GMC’s smallest crossover goes Johnny Cash

The GMC Terrain is getting the Nightfall treatment, debuting as a special edition package on the refreshed crossover. The 2016 model year brought new looks for the Terrain, and now, the five-passenger people hauler is getting the “murdered-out” look for 2017.

“Building on its best year ever, Terrain continues to attract new and style-conscious customers to GMC,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of GMC Sales and Marketing. “The new Terrain Nightfall Edition adds another great-looking and well-equipped choice for this popular SUV – one that will stand out in a crowd.”

The Terrain is the latest GMC to get the Nightfall appearance package, joining the Canyon Nightfall Edition. Both vehicles offers black wheels, black grilles, black front and rear fascias, and of course, black paint. The Terrain also joins the GMC Sierra All Terrain X as a “personalized” offering from the automaker. GMC hopes to attract buyers hungry for something less mainstream while still getting all the everyday usability found the crossover.

The 2017 GMC Terrain Nightfall Edition goes on sale in the fall of 2016. GMC has yet to disclose pricing, but expect GMC to charge a hefty premium. Opting for the Nightfall Edition on the 2016 Canyon results in a $4,815 price increase.

What makes the GMC Terrain Nightfall Edition special

GMC says the Nightfall Edition is a “stylized special edition combining blacked-out exterior details and wheels, with popular technologies.” In other words, GMC makes all the exterior details black, while bundling several of the most popular interior options together. Let’s have a look.

Outside, the Terrain’s chrome grille is replaced with a black version. The three horizontal slats and honeycomb mesh insets are still present, but lose their flashy colorings. The GMC logo, on the other hand, still retains its bright chrome surround and red letters. The bumper, mirror caps, roof rails, and door handles are all matching black. The 18-inch wheels are also uniquely colored to the Nightfall Edition. The spokes are coated in a body-matching gloss black, but are accented by polished aluminum along the facing.

That polished aluminum complements the chrome accent on the GMC logo, as well as the chrome trim along the side windows. Other bright spots include the headlights and fog lights. And while it makes the most sense to order your Nightfall Edition in Onyx black, GMC does offer the package in Graphite Grey Metallic, Summit White, and Crimson Red metallic.

On the inside, the Nightfall Edition Terrain comes standard with GMC’s IntelliLink infotainment software and 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. The Nightfall Edition is only available on the mid-grade SLE-2 and range-topping (non Denali) SLT trim levels.
