Unveiled at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, the Ford Ranger is set to return to American dealerships after a very long absence. However, pricing and some important information remained a mystery. Now, the truck’s configurator showed up earlier than expected on Ford’s official website, revealing cab options and specific pricing. I say earlier than expected because Ford has taken the page down shortly after it made headlines.

Ford’s New 7.3-Liter V-8 May Go Old-School with Pushrod Valve Actuation
It’s no secret that ford needs to replace its 6.8-liter, Triton, V-10 that’s currently found in heavy-duty trucks. It was originally expected to be replaced by a 7.0-liter V-8, but a reliable source to someone at SVT Performance has opened the door to speculation that we could eventually see a 7.3-liter V-8 that rocks out a cast-iron block and pushrod valve actuation. That’s right, a step backward from the OHC setup automakers have been using a lot lately.

First hitting the scene in 2009, the Ford F-150 Raptor is essentially a big, bad, burly variant of the ever-popular F-150 pickup truck, offering off-road enthusiasts all the trimmings for tackling Mother Nature’s trickiest terrain. Upgrades include a more aggressive exterior, a taller ride height, and a monster motor under the hood, and now, Ford is improving the package even further with fresh high-tech suspension bits.

Video of the Day: Watch A Sleeper-Spec Ford Territory Crossover Lay The Smackdown At The Drag Strip
Hey! Wake up! It’s time for your weekly dose of sleeper awesomeness, this time coming from the fine folks over at 1320 Video. What we’ve got here would appear to be a rather benign-looking Ford Territory, a mid-size crossover produced between 2004 and 2016 by Ford Australia. Sure, it’s got big bronzed wheels and a window banner, but admit it - you wouldn’t look twice at this thing if it pulled up next to you on race day.
Of course, that would all change as soon as the lights turned green. That’s because the owner of this unassuming Blue Oval packed nearly 900 horses under the hood thanks to a stonking big turbocharger with all the trimmings. Paired with the same 4.0-liter inline six-cylinder that Ford installed at the factory; it’s a rip-roaring beast of a drag machine, churning the rubber with such vigor it smokes the tires halfway down the strip. At one point, the driver even has a bit of a moment, going sideways off the track in his enthusiasm.
All told, this daily-driven full-interior streetcar can manage 9’s - that is, if it actually manages to hook up. Clearly, the Aussie’s know what’s what when it comes to making big power and low passes. Oh yeah, and check out the license plate, which reads “XSPSI.” Nice touch!
Comparison: Is the GMC Sierra AT4 a Solid Alternative to the Ford F-150 Raptor?
GMC just launched a new-generation GMC Sierra that redefines the luxury pickup truck segment through its imposing looks, premium interior, and segment-first carbon-fiber bed. But General Motors also used the new Sierra to introduce a new model line for GMC vehicles. It’s called the AT4 and adds extra features inside and out and a lift kit. With the Sierra more capable in off-road terrain in this setup, truck enthusiasts can’t help but wonder whether the AT4 is a good proposition for the mighty Ford F-150 Raptor. To answer this question, I’m going to have a closer look at both trucks in the comparison below.
Believe it or Not, Ford Considered a 13-Speed Automatic Transmission for the Ranger Raptor
Ford Australia’s new 2019 Ranger Raptor has made a splash over the last week with its debut in Thailand for the Asia Pacific market. It packs a 2.0-liter turbodiesel and Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission it co-developed with General Motors. Just a few years ago, the industry thought eight-speed automatics were revolutionary. But according to John Fallu, the transmission and driveline engineering manager for Ford Asia Pacific, his team explored the possibility of 12- and 13- speed automatic gearboxes.
The Ranger Raptor is one Mean Little Truck
It’s only February, but doesn’t it feel like we’ve already seen a good amount of new pickups make their debuts this year? It’s hard to complain, though, because these new pickups are showing that they have a lot to offer. The most revealing among these new trucks is the Ford Ranger Raptor, the off-road version of the Ranger pickup that looks like it’s ready to rumble on any road surface it meets. It’s hard not to get excited about the Ranger Raptor, especially when you watch this hype video of the gnarly beast going bonkers in the desert. Not only does it look like it’s at home in that environment, but if you didn’t know any better, you would think that it’s smashing records at the Baja Rally. I never knew a pickup could make my knees weak like the Raptor Ranger just did.
Ford Has A New Package For the Edge That’s Making a Chicago Debut
The new Ford Edge isn’t done making headlines. Fresh off of unveiling the 335-horsepower Edge ST at the Detroit Auto Show, the Blue Oval is following that up with the launch of a new trim package for the crossover. It’s called the Titanium Elite Package, and it’s scheduled to debut at the Chicago Auto Show this week.

