Teen Dies After Being Pinned by the Third Row Seat of a 2004 Honda Odyssey
A 16-year-old boy in Cincinnati, Ohio died after getting pinned behind the third-row seat of a 2004 Honda Odyssey. The young man, identified as Kyle Plush, died of asphyxia due to chest compression, even after calling 911 not once but twice. The death has been ruled accidental, but there are still plenty of questions that need to be answered behind the circumstances of his death, particularly the way responders handled his calls for help.
Honda Brings Nothing New to the Odyssey for 2019 Except Higher Pricing
The 2019 Honda Odyssey is now available, and it carries over from that year with next-to-nothing in the way of upgrades. The minivan looks the same, the engines remain the same, and the usual features remain the same. The new Odyssey does come with price hikes across its entire trim, ranging from $150 to $1,000, so that’s something that qualifies as a “change.”
Honda Insight Returning After Four Years; Prototype Ready for Detroit Debut
Discontinued in 2014, the Honda Insight is about to make a comeback for the 2019 model year. The big news comes from the Japanese automakers, which just announced that a prototype model will be shown at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show in January. Described as a precursor to the all-new model, which will go on sale next year, the prototype is will preview a vehicle described as an "upscale, stylish five-passenger sedan positioned above the Civic in the lineup."
2020 Honda Odyssey Type R
There’s no harder transition in the world than for a car guy to move away from his prized bachelor car to daily drive a mom-mobile, aka the dreaded minivan. So, what happens when you want the best of both worlds? Well, you convince Honda to build you a Honda Odyssey Type R. Is it crazy? Sure. But are you going to tell me you would pass up an Odyssey Type R to drive a Chrysler Pacifica, Toyota Sienna, Kia Sedona, or a Mercedes Metris? I doubt it, and you know why? Because this thing is intense in all the right ways. You get all of the Type R goodies, including things like the Championship White paint, Type R wheels and body kit, and even the classic Type R red accents inside. But, what will power a beast like this? Well, we’ll discuss that in a bit.
So here we are, talking about something as crazy as an Odyssey Type R. All the goodness of the ultimate people hauler paired with the aggressiveness, style, and clout of the Type R badge, plus more than enough power to keep you from sacrificing your manhood on days when you have to tote the family around. So with that said, let’s dive in and speculate a bit about the Honda Odyssey Type R and why Honda should greenlight a project like this. You know it will appeal to the tuner and gearhead in all of us.
The Hoonigan Crew And Bisimoto Prove The Fix For Uncool Is More Horsepower: Video
Not too long ago, minivan ownership was akin to admitting defeat, a white flag waved in the interest of replacing fun with practicality. Luckily, that’s not always the case any more. Just ask Bisi Ezerioha, founder of Bisimoto Engineering, who built the above-featured 1,000-horse Honda Odyssey. “I started a young family, and I love cars, I love speed,” Bisi says.” So, I’m a guy who loves speed, loves to go fast, build crazy horsepower, but I have a family now, so what do I do? Build a minivan.” Makes sense to us.
Bisi cut his teeth in the world of speed by setting numerous records in FWD Honda drag racers. These days, he’s running one of the most badass tuner shops in the country – Bisimoto Engineering, based out of Ontario, California. You may have heard the name before. Bisimoto Engineering is responsible for some of the most exciting builds to hit the scene in recent memory, including a slew of jaw-dropping Porsches (here’s one example, a Steve McQueen tribute). Or there’s this 1,000-horsepower Hyundai Santa Fe that graced SEMA last year. With a resume like that, a four-figure Odyssey looks like business as usual. At about just under 20 minutes, the video is kinda long, but worth it to see this slammed people mover killing tires at Hoonigan HQ.

