2019 Honda Insight
Introduced in late 1999, the Honda Insight was the first production car to feature the company’s then-new Integrated Motor Assist system. It was also the first hybrid launched in North America, arriving in showrooms seven months before the Toyota Prius. Production ended in 2006, after only 17,020 units built, with plans to roll out a replacement in 2009. The second-gen model arrived on time, but this time as a five-door hatchback. The Insight was discontinued for the second time in 2014, mostly due to slow sales. Come 2018, and Honda revived the nameplate with a modern design and a new drivetrain. A pre-production prototype was unveiled at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, while the production model was launched at the New York Auto Show.
"The Honda Insight is anticipated to receive fuel economy ratings competitive with the best hybrids in the segment, with styling that will have universal appeal inside and out and best-in-class passenger volume," said Henio Arcangeli Jr., senior vice resident of American Honda. The redesigned Insight will join four other electrified Hondas, including the Clarity Plug-in Hybrid, Electric, and Fuel Cell, and the Fit EV. Slotted between the Civic and the Accord, the new Insight is now described as a premium sedan, mostly because it has a more elegant exterior design and more modern appointments and convenience features inside the cabin. Honda Insight Returns to Take on the Toyota Prius with Sleek Design, High-Tech Interior
The Toyota Prius’ main competitor for many years, the Honda Insight took a break from the U.S. market between 2006 and 2009 and was again discontinued in 2014. The Japanese hybrid is set to return once again in 2018 with a brand-new design and Honda just previewed its upcoming production model with a prototype at the Detroit Auto Show. A production-ready vehicle at first glance, the new Insight is a significant departure from its predecessor, a scenario we’ve seen before. While the first-gen Insight was a rather weird-looking three-door hatchback with hidden rear wheels, the second-gen model had a more conventional design and five doors. For its latest iteration, Honda went with a four-door sedan configuration, probably hoping to appeal to a bigger crowd.
Honda Insight Returning After Four Years; Prototype Ready for Detroit Debut
Discontinued in 2014, the Honda Insight is about to make a comeback for the 2019 model year. The big news comes from the Japanese automakers, which just announced that a prototype model will be shown at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show in January. Described as a precursor to the all-new model, which will go on sale next year, the prototype is will preview a vehicle described as an "upscale, stylish five-passenger sedan positioned above the Civic in the lineup."
2017 - 2018 Honda Ridgeline
The second-generation Honda Ridgeline made its debut at January’s 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The 2017 Ridgeline replaces the long-tired, first-gen truck that debuted for the 2006 model year and ran until its demise in 2014. The second-generation truck continues to utilize a unibody design, though it’s been thoroughly updated with Honda’ latest generation of crossover platform. It shares much of its structure with the Pilot, called Honda’s Global Light Truck Platform, as well as Honda’s next-generation of ACE body structure.
"We are bringing our unique technology and original thinking to the market in a new and challenging concept for a Honda pickup," said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor. "We think we’ve got a better idea, a truck that uses its unibody construction and Honda packaging magic to deliver more of the things that many of today’s truck customers want and need with none of the things they don’t." Mendel’s quote succinctly nails the 2017 Ridgeline: it’s a truck that has nothing typical truck buyers want and packed with everything they don’t. What? Yep, the Ridgeline is obviously not for the blue collar type who works construction for a living. Honda has purposefully made this truck for those who want a crossover, but need the open cargo bed of a pickup. Folks like weekend road bikers or antique pickers who also daily drive their vehicle. The Ridgeline doesn’t really compete with the other trucks in the mid-size segment, though it may very well become their biggest competitor. The all-new Ridgeline began selling the first half of 2016.