2019 Ford Edge
The Ford Edge has been around since 2007 and its current generation debuted in 2015. But the second-generation Edge was getting a little, well, dull, so Ford has given the mid-size crossover a sharpening. This mid-cycle refresh for the 2019 model year brings revamped aesthetics, few minor changes to the interior, and a slew of active safety equipment. In fact, Ford is claiming the 2019 Edge comes with more standard driver assist features than any of its competition.
So what makes the Edge so technologically adept? Well, the standard safety features list is long. It includes Forward Collision Warning and Dynamic Brake Support; Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection; Blind Spot Information with Cross-Traffic Alert; Lane-Keeping Alert; Lane-keeping Assist; Auto High Beams; and Hill-Start Assist. 2019 Ford Ranger
Well, it’s back. The Ford Ranger mid-size pickup has returned to the U.S. and in glorious fashion. The pickup made its debut at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit right beside the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado. While it’s not the F-150, the 2019 Ranger will put Ford back in the mid-size pickup fight against the Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon, Nissan Frontier, and most importantly, the venerable Toyota Tacoma.
The addition of the Ranger positions Ford as having the widest-spread pickup lineup in the world. Entries include the new Ranger, the half-ton F-150, the heavy-duty Super Duty lineup, and the commercial medium-duty segment with the F-650 and F-750 cab chassis.
Of course, the Ranger will have its work cut out; the Toyota Tacoma has long been the leader in mid-size trucks and the General Motors twins aren’t too far behind. Let’s see how the 2019 Ranger stacks up.

Ford And Roush Giving 2018 F-150 V-8 a Supercharged Punch
Remember the Ford F-150 RTR Muscle Truck from the 2017 SEMA show? Well, Ford Performance and Roush Performance are paring yet again to bring the Muscle Truck’s muscle to customers nationwide. Ford will offer a Roush supercharger kit for the 2018 F-150’s 5.0-liter V-8. The roots-style blower will be installed at Ford dealerships by ASE-certified Ford technicians and come with a Ford-backed warranty.
Don’t think the F-150’s V-8 is no dud from the factory. Rather, the 2018 update brought ten more horsepower and 13 more pound-feet of torque for a total of 395 and 400, respectively. Adding the supercharger is said to bring levels to 640 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque! That’s impressive. Other modifications would include a re-flash of the ECU, a new high-flow intake, and likely an exhaust system. Naturally, with this being a dealer add-on part, anybody willing to pony up the cash can get the extra power – regardless of what trim or cab configuration their 2018 F-150 has. Imagine a single cab, short bed F-150 with 640 horsepower. Oh, wait… one Ford dealership already has.
Ford has not released pricing for the Roush Performance supercharger kit or the shop fees for installation. We do know the blower will become available sometime in early 2018.
This Ford F-150 By CJ Pony Parts Is the Ultimate Rock Climber
The 2017 SEMA Show was packed with modified pickup trucks, but none was as spectacular as this EcoBoost-powered rock climber built by CJ Pony Parts. The aftermarket parts supplier has been a constant presence in Las Vegas in recent years, showcasing a restomod 1965 Ford Mustang built with TMI Products, a custom Focus ST with Ford, and a beefed up Mustang EcoBoost with Ford Performance. In 2017, CJ Pony Parts chose to stay away from the car performance realm and opted to create a stunning off-road-equipped F-150 pickup truck.
Already a solid truck thanks to its aluminum body, leading technology, and fuel-efficient engines, the F-150 is now able to tackle the Moab Easter Jeep Safari alongside the most hardcore Jeep Wranglers out there. CJ Pony Parts says that its goal with this build was to create something "that not only looked tough but can back up that look with massive off-road capability," it seems that the result matches the description. Exterior upgrades are numerous, starting with Lund fender flares, custom two-tone paint with orange graphics, and a rear differential cover. There’s also a T-Rex grille; Rigid Radiance LED lights, Rock Slider side steps, and new Stealth Fighter and Honey Badger bumpers front and rear. The truck also features an Oracle Lighting ColorShift LED underbody lighting kit.
The list of accessories continues inside with a Raptor steering wheel with orange stitching, Ford Performance door sill plates, custom headrests with CJ Pony Parts logo, and orange accents on the dashboard, door panels, center console, and floor mats. But the really important upgrades were operated under the skin.

