The Accord Hybrid is just another mid-size sedan with very similar dimensions to its prime rivals. The curb weight depends heavily on your trim selection, so you will find it to be between 3,326 pounds and 3,446 pounds. The EX-L has the same color options as the base trim. The Accord Hybrid’s performance is not bad at all, and don't think it performs like the Toyota Prius. It has a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter gas engine, which puts out 143 horses and 129 pound-feet alone. When combined with the electric motors, the extra 69 horses and 103 pound-feet make all the difference. The electric motors cut out the jerkiness and sluggish nature of the naturally aspirated engine. So there is ample power under your right foot from the get-go. To simply put, the Accord Hybrid’s performance is between the standard 1.5-liter turbo four-pot and the slightly more powerful optional 2.0-liter turbo four-pot. As a result, it takes about 7.1 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour and 15.7 seconds to reach a quarter-mile. The Accord Hybrid will speed up to 116 miles per hour before hitting the limiter. Both the Camry Hybrid and the Sonata Hybrid are slightly slower in the overall accelerations compared to the Accord Hybrid, by about a second in the 0-60 tests.

Engine and Transmission

The Accord Hybrid makes use of the same 2.0-liter engine from the gas-only Accord, sans the turbocharger, and is paired to twin electric motors. The combined output is 212 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque. There is an eCVT mated to the 2.0-liter engine and drives the front wheels only. AWD is not available throughout the models, and that is completely fine as it might have lowered the fuel economy. Compared to the Camry Hybrid and the Sonata Hybrid, the Accord Hybrid is slightly more powerful. The Camry Hybrid puts out a combined 208 horses, while the Sonata Hybrid puts out 192 horses. Driving in city limits is where you will hardly complain about the Accord Hybrid, as Honda, like other brands, has prioritized comfort over everything else. But thanks to the stiffer chassis, the Accord Hybrid handles quite well when you are speeding up on the highways. We only wished that the steering wheel feedback could have been better while retaining a slight heftiness when taking fast corners. If you want a better handling configuration, then the top-of-the-line Touring would be the one to go for. It comes with adaptive dampers, which will make the drives more engaging than the standard setup. The overall braking feel is not the best, but not mediocre either. According to independent tests, the Accord Hybrid takes 171 feet to come to a standstill from 70 miles per hour.

As a hybrid sedan, the Accord Hybrid should be impressive in terms of offering good fuel economy, and it does. If you have read our Honda Accord review, you will know how comfortable and easy-going the interior of this mid-size sedan is. Moreover, the build quality is very good. We wouldn’t say that it's the best in terms of look and feel, as the Camry Hybrid is not stepping away and neither is the Sonata Hybrid, which we think has a more modern-looking cabin. The Accord Hybrid’s interior has a lot of features baked-in throughout the trim list. There are soft touches around the cabin, including fake wood trim on the door panels and dashboard. A leather-wrapped steering wheel is not fitted as standard and is available from the Sport trim. An analog-digital instrument cluster houses in front of the driver. Unfortunately, like the Sonata Hybrid, there is no optional fully digital driver’s display. The climate control knobs and other HVAC buttons are ergonomically placed under the central air vents. The center console has the push-button gear selector on the driver’s side and two cup holders on the passenger’s side. We like the Accord Hybrid’s cabin for its minimalism, and Honda has hit the right spot in offering other upmarket features throughout the trims.

Seating and Interior Space

As standard, there is cloth upholstery, which is not as bad as it sounds, particularly for the segment. The cushioning is nice and squishy, but they are a lot better with the leather upholstery found with the EX-L and the Touring. A power-adjustable driver’s seat comes standard, except the base trim. The EX-L and the Touring come with driver seat memory functions, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, and heated front seats. The latter trim even has rear heated seats for enhanced rear-seat comfort. At the beginning of the review, we did state that Accord Hybrid is more than your average crossover SUV. What we actually meant was that its cabin is spacious to the point where you will question us like “is this true?”. Yes, it is greatly spacious for a mid-size budget sedan. The front row measures 39.5 inches of headroom, 58.3 inches of shoulder room, 55.3 inches of hip room, and 42.3 inches of legroom. What is more interesting is that the rear row has a lot of legroom and headroom too: 37.3 inches and 40.4 inches. Compared to the front row, the shoulder room suffers by about two inches, but the hip room remains very similar. The Sonata Hybrid suffers greatly in the rear row comfort, as it has only 34.8 inches of legroom. The Camry Hybrid, on the other hand, has a respectable 38 inches of rear legroom and similar headroom of 37.6 inches. The rear legroom is not as spacious as the Accord Hybrid, but is far better than the Sonata Hybrid.

Interior Colors and Materials

The interior colors majorly depend on the trim you choose, which means that the base and the Sport trim have just one interior color option, which is black. The materials used are mainly cloth and leatherette as standard. The EX-L and the Touring share ivory-colored interiors with leather inserts. The Touring has a perforated leather interior, making it stand apart from the EX-L. For the price, we think that the materials used inside the cabin are sufficient. You can fit up to three full-size suitcases along with a few duffles, if you want to travel with the Accord Hybrid. If compared to the Camry Hybrid and the Sonata Hybrid, the Accord Hybrid is ahead by about a cubic foot. The cabin also offers ample space for small items. There is a fair-sized glovebox, a center console box, cupholders, and door pockets at your disposal.

We love how the Toyota Camry Hybrid looks and is a lot better-looking than the Accord Hybrid. To be honest, we feel that Toyota was planning for a sports sedan but later changed its mind. Both the Accord Hybrid and the Camry Hybrid have great feeling interiors with ample features on offer. While both the sedans' front rows are large and comfortable, the Camry Hybrid's rear row has two inches shorter legroom than the Accord Hybrid's. The Accord Hybrid packs a slightly larger boot space for better practicality, but better fuel economy is slightly bagged by the Camry Hybrid.