2018 Honda Odyssey Will Bring Some Serious Competition To Pacifica
Honda has pulled the covers off its new 2018 Odyssey minivan. This is the latest iteration of Honda’s popular people-mover now comes with a more powerful engine, a sleek new exterior, an updated dash with new technology, and an innovative seating system in the second row. Called the Magic Slide system, it offers the flexibility of removing the center seat and sliding the outboard seats side to side. The Odyssey also comes packed with Honda’s new CabinWatch and CabinTalk systems. It’s clear the 2018 Odyssey is a big improvement over the outgoing model, but will it be enough to edge out Chrysler’s still-fresh Pacifica?
While the configurable second-row seating is cool, it doesn’t seem as convenient as the Pacifica’s Stow N’ Go seats that fold flat into the floor. The 2018 Odyssey’s biggest draw is the new CabinWatch system. It uses cameras to monitor second and third row passengers, with Mom and Dad keeping an eye on the closed circuit video via the 8.0-inch infotainment screen up front. The cameras are said to work both day and night.
In addition, CabinTalk gives Mom and Dad the ability to speak to rear passengers through their headphones should they be watching the available rear-seat entertainment system. It also works through the rear speakers, much like the Toyota’s Easy Speak.
For those who love being connected to the Internet of Things, the 2018 Odyssey now offers CabinControl – an app-based system that allows smartphone users to remotely control various in-cabin features, such as the rear entertainment system, the rear cabin HVAC system, and forwarding navigation destinations from a phone to the Odyssey’s navigation system.
The Odyssey’s rear entertainment system now offers “How Much Farther?,” an app that lets rear passengers keep track of the navigation route with a countdown to arrival – much like the Pacific’s “Are We There Yet?” system.
Other cool stuff includes Social Play List, which is part of CabinControl. Its said to act like a virtual jukebox, letting up to eight people upload their music choices to the audio system via their smartphone. 4G LTE Wi-Fi is present and several USB ports are scattered around for charging.

Honda Teases 2018 Odyssey Ahead of Detroit Auto Show Debut
The 2017 Detroit Auto Show is just around the corner and, as it happens before each major event, automakers are already teasing the cars that are set to debut at the Cobo Center. Honda is the latest to join the ranks by releasing a teaser picture of the fifth-generation Odyssey. Set to replace the current, six-year-old model at the end of the 2017 model year, the new minivan takes its cues from the JDM-spec version, which has been available in Japan since 2013.
The teaser shot suggests that the upcoming Odyssey will also retain some of the familiar styling cues of the existing model, including the lightning-bolt character line under the side windows, the V-shaped D-pillar, and the large taillights. However, the latter appear to be larger and heavily based on the Japanese model, while also featuring a new C-shaped LED signature. The side panels also seem to have a more sculpted design just above the side skirts, while the vehicle feels lower and wider overall. On the other hand, this is a conceptual rendering and likely depicts a car that’s more aggressive than the actual production model.
Honda has yet to launch a photo of the front fascia, but the Odyssey should carry a sportier design here too. Here, I expect it to borrow some cues from the Pilot SUV, including the angular headlamps and the large grille that descends deep into the front bumper. It should also have a more aggressive bumper design with LED daytime running lights and a wide mesh grille between them.
Inside, the Odyssey will get Honda’s latest technology and a design based on what we’ve seen in recently launched vehicles, including the Pilot. Hopefully the fifth-gen minivan will also get a vacuum cleaner integrated into the trunk. Under the hood, look for a revised version of the current 3.5-liter V-6 connected to either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission. Output should see a mild increase over the fourth-gen models’ 248 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque.

To compliment the strong emphasis on green technology and efficient motoring we’re seeing at this year’s Detroit Auto Show, Honda is making its presence known with a concept hydrogen fuel cell vehicle and the latest iteration of the high-strung VTEC performance motor. It’s a product showcase that caters to both the Earth-conscious commuter crowd and performance lovers, all with that characteristic H-badge pragmatism.
With the 2014 FCV Concept car in Detroit for its North American debut, Honda is looking to round out its already impressive lineup of alternative fuel vehicles, which currently includes the 2015 Fit EV, 2015 Civic Hybrid, 2015 Civic Natural Gas, 2015 CR-Z hybrid, and 2015 Accord hybrid. U.S. availability for a production FCV is scheduled to open up sometime next year, following a March 2016 launch in Japan.
Thanks to an innovative drivetrain and a body shaped to minimize drag, the FCV is expected to come with a range of 300 zero-emission miles, with refuel times approximated at just three minutes. The fuel cell used is 33-percent smaller than that found on the outgoing FCX Clarity, which means the FCV boasts a large cabin with seating for five.
The automaker also unveiled plans for a new VTEC Turbo engine slated for debut at the end of this year. The combination of Honda’s renowned variable timing and lift system with forced induction can only mean one thing: hyper-efficient internal combustion, good for both power and mileage. We’re talking four cylinders and two liters making 300 horsepower and 40 mpg (although that’s just speculation). With $340 million invested in its engine plant in Anna, Ohio, the new VTEC Turbo should start rolling off the assembly line very soon.
Honda says it plans to offer a variety of “advanced powertrain vehicles” in the next few years, including a new battery-electric model, plug-in hybrid model, and additional use of its “two- and three-motor hybrid systems,” all scheduled for release by 2018.