Ford Debuts Limited Trim on 2018 Super Duty and It’s Expensive
New vehicle prices have drastically risen over the last two decades, with pickup trucks leading the surge. Now, Ford is pushing the envelope even further by launching the Limited trim on its 2018 Super Duty Lineup. First seen on the 2015 F-150, the Limited trim had not been offered on Ford’s heavy-duty pickup line. That’s changed now, along with the max price somebody can pay for a pickup.
Check every option box on a 2018 F-450 Limited and the price can soar to $95,750!
Even the “base” price for a Super Duty Limited is expensive. For $82,130, Ford will sell you an F-250 version. That’s nearly $10,000 more than the 2017 F-250 Platinum, the Super Duty’s current top trim. Of course, it doesn’t matter what weight class Super Duty you pick, the Limited trim comes standard with just about every conceivable feature and creature comfort available in anything short of a Maybach or Rolls Royce. Two-tone leather front seats have 10-way power adjustability, heating, venting, and massage functions. A panoramic moonroof spans nearly from the windshield to the rear window. Power-folding side steps, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and full LED lighting are also present.
Tech features include Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system with its 360-degree camera system and innovative auxiliary camera for attaching to the rear of a trailer. It has adaptive cruise control with collision warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring for both the truck and trailer, and an 8.0-inch productivity screen in the gauge cluster that hosts a bevy of information, including drivetrain parameters, tire pressure monitors for the truck and trailer, and other customizable screens. The Super Duty even has Ford’s Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature, which allows the driver to maneuver the truck and trailer in reverse by twisting a dash-mounted knob in the direction the trailer should travel rather than having to think about counter-steering with the steering wheel.
Naturally, the Super Duty Limited has the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 turbodiesel for pulling heavy loads. It boasts 440 horsepower and 925 pound-feet of torque, which is enough to pull 32,500 pounds via a gooseneck trailer in the F-450. The Super Duty can also tow 21,000 pounds from its receiver hitch and haul 7,630 pounds of payload in its aluminum cargo box – all when the right cab, bed, and drivetrain combination is chosen.
Ford has said in the past that customers of high-end, heavy-duty pickups are typically hauling expensive things, like a million-dollar yacht or a $200,000 horse trailer with a prize-winning stallion riding inside. It’s no wonder, then, why these customers won’t mind spending six-figures on their tow rig.

2017 Ford Explorer – Driven
Okay, mom and dad – you need a vehicle that can carry six or seven people, but isn’t a minivan. What left on the menu? Three-row crossovers and SUVs, of course. And which SUV has been SUVing longer than most? Yep, the Ford Explorer. It debuted back in 1991 and has evolved from a utilitarian two-row brute to a plush, luxury-lined, power-everything family hauler. The current generation has been around since 2011 and received a mid-cycle refresh for 2016, which brought the high-end Platinum trim with Lincoln-like levels of refinement and the 365-horsepower 3.5-liter EcoBoost.
Nothing changes for 2017, but that didn’t stop me from spending a week with Ford’s grandest mid-size SUV. The Explorer is sandwiched between the smaller Ford Edge and the body-on-frame, F-150-based Ford Expedition. The Platinum trim comes equipped with nearly every major option as standard, only leaving customers to choose from the $695 second-row bucket seats, the accompanying $150 center console, and the $1,995 rear-seat entertainment package. Fitted with all but the rear TVs, my Ruby Red tester stickered at $55,420. That’s a sizable price for a family hauler, but few SUVs come packed with such utility mixed with luxury backed by a name with heritage.

