Back in July, 2021 Honda trademarked a new name: "TrailSport" - and everyone was asking what is the name going to be applied to. After that, at the beginning of September, 2021, we got a first teaser that revealed the answer: the TrailSport was going to be a sub-brand that will be mostly applied for SUVs and trucks. Its purpose? To "bring a more rugged design and off-road capability."

And now, we have the first look at the first model to get the TrailSport treatment: the Passport. It will go on sale in the winter of 2021 and will be "even more emotional and adventurous, further advancing Honda's new rugged design direction for light truck lineup."

What's different on the 2022 Honda Passport TrailSport's Exterior Look?

The 2022 Passport TrailSport will benefit from the same redesigned look we will see in the rest of the Passport lineup. And that includes a more aggressive look from the A-pillars forward, an updated rear bumper, and larger exhaust finishers. But, there will be a few elements that will further differentiate the TrailSport models.

In general, the front and rear bumpers will be a little bit more aggressive with prominent skid garnish painted silver. The same orange TrailSport badge will also be placed on the tailgate, while the Passport and AWD badges will be painted gloss black. In the rest of the lineup they are painted in chrome.

The Passport TrailSport front and rear tracks were increased by 10 mm (0.4 inches) - a move that will not only make the car look better, but will offer improved stability.

How about the interior?

The interior is mostly the same as any other Passport, but it will stand out thanks to its orange contrast stitching on the steering wheel, door panels, and seats. An orange TrailSport logo is also embroidered on the front seat headrests and molded onto the standard all-season rubber floor mats.

The gauge cluster features a black chrome gauge surround and offers the same new gray lighting and white needles as the rest of the Passport lineup.

Powertrain

Under the hood, the 2022 Passport TrailSport has the same 3.5-liter V-6 engine as the rest of the lineup.

As a standard feature, the TrailSport offers Honda's i-VTM4™ torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system that enhances controllability and traction management. This means that 70% of all the torque delivered by the engine is being sent to the rear wheels, and all this torque is being distributed between the rear wheels depending on the driving conditions at each wheel.

Conclusion

Honda promised that the TrailSport launched now will further be improved in the upcoming years. More aggressive tires and off-road tuned suspension are on the top priority list.

Until then, the 2022 Honda Passport TrailSport is set to go on sale in the winter of 2021 and we have to admit it doesn't look bad at all. All we need to see is if it will indeed offer better off-road capabilities when compared to the standard Passport.
