More than two months after unveiling the Ford Mustang Heritage Edition, Hennessey is back at it with another special tuning program, this time for the Ford F-150 Raptor. Filed under the same “Heritage Edition” name, the F-150 Raptor gets a steady dose of upgrades, covering aesthetic, mechanical, and performance upgrades. Hennessey ties a bow on its mad creation with an engine upgrade that jacks up the V-8 engine’s output to 758 horsepower.

Exterior

You’ll immediately notice that the Ford F-150 is wearing a similar livery to the Ford Mustang Heritage Edition. That’s part of Hennessey’s Heritage Edition gimmick, and while it does work on the Mustang — and the Ford GT Heritage Edition from which all of these are based on — it doesn’t come off as well on the F-150 Raptor. The red body finish isn’t the problem. The red grille and the red center logo are eyesores that nobody should be allowed to see. The good news is that the F-150 isn’t lacking in the wheels-and-tires department. As part of the Sport Kit Upgrade, the pickup boasts a set of 22-inch wheels.

If you’re not flying with the color-set that Hennessey chose, you can alleviate that by signing up for the tuner’s Off-Road Package. This kit comes with new front and rear bumpers. Five LED lights are also available, all of which can be installed into the front bumper. The Off-Road Package also includes a set of 20-inch Hennessey 10-spoke wheels wrapped in 35-inch Toyo Off-Road tires.

Interior

The Ford F-150 Heritage Edition’s interior remains largely the same as the standard model. There are a few goodies that Hennessey is throwing in, namely the embroidered headrests and a plaque on the dashboard with a serial number denoting the number of models that Hennessey is offering.

Other than these two items, Hennessey didn’t do too much to the F-150 Raptor’s cabin to give it an identity of its own.

Drivetrain

At the heart of Hennessey’s Ford F-150 Heritage Edition are comprehensive improvements to the engine and chassis of the high-performance pickup. The multi-hit combo also includes an air-to-water intercooler, high-flow air induction, increased boost pressure, and upgrades to the fuel injector and fuel system. The tuner’s engine management calibration system slams the engine upgrades home.

All told, the 450-horsepower F-150 Raptor now boasts a whopping 758 horsepower. Hennessey didn’t announce improvements on the pickup’s torque, but we expect it to get a significant bump, as well. All these components play important roles in creating a more potent engine for the F-150 Raptor. With the touted numbers from the dyno, including 570 horsepower sent to the rear wheels, the F-150 Raptor Heritage Edition packs a serious punch. The tuner’s also throwing in a stainless steel cat-back exhaust system so that the extra shot of power won't go unnoticed wherever the F-150 Raptor Heritage Edition goes.

Outside of the standard performance upgrades, Hennessey is also offering a pair of packages — the Sport Kit Upgrade and the Off-Road Upgrade — that can alter the F-150 Raptor’s ride height depending on the package you choose.

If you prefer your F-150 Heritage Edition to be more capable in the outdoors, you can opt for the Off-Road Upgrade, which comes with a front suspension leveling kit and a 3.0-inch lift.

Final Thoughts

For those who are unfamiliar with the history of the Heritage Edition, Hennessey is tipping its hat to the 2018 Ford GT Heritage Edition, which made its debut last year as an homage to the 1967 Le Mans-winning GT40 driven by A.J. Foyt and Dan Gurney.

I’m not a big fan of how the color scheme turned out on the F-150 Raptor, but even I can’t deny that the engine upgrades on the almighty pickup are too impressive to ignore. Combine that with Hennessey’s tried-and-established standard of excellence and it’s hard to find any holes in this new program for the high-performance pickup.