The 2015 Honda Fit is the latest and greatest in the line of fun and funky five-doors from the Japanese automaker. The latest Fit looks to increase power and fuel economy for a more engaging and dynamic drive, while maintaining the practicality and versatility the Fit is known for.
The powertrain of this new Honda is comprised of all-new engines and transmissions, and the entire body has been redesigned and revised to improve stiffness and reduce NVH. The new 2015 car is shorter overall than its predecessor but features an increased wheelbase to improve interior dimensions.

After teasing it for quite some time, Honda unveiled the Urban SUV Concept at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. This concept previews a new small SUV slated to launch in Japan by the end of 2013 and in the U.S. market in 2014.
The new concept features a clean and sophisticated styling, dynamic character lines and a strong stance, with hidden rear door handles giving the SUV a coupe-like presence. It measures 169.3 inches long - 9 inches shorter than the Honda CR-V - making it the ideal vehicle for today’s crowded cities.
The production version will arrive on the market in 2014. It will arrive with fuel-efficient Earth Dreams Technology and with Honda’s configurable Magic Seat setup that can provide a host of passenger and cargo options, including a fold-flat mode for maximum cargo capacity.
The production version will be built at Honda’s newest North American plant near Celaya, Mexico, expected to open in the spring of 2014. The model will be priced and positioned below the CR-V.
We saw the Acura NSX Concept at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show and we were all pretty much amazed by it. Unfortunately, at that time, Honda had no concrete idea of when the NSX would see production, and left us hanging by telling us that it would be in showrooms within three years. Since then, we have speculated about just as far as we can.
Well, according to Auto Express, that speculation may be over sooner than we expected, as it is reporting that a Honda rep said that the production NSX would debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. Oddly enough, this is the same exact show that the 2014 Corvette will debut at. Looks as if we are in for a new-sports-car showdown to launch 2013.
The exact details of the NSX are really unknown, but according to Auto Express’s report, the production NSX will be “identical” to the concept model we saw this past January. Additionally, the Acura NSX will wear a “Honda” badge in the UK, as is standard for many UK-sold Acuras. In the U.S., however, we expect it to retain the Acura name.
We’ll keep an eye out for more information on the upcoming NSX and we’ll watch out for any confirmation from Honda regarding this rumored unveiling.
The calendar might have just flipped over to a new year, but that doesn’t mean that auto show fever is subsiding anytime soon, especially since the 2012 North American International Auto Show just opened its doors. Many automakers are on hand to show off their newest concepts and production models, including Honda and their first preview version of the ninth-generation 2013 model set to go on-sale in Fall 2012. The Honda Accord Coupe Concept shows off a new exterior and interior design, as well as a choice of three all-new powertrains, including the first U.S. application of both a 2.4-liter direct-injected engine and two-motor plug-in hybrid system.
At the front of the new Accord will be a revised four-sided honeycomb grille and deeply set multi-reflector headlights, lower fog-light spoilers accented by crystallized chrome inlays, a trunk -lid spoiler, and larger exhaust finishers integrated into the bumper.
"Marking the 30th anniversary of U.S. production, this new ninth-generation Accord will raise the bar again through a tour de force of new Honda powertrain and safety technologies, geared to ensure that Honda and the Accord continue to lead in fuel economy, safety and fun-to-drive performance," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda.