2018 Ford F-150
Ford has reworked the F-150 for 2018 with cosmetic updates, new active safety systems, and some healthy powertrain upgrades. A new front fascia and modifications to the taillights and tailgate constitute the exterior changes, along with new wheel choices. Adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keep assist are now present, too. But the biggest changes happen under the hood.
Ford has upgraded nearly every engine option. The base 3.5-liter V-6 has been replaced with a new 3.3-liter V-6 with more power and better efficiency. Both the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 and 5.0-liter V-8 have been improved with more power. Ford’s 10-speed automatic now comes standard on all but the base V-6. Best of all, an all-new 3.0-liter Power Stroke V-6 turbodiesel joins the lineup. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 carries over unchanged, though it received a huge update for the 2017 model year. The same is true for the 2017 F-150 Raptor’s High-Output 3.5-liter EcoBoost. The F-150 is Ford’s biggest seller and highest profit-maker, so it’s completely understandable why Ford pays it so much attention. The current F-150 debuted for the 2015 model year, so it’s not really old. In fact, it still remains the newest full-size, half-ton pickup among the Big Three – beating the Chevy Silverado by a year and the Ram 1500 by six. Only the 2017 Nissan Titan is newer.
Update 08/09/2017: EPA estimates for the 2018 F-150’s fuel economy have been released. Efficiency improves for the base V-6, the 2.7-liter EcoBoost, and the V-8. Towing and Payload stats are also announced.

Mercedes-Benz X-Class Vs. The Competition
Mercedes-Benz just made quite the splash when it dropped the new X-Class. Framed as the first truly “upscale” pickup truck, the X-Class intends on redefining the midsize segment with unprecedented levels of luxury and refinement. It might seem like a strange combination to mate luxury with pickups, but as Mercedes points out, “the number of pickups for private use is increasing. They are no longer viewed purely as workhorses.” As such, the X-Class aims to broaden the pickup’s buyer appeal, seeking out folks like “land owners and farmers in Argentina, business owners and building contractors in Australia, families with an affinity for premium products in Brazil, trend-conscious individualists in South Africa and Great Britain as well as sporty adventurers in New Zealand and Germany.” Sounds like quite the collection of buyers. But here’s the thing – is the X-Class really all that revolutionary?

Ford Builds First Truck 100 Years Ago Today
Ford is celebrating 100 years of making pickups today. It was July 27, 1917 that Ford introduced the Model TT pickup. It was based on the hugely popular Model T, but came with a stronger frame built to carry 2,000 pounds in its cargo bed. A meager 209 examples were built that year. Now, a century later, Ford’s F-Series pickups continue the legacy build by Henry Ford with trucks ranging from the half-ton F-150 to the commercial medium-duty F-750 Super Duty. Nearly a million examples sold in 2017, each costing a bit more than the Model TT’s price of $600.
Henry Ford designed the Model TT to accommodate aftermarket beds, allowing the truck to cater to an endless number of industries. Yet, the Model TT used the Model T’s cab and engine, helping cut costs while streamlining Ford’s genius of an assembly line production. Remember, it was Mr. Ford who started producing vehicles on an assembly line with the Model T just nine years prior. Amazingly, this concept hasn’t changed. Ford trucks continue to share parts, like the cab section between the F-150 and the updated-for-2017 Super Duty. Between 1917 and 2017, Ford has built dozens of generations and variations of its pickups, including more unique examples like the car-based Ranchero and the compact Ranger. 2018 Ford Explorer Sport
The Ford Explorer has defined the American SUV segment for more than two decades, having debuted for the 1991 model year. Changes both big and small have kept the Explorer, well, exploring urban and rural landscapes across the U.S. with big sales figures sliding across Ford’s bean counters’ desks. But of all those updates, Ford’s latest might be the smallest. Insignificant? Not really, but you’d have to be a fanboy to spot the differences.
Headlining the changes for the 2018 model year is a slightly reworked exterior, new active safety equipment packages, and more choices with four new colors and five new wheel designs. These changes made their debut at the 2017 New York Auto Show.
These modifications to the Explorer come in response to market research Ford says indicates the crossover and SUV segments will be the fastest-growing of all segments over the next few years, soon accounting for more than 45 percent of all non-luxury vehicles sold in the U.S. While that’s not surprising, Ford says millennials and baby boomers are leading the way. Of course, Ford says it will be ready to meet this growth thanks to its new lineup of crossovers and SUVs. These include the EcoSport, Escape, Edge, Explorer, and Expedition.
The revised 2018 Explorer is expected to hit showrooms this fall, with pricing staying mostly stagnate with current 2017 Explorer pricing. Keep reading for the full run-down of the changes for 2018.

