There’s nothing we can say to further boost the Civic’s (and subsequently, the Type R’s) icon status among car nuts. But times are changing and with the current push for electrification, even such a revered moniker as the Type R is likely to adopt the trend sooner or later.
Recent info in that direction comes from within Honda’s official ranks. Apparently, there are folks over at Honda who believe in the possibility of an all-electric Type R-badged car, especially since the Japanese carmaker should begin mixing its performance-oriented cars with less polluting powertrains.

Honda didn’t forget about those Type R customers that live for track days and track days only, so it came up with a more circuit-oriented, limited-run Civic Type R that can only be had in one body color.

The current-generation Honda Civic Type R has been around since 2017. It caused a ruckus when it first arrived, but like all things hyped, the frenzy surrounding the Civic Type R died down. Expectations among fans and customers were satisfied and it wouldn’t be until Honda gave the Civic Type R a mid-cycle refresh that the hype once again started to rise to a crescendo.
Well, that time has come. Honda unveiled the updated Civic Type R at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show with a few notable upgrades on its bodywork and its mechanical components.
Here’s What We Know So Far About The Adorable Honda e
Honda launched its cute little EV at the Geneva Show in 2019. The e features retro looks with modern technology and that caught everyone’s attention. Although the prototype was first seen in 2017, the e was in near-production form at last year’s Geneva show.
In September 2019, more details followed, and now, Honda has finally revealed all the details for this urban commuter. Honda had initially planned to get the e to the States first, but decided to launch it in Europe due to fear of low demand there. Here’s what Honda has revealed until now:
The Honda S2000 20th Anniversary Edition Makes Us Yearn for the Roadster’s Return
The Honda S2000 hasn’t been in production since 2009, but that’s not stopping Honda from celebrating the roadster’s 20th anniversary at the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon in January. As part of the celebration, Honda is showcasing the S2000 20th Anniversary Prototype, a modern-day interpretation of the second-generation S2000 AP2, which was discontinued exactly a decade ago. Honda currently has no plans to revive the S2000, so the 20th Anniversary Prototype is most likely a special effects package that will be offered to existing owners of the S2000 AP2. The package includes a body kit, though there are reports that an upgraded suspension will also be included. Engine upgrades, however, are unlikely to be part of the package.
If you’re someone that likes the little all-electric Honda e, then I probably have two bits of information that aren’t going to make you very happy. The first one, you’ve probably already heard – the Honda e isn’t coming to the North American market despite the fact that it would be rather affordable for an EV with a starting price of $37,000. Even if it comes in the future, there’s another bit of bad news: Honda has absolutely zero interesting in doing a hotter Type R version of its first electric hatchback. So, what gives?

The most logical place for an electric vehicle to be used is the city where commutes are quite short and involve a lot of stop and go traffic. That’s why Honda’s first mass-market electric vehicle, called Honda e, is aimed at city driving. But since city cars nowadays have evolved into posh accessories on wheels, it not only needs to perform but needs to look good while doing it.
This is very close to the final production form of the Honda e, and it was recently driven by Robert Llewellyn from the Fully Charged Show YouTube channel. He’s usually quite excited about pretty much anything that is powered by electricity, but in the case of the Honda e, he seems even more thrilled. But why is that?

The FK8 Civic Type R based on the tenth-generation Civic is by far the most insane-looking Civic Type R of the lot and a lot of people out there have been harsh with the car for that very reason. Many say it’s more show than go while you may hear others joking that it was designed so that it will put tuning companies out of business. But this isn’t a car that can only bark and not bite as records on a number of world-renown race tracks will attest. But, for us, the reason why we like this Civic Type R so much is that we can, finally, taste it for ourselves as it’s the first Civic to be sold in the U.S. Let’s hope this is the start of a tradition and not just a one-off opportunity.

Awesome Honda e Prototype Is The Cutest Thing At The 2019 Geneva Motor Show
Revealed in front of a massive black screen, the strikingly white Honda e Prototype was one of the cutest highlights at the this year’s Geneva Motor show. It is still a concept, just like it was two years ago in Geneva, but in this case, the e Prototype is far closer to production. It feels much more real in its efforts to combine modernity of the electric vehicles and emotionally charged retro styling directly linked with early Honda cars. The small electric city dweller with 124 miles of range takes the aim to shoot for the B segment of the European car hierarchy. That will make it a direct competitor to cars such as the Peugeot 208, or the Renault Clio, both of which have been refreshed and unveiled at this year’s show, by the way.

