Customers in the U.S. have been craving the Ranger Raptor since it was announced for other markets. Ford has denied giving the pleasure so far, but there is news of the Ranger Raptor finally heading Stateside when the 2022 Ranger arrives. Since that is still some time away, the Blue Oval has decided to give us a taste of what to expect by introducing the Tremor off-road package for the mid-size pickup truck. While it is no Raptor, it is a lot more capable than the existing FX4 off-road package. Ford has priced the package at $4,290, but the catch is that is won’t be available on all the trims.

What Makes The Ranger Tremor Special?

The biggest highlight of this package are the FOX 2.0 remote-reservoir shocks on all four corners. These come with retuned springs and hydraulic rebound stops for a comfortable ride on tarmac, and softer anti-roll bars for better handling around the corners and off the roads. The suspension travel range at the front is now increased to 6.5 inches, whereas the rear increases to 8.1 inches, thanks to a multi-leaf rear spring setup.

Apart from this, the Ranger Tremor also benefits from:

-* Frame-Mounted Steel Front Bash Plate

-* Underbody Skid Plates

-* Rear Locking Differential

-* Two New Tow Hooks At The Rear

The Tremor also features a Terrain Management System with four drive modes and Trail Control function. Ford says the traction control system here is recalibrated to offer better acceleration and improved traction off the road. The truck also takes a wider profile now because of the all-terrain tires and wider fenders.

Is There Anything Different On The Inside And Outside?

The Ranger Tremor features a few changes on the outside as well as inside the cabin. For starters, it receives aesthetic upgrades in the form of big Tremor stickers on the sides of the truck, similar to the ones seen on the Super Duty models. Optional hood and body package can be purchased for extra moolah to further upgrade the appearance. The grille up front is now painted in black and gray with distinctive red “nostril” accents.

You also get to control accessories like winches, lights, and air compressors, courtesy of the six-switch auxiliary power bank mounted to the dash. These are rated to take loads of 25 amps, 15 amps, and 10 amps on one switch each, and three switches at five amps each.

The End Result

Thanks to all the upgrades, the Ranger Tremor approach angle is now rated at 30.9 degrees, departure angle at 25.5 degrees, and the breakover angle at 24.4 degrees. These are up by 2.2 degrees, 0.1 degrees, and 2.7 degrees, respectively, when compared to the base Ranger. The towing and payload ratings are not affected despite these add-ons. The Ranger Tremor can tow up to 7,500 pounds and haul up to 1,430 pounds.

Final Thoughts

The Tremor continues to be powered by the 2.3-liter, four-cylinder engine that dishes out 270 ponies and 310 pound-feet of twist. It is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. 2021 Rangers equipped with the Tremor Off-Road Package will be built at Michigan Assembly Plant and will start rolling out in the first-quarter of 2020.