After years of speculations, Honda is finally taking the first steps in offering a successor for the very prominent NSX supercar with its first concept version revealed at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. The company has promised that a production version will follow in the next three years and will be manufactured at the company’s plant in Ohio.
Not only does the concept revealed in Detroit preview the future NSX supercar, it also presents the first application of Acura’s innovative new Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All Wheel Drive) system. This system combines a unique 2 Electric Motor Drive Unit with a bilateral torque adjustable control system that allows the car to instantly generate negative or positive torque to the front wheels during cornering. The company then throws in their next generation VTEC 3.5-liter V6 with direct-injection and a dual clutch transmission with built-in electric motor.
"This Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system will make NSX the ultimate expression of Acura’s idea to create synergy between man and machine," said Takanobu Ito, president and CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. "The NSX will make the driver one with the car to enhance dynamic driving abilities without getting in the way."
"Like the first NSX, we will again express high performance through engineering efficiency," added Ito, who led the development of Acura’s first NSX supercar. "In this new era, even as we focus on the fun to drive spirit of the NSX, I think a supercar must respond positively to environmental responsibilities."

Updated 04/25/2012: While until now we have seen the new Acura NSX sports car in a gray exterior paint, for the Beijing Auto Show the NSX has dressed a very cool red paint.
Honda is previewing the new NSX supercar with the first concept version set to be released next month at the Detroit Auto Show. But before that happen, British magazine, AutoExpress, a few new details to pacify the masses. The new NSX, built as a Japanese rival to models like the Audi R8, will be a 400bhp four-wheel-drive hybrid model and will be heavily based on the concept car seen on the set of the new Avengers movie.
The hybrid system will combine a 3.5-liter V6 engine driving one axle with a pair of in-wheel electric motors driving the other ones. This system will offer a total of 400 HP and will propel the FWD NSX from 0 to 60 mph in under 5 seconds. The model will be revealed as an Acura badge concept, but on markets like Europe, it will be sold as a Honda.
The biggest news offered by AutoExpress is that the NSX will also be offered as a roadster, but no other details about this model were provided.

With the calendar turning over a new page to 2012, the very first major auto show is set to open its doors in Detroit when the North American International Auto Show welcomes automakers - both local and foreign - to the Motor City.
This year, American brands are coming to Detroit in full force where they will be joined by a number of international automakers in presenting a steady diet of concept cars, production debuts, and just about everything else in between.
Among the notable debuts set to take place include the brand-new 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL, as well as the 2013 Bentley Continental GT V8. German automaker Porsche has also penciled in the 911 Cabriolet for the festivities, while Lexus will be on-hand to display the intriguing and mysterious LF-LC 2+2 sports coupe concept.
As for the local contingent, Ford is leading the way with the premiere of the Fusion global mid-size sedan while Dodge is set to introduce their Alfa Romeo Giulietta-based compact sedan, the Dart.

Honda is intending on providing a little padding for the winter months by bringing back a couple of models for their future lineup. It was already announced that the company would be unveiling the Small Sports EV Concept - the concept that is said to preview the revival of the S2000 - at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show, but word has it that the company is also bringing a new Super Sports concept set to be revealed at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. This new concept is said to preview the future NSX supercar.
The two concept cars provide proof that Honda is in fact working on two new sports cars: a small daily driver for those who want to drive in style and a bigger, more powerful model for those who are looking for greater performance. During a recent interview, President of Honda Motor Europe, Manabu Nishimae, said that Honda "knows that there are customers who want Honda sports cars, and we are developing and intending to deliver products for them."
It is believed that both sports cars will be feature a high-performance hybrid or electric powertrain and both are expected to go on sale by 2013.

As the first major international auto show of the 2011 calendar year, the North America International Auto Show sees no shortage of manufacturers all looking to break in the new year with a bang.
Some make a tremendous impression on all of us, whereas others just fade into obscurity as soon as the show ends. The challenge for these automakers is to make sure that they bring out products, whether its of production material or it’s a concept that will stand out from the rest.
All the happenings of the Detroit Auto Show took at the Cobb Center in Detroit a few weeks ago so we felt it was an opportune time to provide a heads-up of what vehicles served notice at the event.
