush literature means 750 horsepower and 670 pound-feet of torque squeezed out by means of supercharging the Mustang’s 5.0-liter V-8.

0-60 mph takes 3.6 seconds and conquering the quarter mile takes about 11.2 seconds, which is basically dancing on the supercar border and customers get to choose between a 10-speed automatic and the opportunity to row their own gears via a six-speed manual.

If 750 horses are not enough and your life motto is more powah baby, then Roush will gladly unlock 25 more horsepower through an optional upgrade, shifting the tally to 775 horsepower.

Since Roush encourages customers to take their Stage 3 ‘Stang to the track, improvements have been made to the MagneRide suspension and the stock tires have been swapped for Continental ExtremeContact Sport rubber. We are told that a Roush Stage 3 Mustang can pull off 1.07 Gs on the skid pad, so there’s your selling point sorted. Stopping power comes from a Brembo front braking system.

The Looks

This being Roush, every visual add-on bears its well-determined functionality. For example, the front fender and hood vents are there to help cool off the engine during heavy use and the subtle chin spoiler works to reduce overall drag.

Additionally, you can fit an active carbon fiber rear wing that is focused on track driving. The wing is electronically-actuated and synched with the Roush active exhaust modes feature that lets owners adjust the level of growl coming from those rear pipes through an app with three pre-set levels – Touring, Sport, Track – and a fully configurable one – Custom.

The cabin gets its own dose of flair thanks to premium leather upholstery in various colors and an optional Amaretto leather treatment. The dash gauges are custom, as are the gearbox lever and the shift paddles, while the door sills are now illuminated.

The Price

Preorders are now open for the Roush Stage 3 which starts at $25,995 without, of course, the donor vehicle. A brand-new 2021 Ford Mustang 5.0 starts at $36,120, so to stretch it a bit, you’re paying twice the price of a base V-8-powered Mustang for the Roush treatment.

At that time, he was too young to know how they worked and way too young to drive them, but he could see one thing – each of them had a different ethos and their own unique personality. As time went on, he started seeing that in other cars as well, and his love for the automobile was born.  Read full bio