The New Honda Odyssey Stole the Show from Chevy in Detroit
One of the nice things about working for an outlet like TopSpeed is being able to check out the various auto shows during the press preview days, long before the general public is allowed into the show. This year, all of the auto manufacturers had their press events scheduled on the first day, so it was very busy. But, that also gave me the unique opportunity to see the reaction people have toward all of the new cars making their debut. With the Detroit Auto Show being an international event, there’s never a dull moment – that you can be sure of – but I never thought I would see the day that a minivan took precedence over an SUV. More specifically, I’m talking about the Honda Odyssey.
Both Honda and Chevy had big debuts scheduled for Monday and were situated catty-corner from each other. Chevy was pulling the sheet off the redesigned Chevy Traverse pretty early on Monday while Honda was gearing up to show off its all-new Odyssey. When it came to shooting the Chevy Traverse, I had to circle back a few times to get as many shots as I could but, when it came to the Honda Odyssey, I didn’t even have a chance to get close to it the first day of the show. Come the second day, and it took me five passes to finally get a good look inside. And it was, in every sense of the word, amazing. But, as I was waiting for the opportunity to get in there on the second day of the show, I noticed something. The Odyssey was still getting tons of attention while the Traverse’s time in the limelight had come and gone. Have pigs actually grown wings?
To be honest, I think so. I made one final stop at the Honda booth Tuesday before leaving the show for the last time, and Honda was still buzzing like crazy. Don’t get me wrong; people were still interested in the new Traverse, but not like they were when it came to Honda’s redesigned minivan. It was pretty wild to see, and all of the representatives seemed to be pretty happy with the turnout. We’ll have a full review of the new Odyssey up in the coming days, but until then, keep reading to learn a little about it and to see a few pictures I took of it during my time at the show.
2018 Honda Odyssey Will Bring Some Serious Competition To Pacifica
Honda has pulled the covers off its new 2018 Odyssey minivan. This is the latest iteration of Honda’s popular people-mover now comes with a more powerful engine, a sleek new exterior, an updated dash with new technology, and an innovative seating system in the second row. Called the Magic Slide system, it offers the flexibility of removing the center seat and sliding the outboard seats side to side. The Odyssey also comes packed with Honda’s new CabinWatch and CabinTalk systems. It’s clear the 2018 Odyssey is a big improvement over the outgoing model, but will it be enough to edge out Chrysler’s still-fresh Pacifica?
While the configurable second-row seating is cool, it doesn’t seem as convenient as the Pacifica’s Stow N’ Go seats that fold flat into the floor. The 2018 Odyssey’s biggest draw is the new CabinWatch system. It uses cameras to monitor second and third row passengers, with Mom and Dad keeping an eye on the closed circuit video via the 8.0-inch infotainment screen up front. The cameras are said to work both day and night.
In addition, CabinTalk gives Mom and Dad the ability to speak to rear passengers through their headphones should they be watching the available rear-seat entertainment system. It also works through the rear speakers, much like the Toyota’s Easy Speak.
For those who love being connected to the Internet of Things, the 2018 Odyssey now offers CabinControl – an app-based system that allows smartphone users to remotely control various in-cabin features, such as the rear entertainment system, the rear cabin HVAC system, and forwarding navigation destinations from a phone to the Odyssey’s navigation system.
The Odyssey’s rear entertainment system now offers “How Much Farther?,” an app that lets rear passengers keep track of the navigation route with a countdown to arrival – much like the Pacific’s “Are We There Yet?” system.
Other cool stuff includes Social Play List, which is part of CabinControl. Its said to act like a virtual jukebox, letting up to eight people upload their music choices to the audio system via their smartphone. 4G LTE Wi-Fi is present and several USB ports are scattered around for charging.

Honda Teases 2018 Odyssey Ahead of Detroit Auto Show Debut
The 2017 Detroit Auto Show is just around the corner and, as it happens before each major event, automakers are already teasing the cars that are set to debut at the Cobo Center. Honda is the latest to join the ranks by releasing a teaser picture of the fifth-generation Odyssey. Set to replace the current, six-year-old model at the end of the 2017 model year, the new minivan takes its cues from the JDM-spec version, which has been available in Japan since 2013.
The teaser shot suggests that the upcoming Odyssey will also retain some of the familiar styling cues of the existing model, including the lightning-bolt character line under the side windows, the V-shaped D-pillar, and the large taillights. However, the latter appear to be larger and heavily based on the Japanese model, while also featuring a new C-shaped LED signature. The side panels also seem to have a more sculpted design just above the side skirts, while the vehicle feels lower and wider overall. On the other hand, this is a conceptual rendering and likely depicts a car that’s more aggressive than the actual production model.
Honda has yet to launch a photo of the front fascia, but the Odyssey should carry a sportier design here too. Here, I expect it to borrow some cues from the Pilot SUV, including the angular headlamps and the large grille that descends deep into the front bumper. It should also have a more aggressive bumper design with LED daytime running lights and a wide mesh grille between them.
Inside, the Odyssey will get Honda’s latest technology and a design based on what we’ve seen in recently launched vehicles, including the Pilot. Hopefully the fifth-gen minivan will also get a vacuum cleaner integrated into the trunk. Under the hood, look for a revised version of the current 3.5-liter V-6 connected to either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission. Output should see a mild increase over the fourth-gen models’ 248 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque.

