When you buy a truck, you also want to take it out off-roading. But with the new generation F-150, the only ones that are actually off-road-ready are the Tremor and the Raptor trim levels, which, of course, are very expensive - one is priced at $51,200 and the other one at $68,675.

Now, however, Ford announced a more affordable version. It will be called the 'Rattler' and will be based on the XL series, with elements borrowed from the FX4 package.

What makes the 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler special?

From the FX4 package, the new Rattler package gets the skid plates and the electronic locking rear differential. To make it even more appropriate for off-road experiences, Ford equipped the truck with Hill Descent Control for precision throttle and braking on steep descents, and specially tuned off-road shock absorbers for increased stability over tough terrain.

The car rides on a new set of painted 18-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in rugged all-terrain tires. To further identify the model, Ford placed some "F-150 Rattler" badging on the fender vents and rattlesnake-inspired graphics, and equipped a dual exhaust system.

There are eight exterior colors offered at some extra cost: Oxford White, Avalanche, Iconic Silver, Carbonized Gray, Antimatter Blue, Stone Gray, Agate Black, and Rapid Red TriCoat.

For the interior, the new Rattler package adds Onyx seats with bronze accents. The same bronze color is applied to the stitching on the instrument panel in order to give the truck a desert-inspired theme.

"Our new F-150 Rattler offers aspiring adventurers an off-road option with expressive looks and capability in one package," said Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager. "This truck builds off the F-150 off-road legacy while allowing us to introduce new customers to the right blend of styling and value in the F-150 lineup."

The new 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler will go on sale in the fall of 2022. Prices will be revealed at a later date.
