What Makes The GMC Terrain Black Edition Special

The GMC Terrain Black Edition brings some fresh premium aspirations to the five-door compact utility vehicle, focusing on exterior styling to help it stand apart from the pack.

As you might expect from the name, the GMC Terrain Black Edition gets darker exterior trim and details, adding a dash of personalization options for those buyers who want a little more curb appeal.

Kicking off the list of upgrades is a set 19-inch aluminum wheels with a gloss black finish. Up front is a darker grille insert with a black grille surround, while black was also added to the side-view mirror caps and roof rails. There’s also black exterior badging declaring the model nameplate and trim level.

The GMC Terrain Black Edition is offered in five separate exterior colors, including Ebony Twilight Metallic, Summit White, Graphite Gray Metallic, and Satin Steel Metallic. There’s also Sedona Metallic, which is new for the 2019 model year.

The rest of the spec goes unchanged, and includes a five-passenger interior layout with a standard leather-wrapped steering wheel and smartphone support via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Motivation is provided by a 1.5-liter gasoline powerplant making upwards of 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. Output is routed through a nine-speed automatic transmission, with either FWD or AWD onboard to make it stick.

“Internal sales data shows that roughly one in five new SUV buyers spends additional money after purchase to personalize their new vehicle’s appearance,” the brand says. “Black Editions answer the specific desire for a blacked-out effect and come direct from the factory ingrained with distinct personality.”

The Black Edition is available for the 2019 model year of the Terrain and Acadia, and can be had on either the SLE or SLT trim level.