The Honda Odyssey began its life way back in 1995 when Honda leaped into the minivan realm with its Accord-powered family hauler. The Odyssey hit its second generation in 1999 when Honda completely redesigned the body, replaced the swinging rear doors with more minivan-like sliding doors, and installed a class-leading, 3.5-liter V-6. The 2005 model year marked the debut of the third-gen Honda people carrier, as the automaker redesigned the van yet again and retuned its V-6 to produce 244 ponies. In 2011, Honda redesigned the Odyssey once again, ushering in the fourth generation, giving it a fuel-economy boost, smoothing out the body and adding in a few extra optional goodies, like an available chill box and rear-entertainment system. As we head into 2015, little has changed with the fourth-generation Odyssey.
I recently spent a week lumbering around in the range-topping Touring Elite trim of this massive minivan, and I found some good things and some not-so-good things about it. Being a sports car guy, testing the Odyssey required me to forget all the things I love about cars and focus on whether this big Honda was a great appliance for those who have more than 2.5 children or not?

For 2014, Honda is refreshing the Odyssey with some mild exterior tweaks, new safety systems, a new center stack design for the infotainment options and offers the world’s first built-in shop vacuum on top-spec Touring Elite trim. Many of the other cool benefits are limited to the Touring Elite spec as well, but the core package of responsive performance, extreme durability and family friendliness continues unchanged for 2014.
The Honda Odyssey is one of the top two minivans in the sales charts, often jostling for position in this declining market segment with the Toyota Sienna. Both the Honda and Toyota vans are actually pretty pricey in their top configurations, leaving the value segment to the Dodge and Chrysler vans, whose combined sales dwarf the Honda and Toyota.
For people who’ve accepted that they need a van, there’s little loyalty at play and these family audiences are happy to jump ship when a better entry comes along. So far, no one has topped the Honda Odyssey since 1999 in terms of total feature count or buyer satisfaction. One could even say that the Honda is the most premium player in the segment, following the discontinuation of the Mercedes-Benz R-class.
The exterior tweaks are not going to cause a rush on showrooms, but are enough to subtly refine the Odyssey’s style in the face of the more-flamboyant Toyota Sienna design. The new 2014 models arrive in July at Honda dealers nationwide.

We knew that Honda was going to present a concept at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show. What we didn’t prepare for was what the Japanese automaker actually showed.
The vehicle, called the Concept M, is an MPV prototype that sure looks like it’s pissed off at the rest of the world. We can’t even begin to tell you just how bad we want to see this concept hit production in the future while keeping the design qualities that made it look completely incredible.
The front profile of the Concept M is the complete achievement in this design. Check out the headlight design and you’ll notice that it’s the same configuration Honda used on the 2012 NSX Concept supercar. That, in itself, is already a winner in our books.
Then you move on to the enormous front grille, which by the looks of it, was designed to terrorize the rear view mirrors of cars in front of it. The intakes are equally imposing and provide even more aggression to one of the most radically designed concept MPVs we’ve seen in quite some time. The rear, meanwhile, is a little more subdued but still has some aggressive details of its own, particularly what looks like a huge chrome bumper guards.
Honda says that the Concept M is a preview concept of a future MPV that will be launched in China soon, "offering the attributes of a passenger car while adding new value through the realization of a comfortable and spacious cabin".
To that, we say "can’t wait!"

The fourth-generation Honda Odyssey was unveiled back in 2011 and for the 2014 model year, the minivan is ready for its first update. The revised Odyssey will make its world debut at the 2013 New York International Auto Show, and, according to Honda, it "further strengthens the Honda minivan’s position as the segment’s most coveted family-friendly vehicle, and adds to its status as the strongest overall ownership value in its class."
No other details have been revealed, but we expect some minor updates to both the exterior and the interior, while under the hood the car will most likely retain the usual 3.5-liter V-6 engine with three-mode variable cylinder management.
Next to the new Odyssey, Honda will also display its complete lineup of fuel efficient, innovative and fun-to-drive cars and trucks, including the 2014 Accord Plug-In Hybrid and 2013 Fit EV.

