Honda launched the 11th gen Civic sedan not too long ago. Now, the automaker has unveiled the hatchback version of it as well. Honda revealed the 2022 Civic Hatchback at the Civic Tour “Remix” virtual concert. The hatch shares most of its traits characteristics with the sedan, but comes with a tinge of sportiness in terms of looks as well as drivability.

The 2022 Civic Hatchback is fairly loaded in terms of creature comforts and comes with the same engine options as the sedan – a 2.0-liter and 1.5-liter turbo option. To make the deal sweeter, both the mills will be available with a six-speed manual gearbox. Also, the 2022 Civic hatchback will be manufactured in the U.S. for the first time ever.

The 2022 Civic Hatchback comes with a tinge of euro-styling this time around. Up front, it comes with a slim grille that inculcates the headlights as well. The air dam at the bottom is flanked by fog light housing, thus giving the front fascia a rather sedate appearance. It has more of a coupe-like profile now. The LX rides on 16-inch wheels, EX-L in 17-inch wheels, and Sport and Sport Touring in 18-inch wheels.

The automaker said that the A-pillars are moved rearward by 1.96 inches, its wheelbase is 1.4-inches longer and the rear track is 0.5-inch wider when compared to its predecessor. It measures 179.1 inches in length, 70.9 inches in width, and 55.7 inches in height. It has a 107.7-inch long wheelbase. The rear overhang and overall length are 4.9-inches shorter than the Civic sedan's.

The Civic Hatchback also comes with a sleeker roofline and a lightweight tailgate. It features a new hinge mechanism that allows a roof height reduction of 50 mm in the hinge area. Honda noted that the 2022 Civic Hatchback will be offered in eight different shades; two of which are new – Boost Blue Pearl and Smokey Mauve Pearl. Overall, the hatchback may look sedate, but it packs a lot of character and is arguably smarter than its sedan-sibling.

Instead of going berserk inside, Honda has opted for a minimalistic, no non-sense approach. The cabin is clean and uncluttered, which shows Honda has opted for function over form. Everything in here is practical and usable. The instrument cluster is seven inches in all the trims except for the top-spec Sport Touring, which comes with a 10.2-inch screen.

The three trims other than the top Sport Touring come with a seven-inch touchscreen system on the center console. The top trim features a nine-inch touchscreen system, which is the biggest ever offered on a Civic. The seven-inch systems support wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, whereas top-trim is compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

All the trims also come with the Honda Sensing safety suite as standard. It includes:

2022 Honda Civic Hatchback Drivetrain

The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback will be offered with two engine options. The engine will be offered with a CVT as standard, but you can also have it with an optional six-speed manual gearbox if you want the trills of three pedals. This, however, can be had only if you opt for the Sport or Sport Touring trims.

The other engine is a four-cylinder, turbocharged mill that displaces 1.5-liters. It produces 180 horses at 6,000 rpm and 177 pound-feet of torque between 1,700- and 4,500 rpm. The same set of transmissions are available here, too.

The 2022 Civic Hatchback rides on a new aluminum front subframe with an efficient truss and rib structure. It features a new steering and suspension setup. It features new rear lower control arm to keep it stable during straight-line sprints. Apart from this, there are some new additions like low-drag front brake calipers, low-friction front and rear wheel bearings, etc.

The pricing is not revealed, but it could be on par with the sedan. The 2022 Civic sedan is priced as follows:

Conclusion

As mentioned earlier, the Civic Hatchback will be manufactured in the U.S. for the first time ever at the company’s Greensburg plant in Indiana. The reason for this is the shutting down of Honda’s Swindon plant in the U.K., which used to be the Civic hatchback’s birthplace. It shouldn’t be much of a problem for the automaker as the Civic sedan is being manufactured here for 35 years now. The 2022 Civic Hatchback will arrive at the dealerships later this year.