Look Out Perps! Ford Launches Police-Prepped 2018 F-150 & Expedition
Ford is updating its lineup of Special Service Vehicles to include the updated 2018 F-150 and all-new 2018 Expedition. The pair joins the Taurus-based Police Interceptor Sedan and Explorer-based Police Interceptor Utility. Altogether, the foursome provides the widest vehicle array designed for police and government use by any one automaker.
The F-150 and Expedition SSV are fitted with special equipment designed to accommodate aftermarket upfiting with warning lights, communication radios, and laptop stands. The XL trim level brings heavy-duty rubber flooring and vinyl seats for easy clean up. Even the front 40/20/40-split bench is replaced by a 40/blank/40-split bench to accommodate center command consoles – all to make the F-150 and Expedition ready for duty. Furthermore, the gear shifters are column-mounted for more free space down low.
Ford is limiting the drivetrain choices for the F-150, allowing only the revamped 5.0-liter V-8 and the new, second-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6. Both are connected to the new 10-speed automatic transmission. The Expedition is solely powered by the EcoBoost engine and 10-speed automatic. A 3.73 ratio and limited slip are standard in the Expedition’s rear differential. A high-output 240-amp alternator provides more power than the standard unit, making enough juice to power the bevy of equipment often found in police vehicles.
Police departments and other government agencies can order their vehicles with either RWD or 4WD. The F-150 is available in both SuperCab and SuperCrew configurations, while the Expedition only comes in its standard length.
“While our Police Interceptor Utility remains the best-selling law enforcement vehicle in the country by a large margin, some agencies need to haul five people with higher equipment-carrying capacity, or off-road capabilities are required,” said Stephen Tyler, Ford police brand marketing manager. “That’s where the F-150 SSV and Expedition SSV come in.”
The F-150 and Expedition SSVs are not pursuit-rated, so don’t expect to see one involved in a high-speed chase, though both the V-8 and EcoBoost should have no trouble hitting triple-digit speeds. The SSV packages should become available in the latter parts of 2017.

The 2018 Ford F-150 Will Have Night Vision!
Ford has developed a new nighttime pedestrian detection system and will introduce it on the 2018 F-150 pickup, along with the 2018 Mustang and European-spec 2018 Fiesta. The system is designed to help drivers better detect people walking along the roadside in low-light conditions. Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the European Road Safety Observatory show that pedestrians are far likelier to be hit at night. While it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand why, Ford is taking logical steps to help reduce the problem.
The system works by processing information from the bumper-mounted radar system and the windshield-mounted camera. That info is digitally compared against an onboard database of “pedestrian shapes.” Should the system detect what it believes is a person, an audible tone and visual warning light alerts the driver to danger. Should the driver not take action and the system detect an imminent impact, it will autonomously activate the brakes.
The Nighttime Pedestrian Detection System will be an available option for 2018, though it will likely become standard on high trim levels soon after. In the years to come, expect to see such technology incorporated within every vehicle’s autonomous driving system.