When the Honda Concept S hit the stage at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show, two models came to mind, the Odyssey and the Jazz. It is slightly larger than your average hatchback, but significantly smaller than the American Honda Odyssey, so the final production name is up in the air. Keep in mind that the Odyssey in some Asian markets has a much lower-slung roof and a shallower windshield rake than the American version, so therein lays the possibility that it could become the new Odyssey.
Of course, production of the Concept S was never a guarantee, as with nearly every concept car. However, when an automaker produces a video on a specific concept car, you can pretty much rest assured that it will hit production in some form or fashion. That is exactly what Honda has done with the above video.
Seeing the video and people actually sitting in the seats, the Concept S really seems to have more of an MPV type of setup. All of that headroom and the spacious rear seats nearly eliminate it as a replacement for the Jazz, which is closely related to the Fit in the States. Then again, maybe Honda is trying to gain an edge by making the Jazz slightly larger than your typical 5-door hatchback.
Either way, we can say that the Concept S’s style is unmistakably awesome and its potential for release just increased 10-fold by Honda releasing this video.
Hopefully we’ll have an announcement on a production model soon. Those in the U.S., you’ll have to sit this one out, as the Concept S looks like it will be an Asian-market model only.
Joining the Honda Concept C in Honda’s stand at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show is the Concept S, a car that’s widely expected the carry the design direction of the future Honda Odyssey.
Similar to the "C" in Concept C, Honda also added symbolism to the "S" in Concept S, which stands to mean "Stylish", "Smart", and "Surprise". Looking at the Concept S, it certainly appears that Honda is venturing into new frontiers with the design of their vehicles. Looking far and away more aggressive than past iterations of the Odyssey, the Concept S comes with a front that shows far more distinct styling, thanks to a completely new grille set-up, slit-like LED front lights, and a swooping hood. Meanwhile, the rear end carries lights that have been merged with the rear window and the chrome strip that runs along the bottom of the boot lid.
Honda has yet to release engine information on the Concept S, but it appears that the Japanese automaker will look in the direction of a hybrid powertrain to put into the production version.
UPDATE 09/12/12: The first official video of the Honda Concept S was released recently showing the concept vehicle out and about on the road. No word yet on whether there’s a production future for the car, but with the release of this video, it could be a positive sign.
The last time we have seen the Honda Odyssey was when the Odyssey Concept was unveiled at this year’s Chicago Auto Show. Today, the Odyssey comes back into the spotlight as Honda has officially unveiled the 2011 Odyssey Touring Elite. Featuring a more exclusive appearance and new interior features, the 2011 Odyssey will go on sale this fall, continuing the tradition of the best-selling minivan in the U.S.
The 2011 Honda Odyssey is powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine with three-mode variable cylinder management that has a fuel economy of 19/28 mpg (City/Highway). It gets a lower roofline (-1.6 inches versus 2010 Odyssey EX) and wider track (+1.4 inches) helping to create a sleeker, stronger, and more dynamic presence with improved aerodynamics.
New exterior improvements include HID front headlights, 18" alloy wheels, ventilated front disc brakes, power side mirrors with integrated turn indicators, and a power tailgate. For the interior, Honda has added a new Premium Audio System with 12 Speakers, Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System, high-definition connectivity, and split-screen viewing, but also leather-trimmed seating with heated front seats.
Updated 09/09/2010: Honda today announced priced for the 2011 Odyssey that will debut at dealers on September 30. The Odyssey LX has a starting price of $27,800, while the top version, the Odyssey Touring Elite goes up to $43,250. It is not very often that we get excited about a minivan, however Honda’s new Odyssey Concept from the Chicago Auto Show has a few neat features that not only caught our eye, but made us come back for a second glimpse and look forward to the production version that is scheduled to follow this Fall. That is because the new concept features a sleeker, stronger and more dynamic presence with a low slung roof line and a slightly wider stance powered by a fuel efficient i-VTEC V6 with three mode Variable Cylinder Management that is expected to deliver an estimated 19 MPG in the city and as much as 28 MPG on the highway.
"The Odyssey established its reputation by providing families with what they most want in a minivan - great functionality, an emphasis on safety and good fuel economy," said Vicki Poponi, assistant vice president of American Honda product planning. "Odyssey then further delighted customers with its surprisingly engaging, fun-to-drive and dynamic nature. The next-generation Odyssey promises to take these strengths to a higher level while adding more style and personality."