Honda’s 2017 Urban EV concept has evolved into a fully fledged production car - it’s not exactly the same as the design study, with its two extra doors and more conservative proportions, but it’s still going to be a rather unique proposition: a rear-wheel drive all-electric city car with retro-inspired styling.

The Production Version of Honda’s Urban EV Could be Your Next Posh Electric City Runabout
Honda is testing camouflaged prototypes for the production version of its Urban EV concept, and even with the camo, we can pretty much make out the entire shape of the car and most of its details. Unlike the motor show design study, the production version will have five instead of three doors and several additional detail changes.

It turns out the rumors that Honda was eventually going to put its Urban EV Concept from the 2017 Frankfurt motor show into production were true. Our spies have caught what is, evidently, a camouflaged production prototype of that study and, while it does do away with some of the concept’s craziness, it’s still an interesting and unexpected model.
Back at its motor show debut, the Urban EV concept caused quite a stir with its retro-futuristic styling and all-electric powertrain, although it was probably the former that made it unique. Honda seems to have left the overall design mostly unchanged for the production version, the big difference being that it has grown from a three-door into a five-door.
The concept also had rear-hinged (so-called “suicide”) doors, but this production interpretation seems to have regular doors. Another change over the concept has to do with the shape of the rear lights that are now round as opposed to square, mirroring the shape of the front clusters.
It’s also going to be Honda’s first all-electric vehicle for the European market, but aside from that, it’s also apparently going to be a sold as a kind of premium vehicle (according to some rumors), so it probably won’t necessarily be an affordable supermini/subcompact.
2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid
Honda’s first electrified crossover for the European market is the new CR-V hybrid which it introduced at the 2018 Paris motor show. It is the second powertrain option that Honda offers on the Old Continent, after the 1.5-liter turbo shown at the Geneva motor show, and it promises decent performance with excellent economy thanks to its combination of a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine and two electric motors - it also does away with a conventional gearbox.
Instead, it uses a single fixed-gear ratio that sounds quite similar to what the Koenigsegg Regera uses, albeit in a less fancy package - one gear and plenty of electric boost at lower speeds before the engine starts to pick up. Honda offers the CR-V hybrid in both front- and all-wheel drive configurations with the latter only incurring a minimal fuel efficiency penalty.
The North American version of the vehicle will be nearly identical in terms of specs and look to the one revealed in Paris.

Discontinued back in 2009, the S2000 remained the backbone of many modified rides over the years. This white example, nicknamed "Model S2000", is one of the raddest yet. It’s employing parts from the Tesla Model S and the Chevrolet Volt to tear up the dragstrip and seamlessly tick a quarter-mile time of 10.24 without much hassle. And that’s only the beginning.

Graduate students at Clemson University have completed building one of the coolest Honda Civics you’ll ever see. It still looks like the current Civic, but a lot of what lies under the surface has changed, none more important than the car’s powertrain. No longer is this Civic running solely on a traditional gas engine. It still has one in the form of a 2.0-liter, supercharged, four-cylinder engine, but it also features an electric motor that helps bring the car’s total output to 600 horsepower.

2020 Honda S2000 Study
The new 2020 Honda S2000. Just kidding. The rendering before you is actually a work of Jon Sibal - one of the most proficient rendering artists in car world stardom. His latest work revolves around reinventing the Honda S2000 with contemporary Honda (and Acura for that matter) styling philosophy. It seems that Sibal knocked it out of the park with the new S2000 rendering. I find this study looking right in so many ways it is hard not to imagine it under the spotlights of any car show.
Yet, a new S2000 isn’t likely. At least, not in the day and age where fairly cheap roadsters aren’t exactly popular if they are not wearing a premium brand name.
Honda’s New S660 Neo Classic Body Kit is A Love Letter To Japan’s Kei Cars
The Honda S660 Roadster is getting a Kei-infused transformation with the introduction of the S660 Neo Classic body kit. Limited to the Japanese market, the body kit turns the S660 roadster into a retro-styled Kei car in the mold of the S660 Neo Classic Prototype that Honda unveiled at the 2017 Tokyo Auto Salon. The kit costs 1.296 million yen, which converts to a little over $11,000. No; it doesn’t come cheap.

While the Type R may be a bit over the top with its styling, the lesser versions of the latest Honda Civic are definitely exceptional in their compact-car mission.
